We Bring Life to Your Vision

Why Fabric By its very nature, fabric affords a freedom not offered by other construction methods. Fabric breaks the ‘rules’ of conventional practices, allowing you to explore new possibilities and make a progressive impression in a visual space. The flexible attributes of fabric integrate the playful natures of light and dark, and of form and function into a statement of strength and beauty. Fabric in architecture allows you to capture and define space while evoking an emotional response from the participant. Textiles give you freedom to access the simplest of pleasures by allowing the space to interact with the architectural elements through the senses of sight and touch. The results make the most familiar and simplest of forms seem amazing.

What you see in wood, steel, stone, plaster; We envision in lightweight textiles and aluminum. www.fabricimages.com

A wide selection of printable materials are available to ensure the best personality for your application.

Fabric Images is staffed with some of the finest sewing specialists, trained on the techniques for architectural fabric finishing. Staging

As a project is awarded, one of Fabric Images’ seasoned Project Managers takes over, overseeing the project from implementation through completion. The Project Manager works with the team, ensuring that details are captured, conveyed and implemented, and your vision is realized. The Project Manager is the conduit between you and your project, keeping you updated on the progress.

With all manufacturing taking place in-house, every facet of a project is closely reviewed throughout the process with numerous measures of quality control. All projects undergo a final set-up in our production facility, where an inspection is held for a final check of quality, fit and finish prior to shipping to the site of installation.

What sets Fabric Images apart is our spirit of exploration and enthusiasm for design and architecture. A constant quest for new textiles with intriguing surface qualities and the latest metal solutions keeps us pushing the limits of fabric architecture. As a design-forward manufacturer, we understand and deliver on the fine details and

objectives required to produce fabric architecture and tensioned fabric displays. Our hope is to afford you these resources and the encouragement to create a memorable experience that drives brand awareness experientially, tactically and connectively.

Metal Fabrication

Design Engineering

Material Resourcing

The versatility of our skilled metal shop provides the opportunity to use a host of metal options within a design solution. Whether creating a backbone covered with fabric or a decorative metal element, the structural frame is treated like a work of art. Our unique connection techniques make installation effortless without sacrificing strength or integrity.

As each custom structural solution presents its own unique specifications, it is up to the experts to identify challenges and produce workable, sound solutions. Our skilled engineers work in the virtual world to create real world solutions. Structure engineering accounts for design intent, installation method and structural integrity, including engineer stamped drawings.

The Fabric Images’ in-house materials library contains an extensive sampling of materials, both printable and non-printable. The library pulls from various markets of textiles, including fashion, automotive and interiors. Each material solution receives flame certification to ensure it meets the standards required per site specific installations.

Installation

Prototyping

Fabric Images has an in-house team of specialized construction experts who have fine-tuned their skills to meet requirements specific to the handling and installation of fabric architecture and its integration into permanent and temporary applications. We also have built relationships with outside resources that specialize in the installation of the custom architectural solutions.

With the custom nature of the design solutions we bring to life, we are accustomed to prototyping unique requests to ensure the solution captures the vision prior to full production. We constantly research various markets to learn about trends in materials, technique and design, interpreting the findings back to fabric architecture and materials in order to develop future solutions.

Fabric Images, Inc.

Modern Wayfinding PROJECT Chedraui DESIGN Little SIZE 90,000 square feet

The Chedraui chain was looking to update their look and create an atmospheric experience for guests. The design was clean and minimal and was purposed to improve the store communication. The environment takes advantage of the characteristics offered by frame and fabric as a means of way-finding and ambiance. The elements include a 115ft long canopy,

14

(3) 11.75ft x 21ft oval canopies, (1) 49ft dimensional header and multiple ribbon headers ranging in size from 35ft to 60ft in length. The project was awarded an A.R.E (Association for Retail Environments) Visual Presentation Award for the oval fabric ceiling elements.

Retail Store Graphics PROJECT GAP DESIGN Escato

As part of their in-store visual merchandising, the GAP brand of stores in Mexico integrated fabric graphics. The design solutions utilize both the Fabric Images’ tubular frame system and Groove extrusion frame system and are located within each department as well as window displays. Graphics are easily changed out seasonally by store employees. This cost effective approach has given GAP the high-quality graphics they need to eloquently represent their brand.

Customized Branding PROJECT Rite Aid DESIGN GroupRed SIZE 847 square feet

Fabric Images was brought on board for the creation of the alcove ribbon header located within the beauty department, as part of an upgrade to the store’s image. The 81.5ft long header required customization within each individual store, varying in size, space configuration, ceiling height, curvature and lighting hue.

