*** Car culture in Miami is best described with one word: donk. A donk is a classic American cruiser— usually an early-1970s Chevrolet Impala or Caprice—outfitted with high-rise wheels and rims to create a rolling work of art. Miami just happens to be the home of donk culture.

No one does the donk better than Jit at Master of Body. The self-taught legend is based in Miami Gardens close to Miami International Autodrome. His work is worldrenowned, boasting a celebrity-heavy clientele that includes endless NFL superstars. Anybody with the money can easily buy a supercar or a classic hot rod, but the customization completed by Jit and other donk aficionados is arguably even more special.

*** Miami’s skyline may be dotted with flashy high rises and brandnew buildings, but one long-standing familyowned institution has sat comfortably amongst them all for the past 108 years: Joe’s Stone Crab. Florida stone crabs are the most expensive seafood per pound in the United States, largely because only the claws of the crab are edible and the process to catch them is very laborintensive. Fishermen remove the claws and return the crabs to the ocean, allowing the claws to regenerate over time. Joe’s is a South Beach staple and the oldschool service is a welcome reminder of the restaurant’s deep roots.

*** At the intersection of cars and art is TheArsenale, known as “the most insane garage in the world”. TheArsenale’s Wynwood location showcases a rotating collection of unique vehicles ranging from trickedout cars to prototype submarines. *** Daniel Ricciardo, the beloved Australian star adopted by Americans, might be more excited than any other driver on the Miami grid. Miami, he told RACEWKND, is going to set the bar “really high. Like, where do you go from here?” The racing, he said, would be “the cherry on top; I think there’s going to be so much more going on that weekend.” The embrace of Ricciardo by American fans is a by-product of his star turn on the Netflix “Drive to Survive” series. He returns the love by spending a lot of his off-season in the USA, where he owns a home and lives the American lifestyle when he’s not jetsetting around the world with Formula One. The charming McLaren driver hasn’t had the easiest start to the 2022 season, but Ricciardo is known for two things: His perpetual smile, and always having fun. Miami—with its slew of parties, events, great food, and better company—is set to bring out Ricciardo’s best.

*** The first version of the Miami International Autodrome was proposed in 2019. After 75 different iterations, the stage is now set with a 3.36-mile, 19-turn track that will pose a fresh challenge to every team and driver on the grid. The Miami Grand Prix street course will take place on the grounds surrounding the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team. The hosts are bringing the best of Miami to the circuit by offering an exceptional range of viewing options — including a marina for parked yachts and a beach club within the track’s grounds. Mercedes driver George Russell had nothing but praise for the track after his initial simulator runs and an off-season visit to Miami: “It was fast and flowing, had some really tight corners and some really long straights, which I think will offer some good overtaking opportunities. They’ve done a really good job.”
