istory

St Albans is a town within the city of Hertfordshire, St Albans is rapidly turning into a Modern city full of entertainment and excitement within the uses of shopping Centres, restaurants and growth of population. The name of the town has come from a British saint in the 4th century. One of the most popular and building that makes a statement within the city is the St Albans town hall which has a purpose of gathering the public together such as Being used for weddings, exhibitions and various different events. The town hall was made in 1831 and is ongoing till today. Recently the town hall is being proposed into a museum and gallery for the public, the gallery will always be a part of the history of St Albans with the iconic Faรงade, in my design I wanted to create something embracing the history of St Albans by the curved structure which is similar to the curves of the faรงade of the building and the authentic colours which represents the ambiance of the city St Albans.

ONCEPT

The main concept of the project is reflecting to the history of the museum and curved edges of the faรงade; the bench is designed with careful consideration. The iconic pieces such as the curved legs and circular arm rest reflects to the history, the bold and edgy structure with the suede cushion gives a modest appearance to the design which will be a spectacular piece sitting in the gallery for the public.

RIEF

Here are the final product design Renders that relatively relates to the contemporary and modest design aesthetics. The shape and colour refers to the present modern day style in combination with a classical circular structure that represents the history of the Saint Albans museum and the county itself. The material of the wood is also very post modern because it has an edgy and strong visual but also is painted and glossed to represent a contemporary design. There is a boundary between the two combined structures in the design which is a rectangular shaped seat to provide a edgy and modest visual along with a curved and circular bench leg, The Technique that has been used is complimenting each others strengths and weaknesses to create a post modern structure. The fabric that has been decided to use on the seat of the bench is called “lightweight Fuax Suede which is very easy to clean as there will be many visitors resting on them, This bench is suitable for all age groups as the edges are soft incase any children accidentally fall off or walk into it. Also considering elderly people that are very sensitive it is designed at perfect height so visitors can easily sit without bending too much that would cause pain for them with also a complimenting arm seat to provide some support to sit down and get up. The Bench is very flexible, easy to move around and visually creative that compliments the gallery. The height, shape and weight is thoughtfully made in coordination to the clients request with also a slot to keep in some leaflets for the visitors. In conclution the project is done to give the appearence of Smart, flexible and easy working.

EVELOPMENT

The photographs above are sketches using Water colour and other markers representing the start of the product design process. These are ideas using own initiatives to create a flexible and aesthetic project. The pieces make an aesthetic approach to the final design within the numerous amount of techniques and styles. Also by adding colour to the sketches it has automatically shown some details of what materials that could be appropriate to use in reality. In the design process there is a strong bond between reality and art which is the the final design is very flexable and visually interesting.

The photographs above are renders that has been created using Sketch up to create a 3D model that are designed to strengthen the ideas of the final flexible modest design. The strongest idea that has been put together is the curved legs of the bench to create an visually aesthetic design, What has been the main purpose of this project was making sure the final design is much more flexible and matching the clients needs within a bench. The main idea that has been used in the final project was the idea of putting the wood and the suede together.
