MEN’s page Dear MEN

Timo (BEL)

Hessam (BEL)

Ruben (NDL)

Iva (CZE)

Today, after a long journey we have finally achieved an eMANcipation. We are not only independent, we have also established our indisputable supremacy on women. It was a hard

Sasha (UKR)

road to walk but with our MANtra of “we’re MEN, we’re MEN” on our lips and in our hearts,

Cristina (ESP)

HOT LIST

Ciaran (IRE)

our cheap “Beck’s” in one hand and the Hot-list in the other, we have MANaged to reach all the goals we had set out to achieve. Yet… What is this empty feeling we’re left with? Why does this victory taste so bitter? My brethren, in

Lluis (ESP)

our quest for dominance we have forgotten the most important thing to do in a MAN’s life: to spread the love. We have alienated ourselves from that which completes our lives and gives us satisfaction: woman. So today I call upon you my brothers: love your women. In the words of The Godfather of Soul,

Even though there are still many hotties out there to be spotted, this is our last HOT-list. Many beautiful women passed the selection process. However this HOT-list wouldn’t have been complete without the Bulgarian goddess Ivana (delegate, BUL). Sweetie, you rock our world! Your Angelina Jolie lips make us go wawawiwa! So this one is for you! Girls, we loved selecting you, you were all a pleasure to our eye! And remember to… KEEP IT HOT (there’s still one night to go)! Message to the UK delegate: You won a battle but definitely not the war! You’d better sleep with one eye open tonight. POTSDAMN YOU!

James Brown, RIP: ”This is a man’s World, but it would be nothing without a WOMAN’s love.”

Without telling any officials some delegates, obviously obsessed with gambling, organised their own poker tournament. A 5 Euros buy-in, and you were in! 20 people participating meant that the one finishing third got 10 Euros, the one finishing second 20 Euros and the winner got the notable sum of 60 Euros.

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there was a tiny kingdom named Potsdam. One day, dwarfs from all over Europe came together in this beautiful land. They were all very different: grumpy ones, happy ones, sleepy ones, bashful ones and even sneezy ones. In small groups they started to speak to each other. They realised that despite their differences they could get on very well and have a really nice time together. Not only lots of new good friends were made during those days, but also some nice couples. After loads of fun they decided to use those beautiful relationships to find a way to make their world a better place. Many days were spent discussing how their world should be. Slowly, they discovered that the huge problems each of the kingdoms faced were quite different, and so were their ideas on how to solve them. This diversity became the key to finding the most original solutions ever. Eventually the dwarfs had to present their ideas to each other, but because of the differences between dwarfs’ ideals, some of the ideas weren’t approved although they could be good ones. Each of those days was followed by very special nights, with parties and soirées contributing to the already magical atmosphere - all together, in groups, with music, without music, indoors, under the moonlight… When the time to return home approached, they decided they’d meet again; it wasn’t a “goodbye forever”, it was a “see you soon”. Their fairytale continued, each time new dwarfs joined them, and they lived happily ever after…

We love you all.

The tournament started off Tuesday night with the 20 participants divided into four tables. The pots grew bigger and bigger, whilst most faces turned more and more stressed. After two and a half hours of playing, only one person from each table remained. Three Fins and one Flying Dutchman; The final was postponed to the next night due to the late hour.

Revelations So there we were, making ourselves at home in our make-shift journo room. Down below us in the beautiful Berlin Parliament building, the General Assembly raged on. The journos were tired. All except Helga and Mari-Liis, who had slept in, and got locked inside the journo building back on the island. Actually most of us had slept in, and had to run to the bus. But nothing, NOTHING would stop me from getting breakfast. On my way to the bus I had been thrown a plastic bag by the master of the kitchen Andre, and had proceeded to fill it with bread rolls and cheese. Legend of a guy, we’ll always remember you.

Before the final in the EYPoker Tournament, no one thought it would last for so long. How wrong we were! After around 6 hours of intense playing, finally only one out of the original 20 players remained. And the winner was Caspar (NLD), the only non-Finnish in the final. What a victory!

Letter to the organisers Dear Organisers, First of all we would like to thank you for all your help during the session. You were unbelievably willing and helpful. This session would not have been possible without you, even more, thanks to you, we all have been feeling comfortable and got everything we needed. You were not just present, but you were engaged and helpful. Because of your snow white hoodies, we always knew where to find you. Being an organiser is a tough task. Everyone demands something from you, but people keep on forgetting to thank you for what you have done. So this is one big THANK YOU to all the cute and helpful German and international organisers.

