// Concept & Design Approach + Mother Tree The largest trees in forests that act as central hubs for vast below-ground mycorrhizal networks. It supports seedlings by infecting them with fungi and supplying them the nutrients they need to grow; it even change their root structure for other baby trees. Banyan tree or Ficus Benghalensis is well known for its big trunk and enormous aerial roots supporting them. Banyan tree also is synonym with the believes of eternity or longetivity in wellness and the practice of wellbeing in Hindu scriptures. The design vision revolves around the site existing vegetatiomn which consist of young trees and wellness symbolism and it converge to the idea of Banyan tree being the central of the site.

SITE PLAN
50 // Architecture Portfolio Ezzati Razali
+ Project Brief Tourism Community Centre @ Kota Tinggi is one of the efforts to upgrade the area. Its place rich in history can be an attraction for local communities, domestic tourist and international visitors. The design will be an important community centre with a variety of exciting activities. Tourism industry supported by many key sectors among which are transportation, accommodation, food and beverage, entertainment and connected industry. The project will be focusing on public/ community oriented programme with medium span structure for small organization with public interaction, up to 3-5 storey height with a plot ratio of 1:3.
+ Problem Statement Kota Tinggi town lack of accomodation lodging for tourist and visitors whether local or international. They tend to stay in Johor Bahru although its 2 hour drive from Kota Tinggi. The number of adequate and satisfying accomodation are questionable, hence young people only visits Kota Tinggi at day and be back by night instead of staying their night here in Kota Tinggi.

// Concept & Design Approach + Profile The surrounding building of the site have the same shape of side profile. The design mostly use in government offices or public school. the nature of the activites there are only lively when childrens went to school but went quiet once the school season ends. which could be conclude that the school serves only as a temporary place. + Bird house & Migratory birds Huge amount of tall vegetation and wildlife especially birds on site- bird house seems a good fitting for temporary stay. Temporary lodging for migratory birds.

+ Design Approach & Concept The Straits Eclectic shoplots in the heart of Johor Bahru was built in 1920s 1950s; a heritage gem to be discovered by everyone who visits the area. Deriving from the architecture style of the shoplots from the surrounded buildings and human activities in Johor Bahru most famous for- in Bazaar Karat, kaki lima is chosen to depict them. A canopy that shelters all regardless of the background and ages. A place to celebrates all. + Eclecticism Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources and styles. // Design Brief + Tourist Information Center The second project requires to propose a community center which located at Jalan Ibrahim alongside the straits overlooking Singapore. Most of the surrounding areas are old double storey shop houses that have been refurbished into cafes and retail units, giving new lease of life on the older part of Johor Bahru town. + The Canopy The idea is to create a user-friendly tourist information centre that would help assist them, during their travels. It will be a One Stop Centre for the tourist, complete with all their necessities. Driving concept are from the Angsana trees which are abundant around the site and buzzling activities at night in Bazaar Karat; travellers are united under one canopy.

+ Background The Flores Island is located in East Tenggara, the southermost province of Indonesia. Manggarai regency is located in wae Rebo Village which now has preserved by UNESCO. Wae rebo is remote mountain village, at some 1200 metres above sea level. It is located within dense rain forest mountain of flores in eastern Indonesia. It also dwelled with a tribe called, Manggarai which was situated in the western most part of island’s most densely populated region. Beyond the Race Wae river, a trail formed by generations of the Wae Rebo community climbing up and down the slopes, leads steeply but steadily to the village. Mbaru niang is the ‘rumah adat’ of manggarai people and it could accomodate 30 to 40 people (6-8 families) in each house. + Concept of Wae Rebo house Wae Rebo house’s spatial organization of built space and structure are according to the orientation and partition that are fixed and formed a configuration of circular pattern. The circular Niang house is explicitly compared with circular lingko field or the traditional manggarai fields, which is formed a circular, “spider web pattern” of the land. The arrangement and orientation of the seventh Mbaru Niang is an open U-shape facing community’s central openair altar.

This group project emphasise on heritage study and measured drawing of a Government English School in Segamat, Johor. I was largely responsible of report writing, modelling the building digitally, documenting the building’s history, uses, construction and taking site measurements. Government English School has a long history that dates back to 1926. The private school is built during British Colonial period therefore the building’s architecture style largely influenced by Neo-Classical- Palladianism. The architecture style characterised by classical forms, symmetry, strict proportion, the exteriors of Palladian buildings were often austere. The details can be seen throughout the whole building; scallops motif, fleur de lis, Victoria Cross and Tuscan column with distinct Etruscan style. The school undergoes several name changes and it stays to Sekolah Menengah Tinggi Segamat (STS) since 1972 till now. It was an eye-opening experience to research and uncover the history of the long-established prestigious school and Segamat town itself.
