Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus reflects the changing face of modern Istanbul, infusing a 19th century Ottoman palace with the contemporary elegance of its waterfront setting. Hadag went to stay at the stunning property and experience true Four Seasons hospitality…

LOCATED ON THE EuROPEAN BANkS of the legendary Bosphorus strait with views across to the hills of Asia, this is a Four Seasons property unlike any other we’ve stayed in before. With the feeling of one foot in modern Europe and the other in bustling Asia, there’s a real sense of place and wonder to this special setting. Inside, stylish interiors offer a refreshing take on traditional Ottoman design, creating a fitting base from which to explore the upscale shops, restaurants and bars of the city’s modern centre. The hotel’s 170 rooms occupy the original palace building and two new wings, overlooking a variety of waterfront, garden and city views with nearly a quarter featuring views across the Bosphorus strait to the hills of Asia. Light, understated interiors reflect the coastal location, while decorative Turkish touches and traditional artworks allude to the Bosphorus as the former summer retreat of the Ottoman elite. Extensive outdoor amenities – including heated pool and whirlpool, bar pavilions and the Wedding Garden – are located along a 190m (623 ft) waterfront terrace, framed by the Bosphorus and its ever-changing landscape of boats, yachts, cruise-ships and ferries. Beneath the terrace is a 2,100sqm (22,605sqft) spa, skylit from above, featuring three hammams or as they’re famously known – Turkish baths.

Function facilities include two ballrooms, which can accommodate receptions for up to 1,000 people.

It’s truly a sprawling hotel with so much to discover. Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus has 145 guest rooms and 25 suites. The rooms feature a striking blend of Ottoman design and contemporary furnishings. Subtle hand-painted ceiling motifs mirror the geometric shapes of the fabrics below, while handcrafted ‘Hiref’ mirrors and lithographs representative of Turkish and Ottoman art adorn the walls. In the suites, freestanding baths and pendulous glass lanterns enhance the modern elegance of the design.

The four Palace Roof Suites feature private rooftop terraces with a 180-degree view of the Bosphorus, across to the Bosphorus Bridge on one side and the distant skyline of the Old Town on the other. The second floor Atik Pasha Suite can be configured for up to three bedrooms and includes a grand foyer, living / entertainment area and dining room for up to ten guests. The ensuite bathroom has steam room, small hammam (Turkish bath), rain shower and wide-reaching Bosphorus views.

For dining, choose Aqua - the hotel’s main dining venue, located in the northern wing of the palace building. During breakfast buffet and à la carte selections, Aqua combines local and international elements. For lunch and dinner, Italian classics are served with a list of local and international vino. There’s also Yali Lounge and Yali Mezze & Wine Bar (seasonal) which make for great venues to relax, take in the Turkish charm and sample tasty mezze and drinks.

The Spa introduces a decadent approach to the authentic hammam (Turkish bath) experience, combining the traditional cleansing properties of the bath with the indulgent delights of contemporary, western treatments. Three separate hammams (men’s, women’s and couples) – a first in the city – nine treatment rooms and one VIP Spa suite (with whirlpool) are arranged around a pillared pool, sky-lit from a height of 6.7 m (22ft). The pool features underwater music, whirlpool and poolside relaxation areas. Other features include pre- and post-treatment lounges and men’s and women’s locker areas with steam room and sauna. Treatments are based around all-natural Sodashi, Ayurvedic Sundari and French Biologique Rechercehe products.

Blending together historical design, modern comforts, beautiful views and a spectacular location – the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus is luxurious, homely and a character-filled property that we couldn’t recommend enough! www.fourseasons.com/bosphorus