The last day. The last issue of Potscard. The atmosphere was friendly, smiling, but tinged with sadness. My laptop was broken, probably from when I’d flung it aside that morning to do the Bear Hunt in the Berlin Parliament building. In the stress of the last days of the session, the traditional journo lunch was forgotten to be arranged, so I’m eating a roll from my plastic bag under the table. Did everyone get something to eat? No, people are hungry. I take what bread I’ve left, break it On behalf of the pressroom up and share it round. Reality hits me like a dead weight. “Lads,” I say, “this is our Last Supper”.

Initiatives like this, organising something unusual for an EYP session, is highly appreciated among all participants. It adds some extra spice to the big dish we call EYP.

The End

Friends will be friends!

Goodbye, farewell, adios!

The European Youth Parliament,

When you’re reading this you’ll most probably be sitting in a train, bus or plane, crying your eyes out. If it can be any comfort to you, it is hard to prevent myself letting teardrops of mixed feelings fall onto my keyboard. It’s over. No matter what you say it’s over, all the good and beautiful things. All that is left are memories… beautiful memories, of joy, friendship and love. What I actually want to say is, I hate to leave you guys, my friends, behind. In my heart, my soul, my tired body I will carry you back home. You have been a part of me…I might not see you again in my entire life, but I will always know that someday, somewhere, somehow, we’ve spent 10 days of our lives together. And believe me, these days have been essential to me. I am not only grateful for every happy memory you left behind, but also for the bad memories we’ve shared. This session showed me what friends are, how diverse people of several cultures came together as one, one group of friends! Home is not the place your parents, siblings or grandparents live, it’s what defines you. I hope you all know that you are part of that home of mine. I don’t know what the future will look like for me, but I am sure, I’ll be able to face it with more wisdom and passion than before. And of course there’s still facebook, bebo and msn.

A. Alarmed by the unbearable smell and the enormous size of the Gherkins. B. Defining the Gherkins as : i. Too big ii. Disgusting iii. Life threatening iv. Green v. Pleasurable C. Aware that the Evil Gherkins multiply at night, allowing them to invade the peninsula. D. Deeply concerned by the nuclear radiation they emit. E. Suspecting that the Gherkins are momentarily expanding their troops and working on weapons of mass destruction. 1.Recommends the implementation of GPS (Gherkin Positioning System) in order to be able to locate the Evil Ones. 2.Urges the EU to combat the Evil Gherkins at its root, by liquidising all Gherkin grandmothers. 3.Encourages the establishing and training of an army of vegetable bombers, as soon as GPS will bear its fruits. 4.Endorses the use of potato salad against Gherkins in every situation, preferably in the cruellest way. 5.Insists that EU citizens save their invoices of Gherkin related expenditures, send them to the government, by whom they will be paid back. 6.Strongly recommends all EU citizens to build bomb shelters in case our suspicions come true, and the world is about to come to an end.

Danny Vannucchi – the singing sensation! No session goes by without a stunning performance from our multitalented president Danny Vannucchi. He is the expert of stage presence! Listening to our lovely president made even our Estonian ice cubes (read: hearts) melt! Go ahead and fill your play list with your new favourite songs from your favourite person: Beauty and the Beast - Turin 2003 If you’re not the one – Dublin 2003 Forever love – Durham 2004 Leaving on a jet plane – Tabor 2004 To be with you – Stavanger 2005 Freedom – Basel 2005 You raise me up – Bari 2005 Always on your side – Veri 2006 Time of our life – Kiev 2006 A sorta fairytale – Potsdam 2007

Thank you for the music...

With never-ending love,

General Assembly know-how

So dear Delegates, find inspiration in Der Kaiser’s work and let him be your role-model for all and forever.

n

Without him we would’ve been lost in the dark, alone and freezing. Der Kaiser guided us through the jungle of producing a newspaper. Additionally, his

calm and sensible appearance made our work a lot easier to accomplish and his personality inspired us to work with love and passion. Sitting in front of his computer, whilst coordinating the streams of incoming articles and making sure that technical difficulties would not become an obstacle for our work, Der Kaiser deserves every expression of appreciation imaginable.

si o

You delegates might not have noticed him. He is the man behind the newspaper scene. Martin Hoffman is a man with passion for hard work and commitment to his tough task as being the Press Team organiser. We, the journalists, would like to name Herr Hoffman Der Kaiser (German for the Emperor).

