Beryl Allen: Getting back on her feet with Diamond Max
B
eryl Allen has been driving since 1968 and since then, she has never even had a scratch. However, her perfect record was besmirched on February 12 of this year when her car was blind-sided by another driver who broke a red light. Beryl is understandably upset; not only was she not at fault in this accident but she is now without a car, which renders her dependent on others to take her around and she is also still undergoing physiotherapy for the injuries she suffered. Luckily, Beryl is still active and vibrant and, thanks to Diamond Max, she was swiftly taken care of in her hour of need. BCIC’s accident response service, ASSIST, responded to the call. “They sent someone to get my car and a Jamaica Automobile
Association representative came with me to the police station. They got the forms and took care of everything in a couple of days,” she recalled. Beryl’s car was written off because due to the accident, its value was less than the cost to replace it, she explained. Although she is inconvenienced by the lack of a vehicle, Beryl is pleased that she wasn’t put through a stressful, prolonged claims process, “I got the claim settled within two weeks,” she said. Additionally, the Loss of Use (LOU) benefit she received entitled her to $1,500 per day to facilitate alternative transportation arrangements.

Technically, Beryl has been a lifelong BCIC customer as her father’s household was insured by the company all through her childhood. When she was ready to leave out on her own, he insisted she stick with the company and Beryl is glad she listened as some of her belongings were destroyed during Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. That claim was also speedily settled. However, when it came to car insurance, Beryl was already with another provider she trusted and said it didn’t even dawn on her that BCIC offered auto insurance until last November, when a friend introduced her to Diamond Max. Beryl’s previous insurer hiked its prices and removed some of the benefits she was familiar with, so she had no trouble making the switch. “I didn’t even have any time to enjoy it before I had the accident. The insurance policy was finalised on January 17 and I had the accident on February 12,” she lamented. “I’m just looking forward to getting back a car. I don’t really go anywhere right now unless my friends can come to pick me up.” Fortunately Beryl switched when she did and BCIC came through for her once more.
