Children’s storytime at Bookophilia
here is nothing like watching a child’s face light up as he or she discovers a whole new world in the pages of a book. It is beyond cliché to say that reading is fundamental, but it’s a statement that needs repeating. Too often, our little ones choose video games and TV over a good book. Sometimes, parents need a little help to encourage their children to read and that’s why I like children’s storytime at Bookophilia. It’s a great way to show your children how fun reading can be or they can meet other kids who love to read, just like them. Storytime is on this Saturday at 11am at Bookophilia, so bring the little ones to listen to readings from a wide range of children’s literature.

The benefits of water for weight loss Contributed by Selena Deleon
Water may be the closest thing there is to a ‘silver bullet’ for weight loss. It contains no calories and can help you shed the pounds in the following ways:
1
2
3
Did you know that there are 14 teaspoons of sugar in one soda? When water is substituted in place of sugary beverages or other foods, it results in a reduction of total calorie intake.
fitness
Drinking a glass of water before meals and snacks can help you to feel full without consuming as many calories. All of the processes that happen in our body require water. Maintaining an adequate intake can help the body function maintaining ideal body temperature during exercise and increasing fat utilisation.
4
Many individuals mistake thirst for hunger. Drinking more water will prevent this mistake from happening.
5
Drinking water decreases the desire for other sugary, high calorie foods as it neutralises the palate.
6
The body will retain less water if intake is adequate.
How much is enough? You should drink half of your body weight in ounces of water per day. Recognise that you need additional water on warmer days and during exercise sessions. Urine that is clear to a pale yellow colour is the best indication of adequate hydration and an intake level that will promote weight loss success, so carry a bottle.

Fun time with the gayle family What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend? [We] tend to do more ‘fun things’ during the week and the weekends tend to be similar to the weekdays. We go to the beach or to a park to play with the remote controlled car, and other activities that may come up. One of our favourite things to do is to all stay in bed before getting up – and just enjoy each other’s company. We try to treasure the little things, especially with the kids being so young.
What has been your best family weekend ever? One of the best family weekends was visiting some friends (Djuvane and Rachel Browne) at Moorlands Camp. We got to do many of the things we enjoy doing together (painting, building sand castles, racing, playing football, playing with the RC car, Chubby bottle, telling stories in the grass, having a picnic outside etc.) Both Marc and myself were campers and counsellors at Moorlands in our youth, so it holds a special place in our heart. If you have ever been, you know how wonderful the grounds are. It’s so peaceful and calming.
What is your must do/must see/ must eat on the weekend? four-year-old son calls it ‘Choynese’ food. Top and middle: The Gayle clan hanging out at home. Bottom: Marc and the kids enjoy some play time.
The one thing we try to be as consistent with as possible is, not allowing them to sit in front of the TV too long. So, we tend to put a heavy emphasis on doing stuff and leaving the house. Can’t say we are perfect with that, but we do try :)
