CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Session President Dublin Belfast 2016 - 81st International Session of the European Youth Parliament

The International Session in Dublin Belfast The 81st International Session of the EYP will be held in Dublin, Ireland and Belfast, the United Kingdom between 4th and 13th March 2016, under the session theme ‘Crossing Borders, Transcending Conflict ’. The Session President will be required to arrive a few days in advance and work on many aspects of the session, from teambuilding to topics, to be involved in the selection process of the session’s chairs’ team and provide leadership for the whole session and its participants. The Session President will also be involved in the development and preparation of the Chairs’ Academic Training together with the International Office. Participating in the training is compulsory. The CAT will take place in Dublin, either between 10th and 13th or 18th and 20th December. The date will be decided upon together with the selected president. For more informaton on the session, please, check the official website and the Facebook page.

Message from the Binational Organising Committee The 81st International Session, will be the first of its kind; a session which crosses borders, and has the opportunity to create a real difference in the European Youth Parliament, local communities and international commemorations. Dublin Belfast will coincide with the centenary of the 1916 Rebellion, where the Irish began to fight for independance. 100 years later, sectarianism in border counties and indeed in the capital cities is still very evident. With such an opportunity we are now looking for an individual that not only understands the importance of the theme of the session, but the culture and history behind it. The president for Dublin Belfast 2016 should have a keen interest in ensuring that the theme is evident in all elements of the programme and should aim to intertwine the academics and theme where possible. Ideally our president will have an interest in discovering the history of the conflict between the UK and Ireland and applying the current situation in other countries to topics and academic preparation. As Dublin Belfast 2016 hopes to push boundaries and promote actual change, we hope that our president will have the drive to try something new and the openness to adapt and be creative with the programme of the session. Diligence and reliability are the main attributes that we seek in the newest member of the team and a strong track record in evaluation and post session follow up is desirable as we hope to ensure that we validly reflect on the session and try to ensure it creates lasting effects. We feel like Dublin Belfast 2016 is an important session, one capable to create concrete change, and we want our president to respect, and embrace this. We hope for a president that is focused on motivating the delegates to take part.

The ideal president shares our excitement for the concept of the session and has a strong inclination for the theme. The president will have a lot of scope to develop their own vision and implement what they need in order to create the ideal event. This individual would be willing to liaise and expand on the academic concept already in the makings by the organising team and would take ownership for their own vision while ensuring that the overall goals of the event are achieved.

Selection criteria Following a decision by the Board of National Committees and the Governing Body, Dublin Belfast 2016 will be the first International Session of the EYP at which a recommendation is not a pre-requisite for selection to any role, from President to Chairs and Members of the Media Team. However, to be eligible for selection, all applicants need to have at least one official EYP evaluation, given at an International Session or at a national or regional event by a former International Session Chair. (In the reformed system, all Team Leaders and Chairs at all events will have the right to submit evaluations. However, the reformed system in its entirety will only take effect on 1 January 2016. In practice, all evaluations to be used at the officials’ selection for Dublin Belfast 2016 have been submitted under the current system and rules.) All other selection criteria will also remain valid. The BNC and the GB hope many alumni will now use this opportunity to apply to an International Session.
