+ All Wet Beachwear

E

aster weekend is quickly approaching and whether you decide to go to Ochi to hit up the parties or even if you choose to spend it some place coastal away from the crowds, one thing is for sure, you will need some beachwear! All Wet Beachwear (AWB) specialises in all things beach – swimsuits, cover-ups, hats, and sandals and they even carry some stock for men and children. It really is a one-stop shop for anyone looking for the perfect beach outfit (or a couple, as some shoppers have admitted). Another advantage is that AWB has an online store where shoppers can browse all the available styles and call the showroom to make sure that they have the styles in stock. And with new styles arriving frequently, there is always something different to see.

Meet the masterminds behind the successful Kingston Kitchen event

+ MELANIE

MILLER

What is your typical weekend?

My typical weekend usually entails an event that I’m setting up for, and of late preparing for Kingston Kitchen. On the rare occasion that I do have the weekend off, I usually spend it draped across my couch! I usually get together with some of my amazing girlfriends and have an impromptu girls night.

Do you have a weekend must see/ do/eat?

Jump in the car and head to Ocho Rios, Portland or even Ewarton to get some delicious pork. My other Sunday ritual is either corn pork from Sonia’s Homestyle Restaurant and of course some good Hellshire fish & lobster from Bev & Sons. I usually call ahead so as I arrive, my fish is hot, ready and waiting.

What has been your best weekend ever?

I’ve had so many great weekends it would be so unfair to mention one. What I do know is that they entailed friends in the country eating, laughing, chatting and partying.

ing that brings me greater joy than being around people whom I love. It’s a sense of calm that’s unexplainable.

What would be your ideal weekend?

My ideal weekend would be at Silver Sands in Trelawny because it’s a resort that has lots of villas and its own beach. I would invite my parents as well as all of my friends and their families.

What spot/event/activity would you recommend?

I would definitely check out Kingston Kitchen’s Night Market on Saturday, March 31 at Hope Gardens, 6pm-midnight. If yuh love yuh belly, this is where you need to be with lots of restaurants, caterers, chefs and bakers in one place selling their best stuff. Usually I would head down to M-10 Bar & Grill in Vineyard Town for the best steam fish ever! My Saturday lunch spot is definitely fried chicken at Epic Eats in Savannah Plaza.

What is your typical weekend?

Weekends take on a very different meaning when you have kids! The weekends are really the only time that we can get in some good quality time, and that’s not always guaranteed either. A lot of my crew also had babies recently, so we try and get the babies together, whether it’s at Hope Gardens, at someone’s house, or at the beach.

Do you have a weekend must see/do/eat?

Now that we are in the midst of Carnival season, the weekend usually starts with Mas Camp. We do try and get out and eat as much as possible as a family over the weekend, and like to try out new places. Dim Sum is usually a standard, and for a treat we love to drive up to EITS Cafe for some fresh mountain air.

What has been your best weekend ever?

Any opportunity we can get to go to Negril will undoubtedly be an unforgettable weekend, especially at Moondance Beach Villas, Villa

@LeesLoveLaws Sur Mer, Idle Awhile or Rock House. Carnival weekend will always be one of my best weekends; and as always my sister is coming in from New York, which makes it even more special.

Who are your weekends usually spent with?

They are usually spent with my husband Brett and my daughter Bella. Have to mention my new neighbours, my brother-in-law Jordan and his new wife Kimmy. Jordan lights up a mean grill, and Kimmy does some excellent crêpes.

What would be your ideal weekend?

We love popping across to Montego Bay for the weekend. Saturday will probably be spent at Doctor’s Cave Beach, followed by a jumbo Grapenut malt shake from Pelican’s. The Seawind Beach Club is the best way to spend a Sunday as they have an incredible brunch. The cove is perfect for kids, as are the cabanas.

What is your typical weekend?

My weekends can range from lazy to crazy! Sundays, however, will find me writing in the evenings trying to make deadline for my weekly Jamaica Observer food column!

Do you have a weekend must see/do/eat?

I would say I am more of a mountain and river kind of girl. I have a secret river I go to in St Thomas, which I found by accident on one of my solo adventures discovering the island – it’s absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. I like to take nibbles, swim and write in complete solitude. I love Jamaican street food, and will drive into the countryside at random and take my chances if a food spot catches my eye. A monthly weekend staple is supper club with some close friends. We choose a country and cook the cuisine of that nation and take turns hosting.

What has been your best weekend ever?

One of my best weekends was actually when I wasn’t living here. I have an amazing global network of friends so I invited 12 for a long holiday weekend. We flew into Kingston and departed from Montego Bay. We rented a bus and drove around all 14 parishes. It was tiring but an amazing experience where we interacted with all sorts of characters from uptown parties to country-dances.

Who are your weekends usually spent with? My family and close friends

What would be your ideal weekend?

Either renting a cabin in the Blue Mountains or a villa in Treasure Beach with some close friends, just bonding and eating tonnes of good food using produce from the locality.

+ Villa Kelso - Duncans, Trelawny

P

erched above the town of Duncans in Trelawny, overlooking Silver Sands and other neighbouring beaches, lays the beautiful Villa Kelso. Not only is Kelso one of my preferred relaxation spots on the north coast, it is one of my all-time favourite places to spend time with good friends. Old world charm meets comfort; a whole lot of fun, great service, topped with an amazing back drop encompassing breathtaking views and manicured grounds. Whether relaxing by the pool with a cocktail, enjoying a gourmet meal overlooking the coast, or playing a game of cards, Kelso never ceases to put me at ease. The memories I have made during my time spent at Kelso will always resonate because it is truly one of Jamaica’s hidden treasures.
