CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Media Team Members Tampere 2015 - 79th International Session of the European Youth Parliament

The International Session in Tampere The 79th International Session of the EYP will be held in Tampere, Finland between 24th and 2nd August, 2015, under the theme ‘Ideas change minds. People the world’. The event will be presided by Joanna Dreger (PL). The Media team will be lead by Jan Bubienczyk (FI) and Boaz Manger (NL). You are invited to read about their vision below. More information on the session can be found on the event’s official website and Facebook page.

We are now looking for 11 members of the Media team. All members of the Media team are required to arrive in Tampere two or three days prior to the start of the session in order to attend the pre-session training. Departures are on Sunday, 2nd August. N.B. Please note that the event has not yet been granted the green light by the Governing Body. This also means that we cannot confirm yet that there will be a full team of officials at this International Session.

Vision of the Media Team Media teams often exist on the periphery of a session; observing rather than taking part. Their fundamental product, the newspaper, is one that has limited value during the session and one that takes on the role of an artfully crafted memento after the session. Often the most valuable contributions of a media team to the atmosphere and memory of a session are those that are taken for granted by the media team. In Tampere, we seek to reverse this relationship. We intend for our team members to be at the heart of the session, not only by their presence, but through all of the products of the media team. We will do so by placing an interactive live broadcast at the heart of our media team, replacing the newspaper. By recording and broadcasting from the same location as the delegates will be in, we seek to make the experience of the delegates the centre of our broadcast. Through interviews with delegates and new possibilities for digital participation in combination with our new format we hope to be a media team embedded into the session. While the broadcast will be at the centre of the media team, it will not be all that the media team does. Like the newspaper before, it will take up the majority of our time, but still leave enough room for other initiatives to sprout up.

We want to think about these initiatives with the rest of the team and include them in the general framework of our team and the broader session. We will support the creativity of our team in coming up with these ideas to further enhance the experience of the delegates. Tampere 2015 will innovate when it comes to the way delegates will approach their topics. By changing the actor implied in the topics, Tampere will clear the way for delegates to get personally involved with the solutions to the topics they address. These so-called projects are at the heart of the session’s theme ‘Ideas change minds. People the world’. As the media team, we see one of our primary responsibilities in facilitating this exchange of ideas, capturing the journey of ideas and encouraging the development of concrete plans. We believe that the best teams are happy teams. Concretely, this means that we will not push you to not sleep for 5 days, nor will we place unreasonable demands on you. We want Tampere to be a place where you get to develop as a person and we will provide you with the room and the tools to do so. Team 10+1 We are looking for people who do not rely solely on their experience within the EYP to qualify for this role. Concretely this means that we expect successful applicants to have gained experience outside the EYP and to not regard Tampere as merely a stepping stone to the next EYP position. Examples of relevant experiences include, but are not limited to: real life experience in project-based work in the television, radio and film industry or compensate for this with work that requires intricate planning and lateral thinking capabilities. Essentially, we are looking for 10 individuals with varied specialised skillsets valuable to a media production team, but also with strong leadership and planning experiences. Moreover, we are looking for 1 additional member to work with the leadership in order to ensure success with the advanced technologies required to fulfill this project. We plan for a high degree of freedom for the members of our media team, and so traditional role definitions are a bit more difficult to come up with. Broadly speaking, we are looking for the roles indicated below. However, these roles should be seen as an indication, we expect all members of the team to contribute equally to the product of the media team, both before and during the session. In addition, we fully expect and are willing to facilitate members of the team taking on different roles at different parts of the session. • • • •

4 people who could anchor / interview / prepare the content for the broadcast 3 people to handle the technical aspects, the editing decisions, sound mixing and visual style of the broadcast 2 people who are excellent photographers and are able to contribute to the visual aspects of the media team 1 person to handle the social media and online presence of the media team.

A third member of the editorial team Finally, we are looking for a third member of our editorial team. We are not looking for a conventional editorial assistant, but rather are looking to find a full member of the editorial team, a third editor. As this person will become a full member of the editorial team, this position comes with more responsibility than the other positions in the team, and will require more time in the preparation phase. Concretely, we expect successful applicants to have 1) extensive experience as a chairperson, 2) significant technical abilities related to the production of videos 3) to be aware of the (personal) needs of the people in the media team.
