Spend the day climbing outside on real rock at Harrisons Rocks near Tunbridge Wells. This course is best suited to those who have some climbing experience on indoor walls and would like to try climbing outside but unsure where to begin. All specialist equipment is provided. Ratio: 1:6 Cost: £80.00 Essential Rope Work for Real Rock Want to further your knowledge of outdoor climbing then this course is for you. You will learn essential rope work techniques to climb safely outside, including anchor selection and suitable knots enabling you to climb independently with friends. At AOAC we actively encourage children to have fun whilst learning about the very basics of climbing in a safe and secure environment. The sessions are for 5-7 yrs focusing around movement and fun on the wall and not so much about getting to the top, although that’s fun too!! All children receive an attendance certificate at end of term.
08 Rockhoppers is our junior climbing club; which follows The National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme. NICAS is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit achievement on artificial climbing structures and is open to children aged 8 years and above. There are 5 levels of increasing technical skill and responsibility.

FOR 8-16 YRS Level 1: Foundation Climber Level 2: Top Rope Climber A top roping level aimed at best practice Level 3: Technical Climber Focuses on technique and movement skills Level 4: Lead Climber Skills required to lead climb Level 5: Advanced Climber Improving performance
As well as weekly climbing sessions there are monthly trips to alternative venues both indoors and out, together with a week-long residential every summer. Climbers purchase a log book and pay a one off registration fee of ÂŁ7.50 for level 3-5 to monitor their ongoing progress.
09 AOAC is an unsupervised facility unless tuition and training have been booked and paid for in advance. AOAC accepts no liability for injury sustained due to the unsafe behaviour of others. The BMC participation statement is very clear, it should be read and understood by all users of AOAC. “The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”
Foundation (Level 1) The Level 1 course is aimed at those that want to join Rock Hoppers (Level 2-5). The scheme teaches how to put on a harness correctly, belay safely and tie knots. Level 1 must be completed prior to joining Rock Hoppers.
Rockhoppers (Levels 2-5) Our established junior climbing club is open to those that have completed the Foundation course. Sessions look to develop climbing skills/technique through Levels 2-5 of the NICAS scheme. CANOE/KAYAK AT AOAC 2014 Taster Session Foundation Course Coaching Clinic
Our water sports season runs from March 1st until October 31st 2014. Taster and foundation courses can be booked via reception. Coaching Clinic runs all year round, there is no need to book, just turn up on the day. Arrive 20 minutes before session start time to allow for safety briefing and kitting up.

Our 2hr Canoe and Kayak taster sessions give you a chance to get out on the open water with one of our professional paddle sport coaches. The session is aimed at Beginner Level and is an ideal starting point for any paddler aged 8 years and above. Ratio: 1:8 Cost: Adult: £12.50 Junior (8-15yrs): £10
A four session course with our coaches working with you to develop basic skills in kayaking helping you to gain confidence on the water. The course is based on the Canoe England (BCU) 1 Star Syllabus for adults. Under 14's start on the Paddle Power Scheme as part of this course. Ratio: 1:8 Cost: Adult: £70 Junior (8-15yrs): £50
This session will guide you through perfecting your skills on the water. It’s a friendly inclusive session giving you the chance to meet other paddlers. Simply drop in and pay on the day, no need to book!! This session is ideal for those that have completed a Taster session and Foundation course to cement basic skills and confidence. Coaches are on hand to offer tips and advice on how to develop your paddle sport skills, techniques, confidence, understanding and enjoyment. Want to surf the wave? Our coaches love teaching on white water and fast running tides on the River Adur. This course is ideal for working on your 3 star and advanced paddling skills. These courses are run over 2 x 2.5 hour sessions. Ratio: 1:6 Cost: Adults: ÂŁ50 Juniors 8-15yrs: ÂŁ35
Why not take in one of our River trips. During different times of the year we offer guided tours along the River Adur, Wye, Wey and Thames using various types of craft. From Canadian Canoes to Stand Up Paddle Boarding we offer a trip to suit you. Enquire at reception for information on our next trip.

