Euro African Youth Parliament

The First Euro African Youth Parliament (EAYP) is coming to Berlin! The First Euro African Youth Parliament (EAYP) will take place in Berlin between March 27th and April 4th. At the first conference of its kind, over 60 alumni of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) will come together in Berlin and meet 60 participants from Africa for a very extraordinary EYP Session. The EAYP will allow both delegates and officials to work in truly transcontinental teams. Smaller eight-person committees will consist of an equal number of delegates from both Europe and Africa. These committees will enable the frank and inspiring exchange of ideas and visions. Furthermore, a Euro-African tandem of chairpersons will moderate every committee. In the spirit of the event, all teams, including the Session board, will include participants from both continents. The pan-continental organising team is led by Jonathan Engel (DE) and Maximilian Kiehn (DE).

What will the Session look like? More than 100 young people from Africa and Europe will gather in Berlin (Germany) to discuss political topics of global relevance as well as the future of Euro-African relations. After an extensive training for officials, the session will gather eight committees for an academically challenging and truly intercultural event. The topics and the theme of the event will be developed by the board of the Session, supported by both the International Office of the EYP and the Youthbridge Foundation. The event will use EYP’s session format of Teambuilding, Committee Work and General Assembly, adapting the programme elements to the special nature of the event.

Why the Euro-African Youth Parliament? In April 2013, staff members of the Youthbridge Foundation visited the 72nd International Session of the EYP in Munich. Later on, in August 2013, a delegation of ten EYP Alumni visited Ghana to participate in YBF’s 5th African Youth and Governance Conference. The Euro-African Youth Parliament in Berlin is the next step in this partnership. All our common activities are made possible by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany in the programme “Commitment for Africa.”
