HELLO I’m Fabian Meise. The meise is a small northern european bird that is easily recognizable due to it’s blue-yellow feathering. Studying Transportation Design at the Pforzheim School of Applied Scienence I specialized in Interior Design. In my opinion it is the currently most rapily evolving design field with lots of opportunity for visionary development as well as smart, witty details.

THE COCKPIT IS A SCREEN /// ////////////////////

THE COCKPIT IS A SCREEN /// ////////////////////
CONCEPT
However, integrating a huge screen into the interior tastefully is a challenge.
The screens in our lives are growing larger and cheaper. Especially in an suv, displaying information about terrain and navigation on a large screen makes a lot of sense.
IDEA & ARCHITECTURE
sunshades
dash sculpture
screen
My concept is to place light sculputral shapes in front of the screen to shade it from direct sunlight and to create three-dimensionality. Eventually the whole surface behind the dash itself will be a screen.

RENDERINGS While the bottom rendering sure is dramatic and interesting, I wanted to optimize the screen estate further. The better the visibility of the behind-thedash-screen the stronger the concept. I also explored the visual impact of a 3d screen, as two fixed viewers are technically simple to provide with a goggle-less 3d image..
24 / 25
THE COCKPIT IS A SCREEN /// ////////////////////
RENDERINGS The second sketch on this page is the first final direction I would have chosen for further development into a model. (Fig. 1) The architecture is quite unexpected, but clean and the screen is visible for the passenger as well as the driver and well shaded.
(Fig. 1)
26 / 27
THE COCKPIT IS A SCREEN /// ////////////////////
RENDERINGS While the design of the bottom rendering (Fig. 1) is not extremely unusual, it is
very clean, featuring one clear line that runs horizontally from door to door. The design features the screen area and allows for some nice surface detailing on the passenger side’s dash surface. Furthermore the design is unusual enough for a concept car, but also imaginable as a production design, which is the sweet spot I had imagined of this project. (Fig. 1)

THE SNOWMOG SNOWMOBILE
As young people are very price sensitive the Snow Unimog could become the powder boarding companion of choice. Mercedes as a brand would benefit heavily.
The vehicle would offer some kind of ski lift using a winch and a long spidersuede cable. The
cable
would
follow
the
snowboarders attached to a drone that doubles as a camera device.

A HELICOPTER ON WHEELS
The Unimog is one of the most iconic vehicles ever created, yet it does not directly contribute to the fame of the Mercedes-Benz brand. The infamous charakteristics of the Unimog would however make a perfect fit - the best or nothing. The

will

A SOCIAL INTERIOR The seats (Fig. 1) are floating freely on straps and are arranged in a slight arch that facilitates communication and creates a sense of companionship. Large transparent areas create a feeling of lightness and allowing light to flow into the interior.

VIRTUAL MAP The passengers snow glasses feature high resolution wavefront projection screens, that create an illusion of a map of the destination mountain range (Fig. 1) in front of the snowboarders.
The exterior (Fig. 2) is iconic as well as futuristic and will become a signature design that is easily connected to snowboarding as it is to Mercedes-Benz.

realized in the model as a floating object using ultra thin steel wires. (Fig. 2) Late in the design process I was persuaded to change the passenger count to five, radically changing the cockpit area. (Fig. 3)

Parts of the Dashboard as well as the steering wheel and the seats are suspended (Fig. 1) on their own. Using ultrafast gyroscopes, as are being used for example in the Ocolus Rift, the passenger can remain in perfect calm, while the vehicle itself is violently shaking, allowing fast and rough off road races to be a lot more fun. In autonomous mode the seats can move backwards, while the dashboard moves forward (Fig. 2), creating a lounge area for driver and
passenger.

AN AGELESS SPYDER The height of the cars’ seat is controlled by an advanced ai that allows the seat to catch the driver like a baseball glove, as he jumps into the cockpit. (Fig. 1) That same mechanism however greatly facilitates stepping out of the car (Fig. 2) for aged drivers when used in
reverse order. The
design
combines
underlining
the drivers athletic capability with supporting aged drivers in a smart way.

LIGHTNESS Following the design philosophy of Hartmut Esslinger, as it is a great fit for KIA, I created a wing shaped dashbard surface (Fig. ) and combined it with a very technical (Fig. 2) steering column. Speed in

(Fig. 1)
ERGONOMY Due to the fact, that the car is very flat, i wanted to improve the ergonomy. Exterior design principles and structural rigidity demand thicker doors and a wider rocker (Fig. 1). A large part of the user experience is how you enter and leave the car. I wanted this experience to be as swift, nimble and sporty as the rest of the vehicle. Therefore the backrest and a part of the seating surface (Fig. 2) moves up and back, facilitating the passengers into a more ergonomic position. (Fig. 3)

FINAL DESIGN
The seat’s design became more mature when i decided to choose a flixible mesh as the seat’s main material. The mechanism resembles a hammock. The whole seat surface moves upwards (Fig. 1) while the steering retracts into
the steering column. (Fig. 2) If the driver jumps into the car he is ‘caught’ by the seat. If he leaves the car the seat supports him.