16

We Bring Life to Your Vision

As part of the program, Fabric Images oversaw the discovery process, including the layout of the alcove ribbon within each space. Other aspects included managing site surveys and installation and communicating with the customer, general contractor and installation partners.

A Space Within A Space PROJECT Palacio de Hierro DESIGN Pavlik SIZE 454 square feet

This custom solution was designed to separate and define departments within the retail environment. Included in the design are a series of ribbon-like ceiling headers along with several uniquely-shaped columns. Within the space, the ceiling ribbons were designed around the environments pre-existing recessed lighting. The large columns served a multi-purpose role in that they were also shrouds over the buildings’ concrete columns. The contemporary quality of the architecture enhanced the brand personality by capturing the essence of the original design and engaging the shoppers. The result was the accurate representation of the contemporary woman in the modern day.

Ceiling Sculptures PROJECT Bellinzona Mall DESIGN Pilkelab SIZE 7,000 square feet

These flattened tear drop canopies created a spatial ambiance within the atrium of the shopping mall. Utilizing a white material allowed the environment to feel open, all while filling the abundance of space and filtering the natural light. A soft white light is located inside of each canopy. The filtered illumination added just enough ambient light, while the structures

themselves accentuated the modern atmosphere with clean lines and subtle curves.

Temporary Installation PROJECT Louis Vuitton DESIGN Fabric Images Internacional

The ribbon installed at Louis Vuitton in Mexico City, Mexico showcases the effects that fabric architecture can have in retail. Spanning nearly 500ft in length as it travels around the building, this unconventional exterior design grabs the attention of passers-by and adds to the festivities of the holiday season. Displayed for nearly two months, this distinctive architecture adds spirit to the holiday season. Utilizing tension fabric allowed for an accurate representation of large-scale holiday ribbons, with the soft lines and supple touch of the architecture. As displayed, it looks as though the building is a gift awaiting to be opened.

Overhead Lamps PROJECT Revel Hotel Casino DESIGN iWorks

Within the vast expanse leading to the hotel casino are a series of seven larger-than-life lamps ranging in size from 9’(d) x 9’h to 14’(d) x 16’h. The lamps bring style and sophistication into the atrium, as well as a bit of edge. Complementing the personality of the environment is the incorporation of Mystique Satin on the outer surface. Utilizing textiles allows the

lamps a shade-like appearance, while the abstract dye-sub printed interior, reveals popping color when illuminated.

Acoustical Hatch Sound Cloud PROJECT West77 DESIGN 4orm Studio / Fabric Images, Inc. SIZE 450 square feet

A public pool can be a noisy environment, so while renovating this space focus was placed on acoustical quality, as well as design aesthetic. The 15ft x 30ft Hatch canopy was designed as a representation of waves within the water. The undulations of the canopy softy flow through the space, offering guests a serene environment. Adding to the quality of the space is the acoustical control that the Hatch canopy offers through its cellular design and use of acoustical felt material. “The entire Fabric Images team went above and beyond to help us meet our deadlines and exceed our client’s expectations.” ~David Pinson, Innovation Specialist, 4orm Studio

Acoustical DĂŠcor PROJECT Hill-Rom DESIGN CannonDesign SIZE 20,000 square feet

Creating acoustical clarity within a large open office space, these 23 six foot tall custom fins offer separation and dimension. Using acoustical felt material in combination with a proprietary assembly technique, the fins were floor supported units, each 2 in depth. A decorative rail captures each fin in two locations, keeping distance even while offering visual

22

interest. To support the fins, a custom steel base was created with a white powder coated finish. This was flush mounted within the concrete floor. Adding uniformity within the environment is the integration of over 130 acoustical ceiling baffles.

Hospital Education Center PROJECT Turrentine DESIGN Optika Scenicworks SIZE 900 square feet

The Patient Education Center incorporates a series of illuminated fabric structures which create a cohesive tone throughout the space. The environment promotes wellness and compassion with the soft lighting and green-toned graphic accents. The fabric structures act as an enhancement within the space, creating form while also acting as a source of light. The forms also support a 28 foot long fabric graphic, which tells the story of the space. The environment greatly supports the mission of healing compassionately, teaching innovatively, and improving constantly through its modern design and sophisticated use of space.

Collaborative Open Office PROJECT Corporate Office DESIGN Fabric Images, Inc. SIZE 17,095 square feet

This office space is a living presentation showcasing the effect of fabric architecture within an office space. This tactile work environment serves to both inspire and educate, while affording a collaborative spirit. Elements including the divider walls, canopies and light fixtures are created using frame and fabric. The structural integrity of the framework supports

24

We Bring Life to Your Vision

electrical work, white boards and the overhead canopies. Materials were chosen and positioned based on the feeling they portrayed. This included personalities such as Chenille, Crepe and Mesh. The fabrics offer textures and create dimension within the space, making it both functional and aesthetic, while the quality of the walls aided in sound absorption.

