Fitness Trends
• Wearable technology such as Polar Heart Rate Monitors, Samsung Gear, Fitbit and iWatch are still as popular as ever. Other technology such as Myzone is also being adopted by fitness clubs, to aid the members in monitoring their fitness levels and get frequent updates on their performance inside the clubs. This improves engagement with the members and our constant need to see fitness related metrics. People are motivated by results.
• Functional fitness is still continuing to maintain its relevance year on year. A few years ago, TRX, Vipr and kettlebell training were really popular however now body weight training, High Intensity Interval Training and Calisthenics Training is making a comeback.
• Personal Training and Group Exercise Classes has always been go to fitness activities for many people and that hasn’t changed much over the last few years and I believe that trend will continue, however it is about finding the right trainer or class to suit your needs.
Fitness Tips
• The biggest challenge anyone will ever face with regards to achieving their fitness goals is an ongoing battle with your own mindset. If you are defeated mentally you will not be able to work hard enough nor be consistent in achieving your goals. Work on the mind and your body will follow. A simple way to positively impact your mindset if to remind yourself regularly throughout the day why you are exercising and focus on the desired outcome. If this is done daily you will foster your commitment which in turn would assist you to achieve your fitness goals.
• Another important fitness tip would be to have fun, for most people if you take your fitness routine too seriously you will eventually lose focus, burn yourself out and inevitably stop. Keep it fun and mix it up. Challenge yourself to a new class or learning a new discipline, don’t get into the cycle of making your workout a chore, it should be a pleasure.
• Nutrition is key. Do your research about nutrition or seek help from a professional, a healthy balanced diet is essential to reaching your fitness goals.