Paddle Hoppers is an after school paddling club for young people aged 8-16yrs. Sessions run every Tuesday during term time. Paddle Hoppers work towards the Paddle Power scheme taking in various paddle competences. FANCY A CHALLENGE? BCU 1 star and 2 star Award Assessment days The BCU 1 Star is a flat water award that demonstrates an individual has basic boat control and foundation skills and the BCU 2 Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddle sport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding into how the paddle, boat and water interact. Learn to roll at Wadurs Swimming Pool Once a month we offer a kayak session in the comfort of an indoor swimming pool!! This is the perfect environment to develop your skills whilst we show you how to capsize and roll at your own pace. Under 18’s require adult accompaniment. 17 New National Governing Body Coaching awards for Paddle Sport will be facilitated by AOAC in 2014 with all on the water training taking place at Shoreham Canal by Shoreham Harbour and classroom work at AOAC.

COACHING AWARDS UKCC BCU Level 1 Coach Award This is the first coaching level award run by the BCU under the UKCC scheme and means you can run fun sessions; deliver Paddle Power Start and work on sheltered water under the guidance of a higher qualified coach. You must be a minimum of 16 years old to apply and register with the BCU at least one month before attending the course. Registrants must have a new 2 star qualification and have an FSRT. The course runs across 2 weekends.
UKCC BCU Level 2 Training Coach Award The level 2 Coach training is a 4 day course over 2 weekends and will enable you to coach 1* and 2* paddle power tests. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply and register with the BCU at least one month before attending the course. Registrants must have a 3* qualification within any discipline; a first aid certificate and have completed the new level 1 qualification or a transfer.For course registration and further information please contact reception.
RECOMMENDED PADDLE SPORT KIT LIST T-Shirt, preferably long sleeved, thick jumper, sweatshirt or fleece jogging bottoms/leggings or shorts- NO DENIM. Suitable footwear; beach shoes, plimsolls. 18 AOAC offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities, opportunities and experiences to schools, colleges, youth groups and other organisations. On land or water based we can offer you and your organisation a number of exciting activities under the tutorage of our highly qualified and experienced instructors. These can be paddled by individuals or up to four people from either a sitting or kneeling position. Paddler is not enclosed and a single blade paddle is used. AOAC is adjacent to the Downs Link cycle route which provides ideal access to the extensive bridle way system leading across the Downs including the South Downs Way. Our instructors choose a suitably challenging ride and sessions include skills and technique as well as providing interesting local information and map work. Sessions can be tailored to meet the objectives of the group and all instructors hold 'Mountain Bike Leaders Awards'. Bikes are also available to 'Hire' individually. The centre believe strongly in providing sustainable transport methods in order to reduce carbon emissions and promote health and wellbeing to all age groups and abilities.

AOAC offer a suitably challenging 12 mile link between the centre and RSPB Pulborough Brooks which takes in the beauty of the South Downs. Other less challenging routes are on offer as well as the opportunity to be part of one of our guided tours instructed by our team of Mountain Bike Leaders. BEL BASIC EXPEDITION LEADER COURSE The Basic Expedition Leader Course (BEL) is a National Award course that covers map reading, land based navigation and expedition skills. At the end of the course you will be a competent user of maps and compasses, confidently planning overnight expeditions and have a good knowledge of different types of camping stoves, menu planning, tents and the associated clothing and equipment. HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES Our Mission: ‘To inspire and unlock potential through adventure’ AOAC run holiday activities, geared to give children the best possible experience. We run a range of programmes and activities for children aged 5-16 yrs. AOAC staff are qualified and experienced so your children stay safe, whilst having fun. Our adventurous and educational programmes are enjoyed by all. Whether it’s kayaking or raft building in the great outdoors or perfecting skills on our 10m indoor climbing wall, we have got the activities to inspire. Activities include Archery, Low Ropes, Raft Building, Kayaking, Canoeing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Mountain Biking, Climbing, Bouldering, Orienteering… there is just so much to do!
