PanCaribbean Montego Bay

New location, same goals The team at PanCaribbean Montego Bay has been busy as bees lately, having recently completed a change of location to the Fairview Shopping Centre. While there were plenty of changes being made behind the scenes, the team still ensured that their customers were well taken care of. Lloyd Duhaney Branch Manager, PanCaribbeanBank Montego Bay

It is this focus on customer satisfaction, coupled with the “exuberance and effervescence” of former Branch Manager, Ornell Bedasse, that propelled the team to the Branch of the Year award at 2011 PanCaribbean Star Awards. As Stephanie Vassell, PanCaribbean Financial Services (PCFS) Sales and Branch Network Manager, attests, he kept the team energised and focused on their goals, so much so that they exceeded most of the targets set for 2011. “The Montego Bay team members are self-motivated and responsible individuals and this is why they achieved their goals. Additionally, they are a team of professionals who work closely together and plan their marketing strategies with the assistance of the PCFS Montego Bay team weekly. [They also] track their accomplishment weekly in order to focus on the areas that need attention. This is why I think they were successful in 2011,” explained new PanCaribbeanBank Montego Bay Branch Manager, Lloyd Duhaney, who joined the team this April. Duhaney expects their services to improve considerably with this new location. “The new location has better parking for our customers, a more comfortable atmosphere inside the bank to conduct business, the new products added such as the drive through teller, ATM and night deposit… which could not have happened at our previous location because of lack of space,” said Duhaney. Another great feature of the new location is that Fairview Shopping Centre is the new commercial centre of Montego Bay, housing many different places of business, including Courts, PricewaterhouseCoopers Jamaica, Hi-Lo Supermarket, Fontana Pharmacy, KPMG Accounting, Billy Craig Insurance Brokers and more. This also provides the team with ample opportunity to do aggressive sales pitching to its neighbours at the centre. Vassell, who has been with PanCaribbean for eight years said, “I have learnt so much and grown so much here at PanCaribbean. The two things I have always admired about this great company are the team spirit and camaraderie. I just don’t see that anywhere else.”

Duhaney is also of the same opinion. “My experience at PCB so far is one that I am pleased about, having got the opportunity to apply some of my banking experience that I have accomplished and achieved over the years from other financial institutions and my tertiary education. PanCaribbean is an institution equipped with professional people with one common goal in mind, which is to see PanCaribbean grow from strength to strength.”

Product focus

Customer satisfaction is

the heart of New Product Development There is no such thing as a ‘typical day’ for Saleema Barclay, Product Development Manager at PanCaribbean Financial Services. While most days “start off with meetings and end with meetings”, Barclay’s days are spent doing any number of activities that will help her team to come up with the innovative and useful products and services PanCaribbean has become known for. And she actually likes the unpredictability.

The work is certainly challenging, but the family-like environment at PanCaribbean makes it a little easier. “There is a good balance between working hard and enjoying the benefits of social activities set out for employees, but there is one thing I must confess: as a real ‘foodie’, the best part of being at PanCaribbean is the unusual and ingenious daily snacks they provide for team members. It’s absolutely brilliant!” Barclay laughed.

“If I’m not doing revenue analysis or reviewing and monitoring phases of product development, I’m checking out competitor websites to look for positioning and differentiation. Another day, I might be involved in planning the end of life for a product or service or, my favourite, convincing senior managers that a new product should be approved and is worth the resources,” Barclay said.

One thing that sets PanCaribbean apart is the team’s enthusiasm for the products they offer, which includes a new deposit product called PriorityMe, geared towards salaried individuals, businessmen and the self-employed. There is also a new Chequing product for the SME market called BusinessMax and a new auto loan product that is geared towards the “sleek, sophisticated professional”.

In developing new products, a number of factors are considered to ensure that the end result is beneficial to both PanCaribbean and its customers. Some of these factors include ensuring that the product is financially viable and will continuously generate revenue, as well as making sure it is developed based on the highest expected net benefit to the customer.

Barclay has a number of exciting plans in store for PanCaribbean customers, including mobile banking services and more creative payment solutions that allows person-to-person transfers and a new spin on certificates of deposit.

To ensure this, Barclay carefully directs the product development process, including working on design, execution and operational sequencing of products from concept to customer, meeting all ‘go-to-market’ milestones while ensuring profitability, customer service, speed to market, and quality and compliance requirements.

PanCaribbean’s excellence in innovation and customer-centric products help them stand out from their competitors and Barclay is happy to help keep that trend going. “It feels absolutely fantastic when a customer makes a decision to purchase a product that you have been involved in,” she said.

Community focus PanCaribbean is well known for our financial products and outstanding customer service, but we also take pride in giving back to Jamaica through various initiatives. Sports play a vital role in our society and has been proven to aid in the development of necessary life skills amongst children. PanCaribbean is proud to support Jamaica’s young athletes, as they grow into the stars of tomorrow.

PanCaribbeanBank All Jamaica Junior Tennis Championships On July 8, the day Roger Federer won his seventh Wimbledon title, a new crop of players, representing the best Jamaica has to offer in the sport, were crowned winners in the 2012 PanCaribbeanBank All Jamaica Junior Tennis Championships. The event was held from July 4 -8 at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre in Kingston. Boys Under 18 Singles champion Andrew Bicknell in action

PanCaribbeanBank has been the headline sponsor of the championships since 2005, providing $1.6 million for this year’s event and approximately $4 million to other Tennis Jamaica tournaments across the island. “This year, we continued our support to raise the awareness of tennis as it is not as popular a sport in Jamaica as some of the other ones. We want to help create another avenue for youngsters to have an opportunity to not only grow as professionals, but to grow personally,” explained PCB’s Managing Director, Philip Armstrong.