Architectural Ceiling Canopies PROJECT Corporate Lobby DESIGN GGA Architects

This office environment was brought to life with a collage of white tension fabric ceiling canopies. By off-setting the linear arrangement and varying the sizes, a modern image was created that enhanced the brands personality.

Fabric Images, Inc.

Educational Incubator PROJECT Barrington High School DESIGN Whitney Architects SIZE 1,230 square feet

The renovation of this “business incubator classroom resulted in a bright, open office-like environment. Helping to dress the environment were a series of tension fabric components including twelve 4ft x 4ft canopies, one 10ft x 11ft canopy with recessed lighting and wall graphics spanning over 100ft. The fabric elements helped to create the ambiance that

26

We Bring Life to Your Vision

was intended for the space, while also being a major component for sound dampening. The natural sound absorption qualities of the fabric used, along with the finishing style and positioning of the fabric elements within the space created the quiet ambience that was needed.

Temporary Event Pavilion PROJECT Madrid Pavilion DESIGN Madrid City, Alberto Compo Baeza SIZE 3,720 square feet

Created for the FIL, Guadalajara Book Fair, the second largest book fair in the world, the Madrid Pavilion pays homage to Spanish literature. The main structure is a large cylinder standing 42 feet (h) x 61 feet diameter. To create a structure of this magnitude, the frame was structurally engineered using aluminum tubing. Black on the outside and white on the inside the fabric cover offers the surface needed to strengthen the brand story. Inside the space guests are exposed to an amphitheater with white bleachers and an area filled with shelves of books. A white fabric ceiling offers natural light to filter into the space, enhancing the designs mission of ‘You will win the light’.

27

Fabric Images, Inc.

Immersive Museum Space PROJECT Adler Planetarium DESIGN Thomas Roszak Architecture SIZE 7,509 square feet

The architecture within the Alder Planetarium, leading to the Grainger Sky Theater, home of the “Deep Space Adventure exhibit consists of flowing, organic tension fabric arches with portals, each varying in size and shape. Fabric was sourced which would withstand for a minimum of ten years and also enhance the lighting and projection, both front and rear.

28

We Bring Life to Your Vision

Due to the historic nature of the building, the structure could not mount to or physically alter the building in any way. This lead to the frame structure being engineered and built as a completely independent, floor-supported unit. The structure also encapsulated and housed all of the HVAC, electrical and projection equipment.

Layered Art Installation PROJECT Parallax Gap DESIGN FreelandBuck SIZE 3,100 square Feet

Parallax Gap is a suspended ceiling structure that interprets the line drawings of nine iconic American ceilings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Depth is realized through printing of color and shading along with the strategic positioning of eight layers, over a span of 8 feet. The three dimensional representation of line drawings was represented through cut patterns within a 10 foot wide industrial grade non-woven polyester fabric which was tensioned to a perimeter frame. “...Fabric Images is open to experimentation and multiple ways of executing a project, but they also have the expertise and proprietary products and materials to produce very high-quality results. ~Brennan Buck, Partner, FreelandBuck

29

Fabric Images, Inc.

Solar Powered Pavilion PROJECT PURE Tension Pavilion DESIGN Synthesis Design + Architecture STRUCTURAL ENGINEER Buro Happold SIZE 400 square feet

The PURE Tension Pavilion is a lightweight, rapidly deployable, tensioned membrane structure that acts as a portable charging station. To achieve the proper tension and curvature with only a simple perimeter framework, the fabric was cut and sewn in a very precise manner. 518 Mesh tiles of

30

We Bring Life to Your Vision

fabric were “quilted together, achieving the organic shape and enabling the proper tension. Incorporated into the fabric are 178 Photovoltaic cells. The cells were mounted to leaf-shaped panels of black vinyl, which were then applied to the main fabric covering. Once attached, the cells were wired together and connected to the main battery supply.

Temporary Outdoor Pavilion PROJECT Burnham Pavilion DESIGN Zaha Hadid Architects SIZE 3,230 square feet

The Burnham Pavilion was commissioned as a temporary installation to celebrate Chicago’s centennial. It is a high-tensioned fabric solution that oozes luminescence and interactivity. The metal structure was a combination of aluminum and steel, 2” and 3” in diameter. The secret to the Pavilion’s shape was the 26 varying arched ribs that tapered to create the shell-like shape. Covering the exterior of the pavilion is Starfire, an outdoor-friendly material. The inside of the structure consisted of Flag Knit and Spandex. The combination gave the flexibility and brightness desired and accepted projections and theatrical lighting very well. This was exemplified with the addition of LED color-changing lights.
