Eyeing better SECURITY in 2014
Bushes and trees make too good of a hiding place for burglars, so trim regularly.
Leaving that extra key under the mat or in the potted plant is like handing your key to an intruder.
We can’t always prevent grand theft auto but a car tracker effortlessly locates your vehicle.
A panic button may just save your life in the event you are unable to reach a phone to call for help.
HawkGuard 24
Innovative APPS harnessing the power of mobile
Turn your phone into a personal security guard with HawkGuard 24. The newest app by Hawkeye is an operator-controlled app that gives users instant access to mobile-based personal security. It transform’s the standard smartphone into an advanced personal alarm system. HawkGuard 24 offers tracking abilities, alarm activation, meeting alarms, and video and audio capabilities, all of which are designed to send an alert Hawkeye’s 24 Hour Monitoring Center representatives and selected emergency contacts in order to minimize criminal casualties and incidents. Hawkeye’s Armed response team will be dispatched to assist if needed. The app launches in May 2014. • Video Capture: When the App is activated, a 10 second video clip from the camera of your phone will be sent to Hawkeye’s 24 hour monitoring center which allows Hawkeye to see and hear what is happening around you and determine the nature of the threat. Your emergency contacts will also be alerted and would receive this video clip as well. Hawkeye will then dispatch its Armed Response Team if assistance is needed. • • Email Notifications: Send email notifications when your alarm is activated or deactivated. These notifications provide your location on a map so Hawkeye and the Emergency contacts can see where you are.
• Motion-Sensored Alert Feature: Shake or swipe your phone when in or entering a threatening situation to send an alert to the Monitoring Center and to your emergency contacts. This feature will only work if the app has been launched and is in use. It makes the HawkGuard 24 very useful for lifestyle and professional situations. • • Supported on Several Devices: The HawkGuard 24 is supported on multiple devices, namely the iPhone, Blackberry Z10 and Android-supported devices
From Analog to IP:
Networked Surveillance
The video surveillance space is shifting from the use of analog to Internet Protocol (IP) based cameras. The IP based system combines the camera technology with some built in PC functionalities making it possible to integrate your security cameras into your existing network and treat them as you would any other networked device. The industry is trending away from analog CCTV and moving toward IP systems. This brings some unique advantages to home and business users. Enhanced Video Quality Up to 10 times the resolution of Analog Cameras Use of Current IP Structure Leverage your existing IP infrastructure and save money. Looking like regular ordinary webcams, the most updated IP-based cameras feature wireless operation that limits wiring and installation time. Cost Saving Advantage Scale your security along with your network.

A Paradigm Shift in Alarm Technology A video verified alarm system is simply better; it allows for quicker response times and confirmation of the nature of a crime before a response team is dispatched. Hawkeye has added the Videofied system to its line of video surveillance technologies. This wireless motion detection system also captures color video, delivers it to the users cellphone and to the alarm receiving center immediately.
Colour Video Verification Wireless integration with existing alarm systems Automatic notification to cell phone and dispatch centers
The Videofied system is comprised of an infrared motion sensor, a digital video camera and infrared illuminators for night illumination. If the system is armed and something crosses the path of the motion sensor, the camera will capture and transmit a 10 second video of the area to the Hawkeye’s Monitoring Center and the users cellphone. This footage facilitates an efficient analysis of the intrusion and the degree of response necessary.

SECURING OUR FUTURE
Commentary by Dr. Donovan Thomas
When threats to our personal and national security are identified, the next logical step is to identify ways of handling these threats. With the release of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s study on Education and Crime, concerns were raised that this threat seems to be some of our schools, which have been described as ‘breeding grounds for criminals’. Dr. Donovan Thomas, founder of Choose Life International, disagrees with this assessment however. For him it remains a national challenge for us to work with schools and students to alleviate the despair, apathy and disillusionment they are experiencing. He believes that focusing on these challenges is a great way to secure our future Training parents in the art of parenting. The unpreparedness of many parents in nurturing and caring for children allow many of the inner struggles these children face to go unaddressed. Emotional Assessment. At a particular stage in their educational development children should receive emotional assessment to help predict their vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities can then be handled before they escalate into more far reaching issues over violence and resentment. Healing among teachers. Some teachers aren’t emotionally prepared to handle the crises that they will come across in the classroom and are ill-equipped to offer sound counsel and help in nurturing the children- efforts must be made to remedy this. Helping our youth to live happier lives is the ultimate way to ensure they don’t harm themselves or others. Through the Choose Life International Ministry services are offered to businesses, schools and churches in the areas of counselling and emotional assessment.
