and looking to our future A warm welcome to the Ainsworth Jewellers 2017 Annual Gift Guide. Unlike previous years, the gift guide is not a Christmas theme. Instead, in light of recent developments at Ainsworth’s, we are welcoming you to our Refurbishment Sale. Building on the success of former celebrations at our iconic store on Darwen

Street, we have continued to extend our range of jewellery, watches and gifts. In the following months you should start to notice a gradual refurbishment to the shop, which has now been on Darwen Street for 53 years, and proudly stands as Blackburn’s oldest town centre business, celebrating 147 years in the town. 3

NEW FOR

2018 Changes are coming to Ainsworth Jewellers in 2018, and we are excited to share the news with you. Following the success of our refurbishment sale in November 2017, we will be starting work on our new consultation area in-store, and a new shop front. Our new website is now up and running where you can now purchase any of our stock from the comfort of your own home, spreading the Ainsworth name far and wide. We also have more items and brands coming on board, with Garmin and Weird Ape watches, and Les Georgettes pendants, adding to the success of the bangles and rings. It’s an exciting time for all and we can’t wait to hear what you think!

STORY The original since 1976, Trollbeads remain one of our biggest selling brands at Ainsworth Jewellers. With new collections released each season, as well as new concepts and an annual ‘People’s Bead’, there is a bead for every occasion and always something to add to the wish list. This year we saw the launch of the Unique Bracelet - a coloured leather bracelet with the choice of a completely unique, handmade glass bead to make your bracelet unlike anyone else’s. 8

FOR THE

FELLAS We are proud to stock a wide range of men’s jewellery from the fantastic Fred Bennett collection. Fred Bennett is renowned for a collection of innovative designs in silver, stainless steel and leather, which reflect modish masculinity without pretension. This collection presents accessories with the urban gentleman in mind - inspired by street style and personal customisation, industrial style pieces are both softened through woven leather inlays or organic breading and given tactile character by adopting handsome texture. 9

AINSWORTH Ainsworth Jewellers started in Blackburn in 1870 by Joseph Ainsworth, just two shops away from our present site at 63 Darwen Street. In 1885, Joseph moved the business to 12 Northgate, then in 1902, across the road to 15 Northgate. In 1907 he was joined by his three sons: George, Alfred and James. Alfred remained at 15 Northgate while James opened a shop at 74 King William Street. In 1921, George was joined by his son Arnold, and together they opened 48 Market Place. Around the start of the Second World War, James moved to help Arnold when he was called up to war, moving the store from 48 to 50 Market Place. In 1956 and 1961 respectively, Arnold’s

sons Michael and Kenneth joined the business. In 1965, with the redevelopment of the town centre, the business moved to 57-59 Darwen Street where it has remained ever since. Kenneth’s son Philip joined the business in 1990, and upon Michael’s retirement in 1995, became a director of the business. Philip, a director of the Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) has led the company through renovations in-store, rebranding and the maintenance of the family business, and still runs the business to this day. In 2014, Ainsworth’s celebrated 50 years on Darwen Street and now currently stands at 147 years in Blackburn Town Centre - the most well established town centre business. 11

WITH THIS

The very first examples of weddings rings were actually found in Ancient Egypt. Here the circle itself was a symbol of eternity and even today the unbroken ring represents the perpetual love of spouses. Here at Ainsworth Jewellers we have a wide range of wedding and engagement rings, as well as traditional pendants such as the St Christopher and a crucifix.

ANCIENT

AMBER But what makes amber so special for jewellery? Amber’s colour is unlike any other. Its fiery orange, yellow or brown makes it a very unique stone which would liven up any day, and guaranteed to be a conversation starter.

Unlike the natural gemstones which are mined from rocks, amber is actually fossilised tree resin with the oldest dating back approximately 320 million years ago. As well as use in beautiful jewellery, amber is probably best known for its insects and other types of inclusions. Millions of years ago when amber oozed from countless plants, the substance acted as a sticky trap for ants, bees, termites and other insects.
