CALL FOR APPLICATIONS CHAIRS, EDITORS, VICE-PRESIDENTS 74th International Session, Tbilisi 2013 The 74th International Session of the EYP will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia from October 4th to 13th, 2013, under the motto “Europe on its frontiers - Deepening cooperation”.
We are now looking for 12 Chairpersons, 1 or 2 Editors and 3 Vice-presidents. Chairpersons bear significant responsibilities and play a crucial role in the success of the event. We would thus be delighted if you were interested in contributing to making Tbilisi 2013 an unforgettable event for the session’s participants and the entire EYP community. More information about the IS in Tbilisi can be found on the session’s Facebook page. All members of the Chairs’ Team are required to arrive in Tbilisi one or two days prior to the start of the session in order to attend the Chairs’ training. Departures are on Sunday October 13th. Additionally, please note that in preparation for the session Chairpersons are required to attend the Chairs’ Academic Training (CAT), which will take place from September 6th to 8th, 2013 in Berlin. Chairs need to be at the CAT venue by 12 am on Friday. Attendance of the CAT is an integral part of a chair’s responsibilities and expenses for the meeting will be covered by EYP-SF. According to policy 17.1.19, at least two Vice-Presidents should be members of the Pool of Trainers as defined by the Governing Body. Should no such applications be submitted, the panel can disregard the criteria.
Criteria According to EYP policies, the Selection Panel is looking for individuals with the following qualities: - - - - - - - -
good chairing skills, relevant EYP experience, strong motivation and commitment to EYP’s objectives, ability to work as a member of a team and lead a group, good organisational skills, proven interest in European Affairs, excellent language skills, cultural sensitivity.

of a pressroom, and motivation and commitment to further the session newspaper’s objectives. It is also desirable that the editors possess suitable technical skills and have previous pressroom experience. The overall team will also present a cohesive and suitable balance of nationality, gender and levels of experience. Applicants should be aware that failure to be selected is no reflection on their talent or ability to be part of an IS chairs’ team. The selection panel will consider first the individuals who have applied for the position and thereby thoroughly go over all the applications, following the guidelines given by the GB. The Panel will consist of the Session President (Jari Marjelund), Past Session President (Kerstin Mathias) and a Member of the Governing Body (Robert Torvelainen). A recommendation to cover the role of a Chairperson or Vice-President is a prerequisite to be considered for the selection of the respective posts. In order to be selected as Editor, please note that the candidate must at least have a chairperson recommendation. Editor recommendations are not considered a prerequisite; however candidates with press team experience will be prioritised in the selection. In case you are unsure if you are eligible to apply, you can check your recommendations and individual feedback forms with your previous Chair(s)/ President(s) or by contacting the Human Resources Officer for the International EYP at hr@eyp.org. The selection will only begin once the application deadline is over.
How to Apply? If you are available and interested in attending, you should follow these steps to apply: 1. Log on to the EYP Alumni Portal at http://alumni.eyp.org (if you do not have access or encounter any other problems, please get in touch with support@eyp.org); 2. Update your profile on the Portal; 3. Sign up for the 74th International Session as either Chair, Vice-President or Editor and fill in the “additional fields” in the application form. If you would like to apply for multiple positions please send one of your applications to hr@eyp.org. 4. Once you have submitted your application via the platform, please send your updated session history using the attached template to hr@eyp.org. Please note that this is a prerequisite for your application to be considered. 5. The deadline for submitting your application via the platform and sending in your complete session history is Monday, August 5th at 12.00 CET. Application questions Please note that the panel will be looking for quality rather than quantity, which is why we kindly ask all applicants to ensure that none of their answers to any of the questions below exceeds 500 words. This word limit does not apply to the question for Editors only. All applicants: 1. Please identify and discuss your key strengths and weaknesses as Chair, Vice-president or Editor and how you intend to work on the latter at Tbilisi 2013. 2. In light of the recently published mission statement of the European Youth Parliament, please share your personal EYP mission statement with its rationale and briefly discuss how it has shaped your plans for Tbilisi 2013. Applicants to Chair (excluding applicants to vice-preside): 1. The theme of Tbilisi 2013 is ”Europe on its frontiers – Deepening cooperation”. Please suggest a committee topic relevant to the theme and briefly explain why it would make a good EYP topic. Applicants to Vice-preside: 1. In your view, what does leadership entail in the context of an EYP session? As Vice-president, how do you intend to assist the President in providing Tbilisi 2013 with sufficient leadership? Applicants to Edit: 1. Please explain how a media team led by you would contribute to the academic and social experience of the participants of Tbilisi 2013 by outlining your vision and concrete ideas for the media team and its output.
