A GIG FOR GIGGLES

Emmy-nominated Indian comedian Vir Das will perform in the Kingdom on September 30.

Popular Indian comedian and actor, Vir Das is set to tickle ribs at The Quarry Bahrain, at Al Dana Amphitheatre. The show is part of his hugely anticipated world tour – Mind Fool. India’s second-best selling live act in 2022, Vir will entertain, dipping into his unique style of comedy.

In 2021, the standup artist was nominated for the Emmy Awards, for Vir Das: For India, which is available on Netflix; he has other shows on the same platform, all of which have catapulted him to international stardom. Vir is known for his incredibly funny takes on cancel culture, a trend where individuals or institutions who have said or done things that are considered unacceptable by the masses, online or offline, are boycotted.

An alumnus of Harvard University’s joint programme with Moscow Arts Theatre, Vir began his career with a gig in India’s capital, New Delhi. He has hosted and made appearances in many television shows – mostly comedy – and earlier this year, featured on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast. Vir’s international performances include the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011 and 2022. He also performed a monologue titled Two India’s at the Kennedy Center in Washington. In it, he offered a thought- provoking perspective, through a comical lens, about important political, social and cultural aspects of the subcontinent; rich vs. poor, safety of women and Bollywood among others. While it sparked quite the controversy, it also made Vir a favourite especially among the younger masses.

Vir has appeared in many Bollywood movies such as Delhi Belly and Badmash Company , where he played substantial roles. Additionally, he has also composed songs, which are available on Apple Music and Spotify. Watch him live at The Quarry Bahrain. Offering international fusion cuisine with a twist, it’s a stunning location, with sculpted rock features. They host a range of high-end events, and international DJs and performers, all creating an exclusive, immersive experience for guests.

Tickets to the show cost BD25 per head. ✤
