Message from the NOC Tampere 2015 aims to showcase the best that the Finnish summer has to offer. During the summer we Finns relax and recharge. It is also the time for new ideas and creativity. Both aspects are included in the vision of the National Organising Committee for the session. The City of Tampere provides the perfect setting for this vision with its beautiful lake scenery and the Tammerkoski channel of rapids that cuts through the city centre, not forgetting the history of the city full of innovation. The first electric lights in the whole Nordics were installed at the Finlayson factory in Tampere in 1882. To emphasise the session theme ‘Ideas change minds. People the world’ a night reserved for the ideas and projects of the participants will be organised during the 10 days of the session. We believe that all EYPers have interesting ideas and a lot to give to their local communities, their country and Europe - even the whole world. An International Session should have an impact that goes beyond the personal development and networking of the participants.

Another focus of Tampere 2015 is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Finland’s Membership of the European Union. In the run up to the session we are collecting the experiences of Finnish youth about their relation to Europe, the EU and how they see Finland’s position in Europe. We are proud to have three former Prime Ministers and two former Commissioners on our Honorary Board, all of whom have directly shaped our country’s development and integration into Europe. We expect that the Session President can support and develop further our vision of a relaxed summer IS focused on ideas. This means not only high academic quality but also the drive to encourage and facilitate the ideas and projects of all participants. Nordic values of equality and openness are also important: every participant of the session is equally important.