DER KAISER

A delegate during GA. 31- 03 -

Point of information: Be clear and ask only about the facts. If you`re still confused, ask your fellow delegates or chairperson. In case you need a translation, feel free to ask one of the native speakers. General Debate: A perfect place to express your opinions and views about life! 1. Read the resolution more than once. If needed translate it into your own language, a good idea is to check if there is a solution in operative clauses for each problem mentioned in the introductory clauses. Make notes or underline the parts that you have questions about, what contradict each other or you disagree with. 2. Share knowledge: Your fellow delegates may know a lot more about the other topics than you could assume! Try to discuss the problems with other members of your committee before going to GA to come up with the most intriguing questions for the debate. 3. Pay attention to the opposing committee because some committees tend contradict themselves in defence speeches and while answering questions. It is likely that they will answer to your questions in their speeches. 4. Listen to your fellow delegates. There is no need to ask the same question several times. If the question has already been asked then try not to repeat it . If the opposing committee hasn’t answered it, feel free to bring the topic back to the debate! Some of the fellow delegates from other committees might have enlightening questions about the topic being discussed. They might open your eyes from a different kind of prospective! 5. Debate! Form precise and clear questions and back them up with facts and examples. Arguments shouldn’t be too long! No unnecessary explanations and no questions that last up to 5 minutes. Remember to ask only one question at a time. 6. Stay focused till the end because most of the sum-up speeches are able to change your point of view or assure that you should stick to your opinion! 7. Vote! Voting is the biggest privilege that we, EYPers, have. Use it wisely, and do your utmost to come up with a valid and wise decision for your final vote. Abstaining because you have not been listening, is not a valid excuse!

We just don’t want to leave Unpredicted Obstacles

Over the last 9 days the Press Team has become a close-knit family. Its home has been located in the building no.5 in the Inselparadies Petzow. Yes, we are talking about the pressroom. And yes we are talking about 16 people that came really close to each other and lived the journo experience to its maximum extent. Being a journo was the best possible thing that could have happened to us! But our work wouldn’t have been so successful without our home, the pressroom. Well, you might now want to know how the pressroom was really like. In short, it had two sides. The first one was characterised by a complete mess, which resulted in a smelly room. Furthermore the floor was covered by a film of gherkin liquid, which wasn’t cleaned after our little gherkin fight. The second one was characterised by the beautiful journos who illuminated the pressroom with a glimmer of sensation. We believe that the last issue had to be used to appreciate our accommodation. In addition, on behalf of the whole journo-team we would again like to thank the organisers for providing us with this special facility. And last but not least we would like to thank the pressroom for supporting us in every way and being so good to us. We will never forget you!

We are so used to starting the conversation in a friendly way, but sometimes, as in the case with the committee on human rights, the beginning could be “unfriendly”. The committee on economic and monetary affairs proposed an unfriendly amendment to the DROI resolution. That is how the most spectacular debate of the GA started. Amendment passed, but the human rights committee is brilliant in overcoming unexpected obstacles. Ben (GBR) surprised everyone with a passionate and persuasive defence speech full of examples, coherently covering each clause. The attack speech asked for more concrete proposals and underlined the possible devastating effect of the Truth Commissions, proposed by the resolution. Tense debate followed, bringing out the most controversial issues, but how pleasant it was for the DROI committee to hear points like this, “ I applaud this resolution and fully support it”! Daniel (IRE) and Ulla (AUT) concluded the discussion, appealing to the logical and the emotional sense of the audience. 144 votes in favour was the long-waited result of many hours of committee work. I am so proud of all of you, guys!!!

Einstein used to live near Petzow.

Dear Chair When I arrived on this island of craziness, I huddled around in a circle with my delegation, not knowing what to expect from this thing called EYP. I felt out of place, curious but also kind of scared. Before I knew it I was thrown into the deep end with 13 other people, who would be my companions on this journey. This group of people, who at first seemed like strangers, has ended up like a second family to me, and you are the person I have to thank for that. We started off with teambuilding. At first, I felt a bit silly during some of the games, and the big fat pony was beginning to get on my nerves. But as the day progressed I started getting totally involved with the activities, each being more fun than the last. I caught myself whistling the frog song in the shower, and I kept getting this strange urge to shake my booty in public. After the two days, I was left with memories I will never forget. Another thing I will definitely never forget was the committee work. You used a gentle touch to guide the heated discussions in the right direction, and prevented us from wandering astray. You were always there in the background and thinking back now, I realise how important your role was. Charming chair, the fantastic time I had here at my first international session was all down to your hard work, fun spirit and exaggerated sexiness. Thank you for making it special! XOXOXOX Your delegate

10

Unforgetable delegates Dear delegates, you are by far the most important part of this session. You are the face of it, you’re witty, pretty and the most mentally stable participants of this event. Some of you have stood out in a peculiar way. Here is a list of things we will never forget: The craziest haircut: Lluis, a.k.a. Funi, (ESP) The shortest skirt: Nina (UKR) The “Honey tell me that you love me” champion: Laura (IRE) The Fergie look-a-like: Aleksandor (SER) The macho guy: Caspar (NLD) The most unique person: Christopher (AUT) The most inspiring speaker: Ben (GBR) The highest Happy Jump: Sebastian (SWE) The most talented singer: Maarja (EST) Obviously we weren’t able to include everyone here, however we think that the group of people mentioned above sort of represent the entire crew of delegates on the pirate ship of Potsdam 2007.
