The Kid Laroi: From Humble Beginnings

The Kid Laroi has taken over the world. The kid from Waterloo, Sydney, Australia, who now is an LA local and besties with the likes of Justin Bieber and Post Malone, has carved his way from very humble beginnings.

NEVER BE ASHAMED OF WHO YOU ONCE WERE. THAT PERSON HELPED YOU TO BE THE PERSON THAT YOU ARE TODAY.

With a lifetime of experiences that have no doubt helped him create the stories that he tells, this ability is also in his blood, with both of his parents being immersed in the music or media industry, moving into music was second nature to Laroi.

His artistic name takes inspiration from his Indigenous ancestry of the Kamilaroi people and so does his storytelling in his music and lyrics. First signed to Sony Music Australia in 2017 with a development deal, Laroi started to fly and develop his style and confidence and build himself into a unique artist. Never before had Australian music seen an artist with a very distinct style of his own.

The fan base had an underground vibe and Laroi’s popularity grew slowly and steadily the “old way”, by his music being shared and word of mouth, until the massive break happened. However, smaller wins were consistently occurring along the way: singles with Miley Cyrus, and collaborations with Machine Gun Kelly and Post Malone. Then Justin Bieber DM’d Laroi and told him that he wanted to work with him! And so the international hit Stay was born and anyone not on The Kid Laroi wagon jumped on.

Not so long ago, when The Kid Laroi returned to his native Australia with a hugely successful sold out tour, it was obvious how much he is loved in his homeland. Not bad for “the kid” who took a gamble and dropped out of Australian Performing Arts Grammar School to pursue his dreams and an international career.

The Kid Laroi has put Australian music back on the international stage.
