Retreat to Kanopi House Located in Portland is a private six-acre retreat called Kanopi House. Designed by native Jamaicans, the furnishings, decor, artwork are, of course, handcrafted and sourced locally. Cushioned, carpeted and decorated with greenery, the Kanopi House’s treehouses are built deep in the rainforest. Upper Deck, Spanish Elm, Almond Tree and Sweet Wood are the treehouse suites you can choose from to fit your preference. On your getaway, you can spend your days lounging by the lagoon, snorkelling, kayaking, swimming out to Monkey Island or simplfying relaxing to the sounds of the waves and the rainforest, all while forgetting your troubles. If you want to move away from the hustle and bustle of town, and spend some time with your partner or friendly locals, the Kanopi House is the perfect getaway.
THINGS TO DO HELICOPTER TRANSFERS AND TOURS
With a helipad just five minutes away, guests can experience Portland from a different angle with day trips and scenic tours.
SURFING
Not many people would think of Portland as a surfer’s paradise, but you can ‘hang ten’ with the best of them at Long Bay, which is 45 minutes away.
MOUNTAIN BIKE TOURS
Explore the indigenous flora and fauna in the Blue Mountains with a guided tour that also takes you past sweeping coffee plantations and majestic waterfalls.

Mobay Chocolate Company Imagine savouring a delectable morsel of chocolaty goodness. As you sink your teeth in, you are hit with the spicy kick of a‌ scotch bonnet pepper? Mobay Chocolate Company (from the second city, naturally), is the creator of this sweet and spicy delight. The company infuses popular Jamaican flavours such as jerk and scotch bonnet pepper with chocolate to create a unique blend. I sampled the scotch bonnet and lime, jerk praline and rum cream rock flavours. Other interesting flavours were Bailey’s, bun and cheese and cognac. For those on the less adventurous side, they also provide plain milk, dark and white chocolates. Mobay Chocolate Company is for any foodie who is up for a taste of adventure. Check them out!

Brand Manager, Heineken

#mywknd
TOP: Hanging with college friends (Damond Dampier, Adam Dansky and Sarah Dampier) in NYC… our 10 year reunion. BOTTOM: Nasha and William Richards, one of the judges for the Heineken Inspire competition, at the launch of the programme.
tell us about yourself In very few words: I am responsible for all things Heineken in Jamaica. I live my brand, love my family and friends and I’m grateful every day to see a new day. you seem very passionate about your job, what has been your best experience there? My very first Heineken programme called Heineken Inspire. We created something out of nothing and it was a beautiful experience. All the stakeholders involved became a family. I love when different personalities gel, even with your differences, to achieve the same goal. what is your favourite thing to do on the weekend? Sleeping, spinning, yoga and spa treatments – in essence: RELAXING!
DRINK OF
CHOICE: Tanqueray Tonic with a twist
what is your favourite weekend drink? Other than an extra cold Heineken, my favourite drink is a Tanqueray Tonic with a twist. what are some of your hobbies? I love TV. Is that a hobby? True Blood, Law and Order, Weeds, all the Real Housewives… Who am I kidding? ALL trashy reality TV Shows aka Basketball Wives and Love & Hip Hop. how do you normally spend your weekend? Working… if you want to call it that. For the most part, I attend a lot of events, but on my very few down time moments, I like hanging with friends and family on a beach, at my favourite bar or kicking back at home.
LEFT: Imru James, Heineken Assistant Brand Manager (ABM), Nasha and Kamal Powell, Red Stripe ABM, at Heineken A List. MIDDLE: Nasha and her bestie, Sadi, at a Maiden Cay Beach party. RIGHT: Me and DJ Diplo at the last Heineken Igloo at Sugarman’s Beach. BOTTOM: Nasha with Rick Ross and Sharon Burke of Solid Agency.

When the weekend rolls around, our discipline and resolve tend to become weak. It is no wonder, therefore, that weekends are the number one cause of sabotage for weight watchers. There is only one way to get it under control: change the face of your weekend. Flipping the switch can be as easy as putting on your running shoes.
split lunges make fabulous legs Lunge forward and lower yourself by bending your back knee downwards. Hold for two counts, then step back with feet together. Switch legs and repeat this 30 times on each leg. Repeat the above move, but instead of stepping back, plyometric jump and switch the leg, landing in a soft lunge. Repeat 20 times on each leg. Double pulse each lunge as you plyometric jump lunge, alternating legs. Repeat 20 times.
kickbacks for tight buns On your hands and knees, keeping the right leg bent and foot flexed, raise the leg behind you, positioning the sole of the foot towards the roof and then lower it back to the other knee. Repeat 25 times. Then keep that leg up in line with your tailbone and pulse the foot up to the roof. Repeat 25 times. This series is even more effective with 2-5 pound ankle weights. Progress into weighted exercises gradually.
