America’s first female serial killer begins spree November 30, 1989
Aileen Wuornos, after years of abuse and neglect, became the first American female serial killer to achieve notoriety when she began her seven-victim killing spree with Richard Mallory of Palm Harbour, Florida. Wuornos claimed self-defense for the murders. Charlize Theron won 17 awards, including the Oscar for Best Actress, for her portrayal of Wuornos in the 2003 movie, Monster.
World AIDS awareness day recognised
Thriller video debuts
Seven years after the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), two public information officers for the Global Programme on AIDS at the WHO conceptualised the idea of a World AIDS Day. The day is a worldwide effort designed to encourage public support and programming to prevent the spread of new HIV infection; provide awareness and education about HIV/AIDS and demonstrate compassion for those infected.
When Michael Jackson’s Thriller premiered on MTV, it became the world’s first ‘minimovie’ music video. At 14 minutes long with production costs of almost US$1 million (a huge figure at the time), its unprecedented merger of filmmaking and music made it the most influential music video in pop history. Thriller also broke race barriers as it was the first video by a black artist to be played on the channel. In 2006, the Guinness Book of World Records named it the most successful video in history, having sold 9 million units.

emphasise the power that one individual could have in the life of a child. Since 2009, TOYBOX has donated more than 8,000 toys. Each year, donations have exceeded their expectations. While this is the first of the partnership between TOYBOX and Skunk Nation, other partnerships have included RJR Communications, JAMPRO and ScotiaBank. So this Saturday, have fun for a good cause and spread a little Christmas cheer while you’re at it. Don’t forget to bring a toy!

What makes your weekends interesting? The stories. My aim in life is that after the age of 50, I’ll never have to buy a drink again. I want to have enough stories from my weekend activities that people will buy me drinks so that I’ll continue telling them about my past stories.
Tell us one of your most memorable stories. In preparation for one of my early Dover meets, we’d been working on the car all of Thursday night, going to work Friday, back to the garage Friday night and finished at about 2am. By then, if we went to sleep, we wouldn’t have made it in time for qualifying, so we decided to head out to Dover. We arrived about 4am and decided to practice after some guys said that the track should be okay to drive on.The place is pitch black apart from the car lights and I start out with a warm up lap and then I’m ready for the real thing. On corner four going into five, I’m going pretty fast and the back of the car kicks out and I’m trying to regain control. My lights hit the grass and it’s covered in dew and if I slide there, then it’s straight into a rock wall. I’m almost on the verge of panic when the back left wheel starts touching the grass. Then it catches back grip and I get back on the track.
Race stress at Dover Raceway
I don’t even finish the lap, just pull into the pits, legs shaking. All the guys there are laughing and I’m wondering why. Turns out they had just finished cutting the track for the dirt bike racing and there was mud left and they just wanted to see how I would’ve handled it. The worst part, I couldn’t even get out and cuss them because my legs were still too weak.
What are some of your favourite places to eat? Mykonos in Ochi, they do Greek. In Irish Town, definitely Crystal Edge or Café Blue. Those two restaurants are right beside each other and they work hand in hand. Miss Winsome from Crystal Edge makes some really, really good food, probably some of the best curry goat I’ve had outside of my grandmother’s. I really like Triple T’z food. I also enjoy Chilitos a whole lot as well, which is why I’m always there. I’m not really a big foodie, but I do like having a good time at food places.
If you had an unlimited budget, how would you spend your weekend? I’d probably go to a Formula One event. I can get to Brazil and back for the weekend. You can fly out on Friday night, get to Brazil some point on Saturday and you watch Formula One racing on Sunday and you fly back on Sunday evening to get back to work for Monday.
Hey wkndrs! We hope you had fun checking off the items on our last bucket list. We have another exciting list of new adventures for you to try on the weekends. Whenever you experience one of the things on the list, ensure that you take a picture and post it on our Facebook wall to share with your fellow weekend warriors. Don’t forget to download the list and check items off as you go.

Make a time capsule for the year starting January 1, 2013, adding something memorable every month (evey day if possible). Don’t open until January 1, 2014. Learn a new word every day, at the end of the month, try writing a paragraph or two with every word you learned. Plan a flash mob for Christmas eve, in a very public place (eg Half Way Tree).
