TRAINEE DISCOVERY PROGRAMME IQ-EQ

Felicity Guerin took part in IQ-EQ Jersey’s Trainee Discovery Programme, a twoyear course where trainees take part in four placements covering different business areas, including IQ-EQ’s Private Wealth, Funds, Corporate and Compliance departments. Three years later, Felicity has a flourishing career as an Officer for Private Wealth. We asked her about her job and her aspirations.

What made you choose IQ-EQ?

I left school at 18 and knew I wanted to work in finance, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I saw IQ-EQ Jersey’s Trainee Discovery Programme was being advertised, which offered the chance to explore different areas in finance over two years. Three years later, here I am!

What does your day-to-day role involve?

I work in Private Wealth on a variety of structures. My day usually starts with a team meeting to discuss any urgent matters, and then I prioritise my work for the day with a to-do list. A typical day will involve checking payments, minutes, emails, calls, talking to clients, board meetings, client meetings and transactional work. I’m also involved in mentoring and training the junior members of the team.

IQ-EQ encourages all employees to develop their professional profiles. Have you taken part in any training or qualifications?

I completed an International Finance and Administration (IFA) Level 4 certificate, and I’m now working towards my Level 5 diploma. What motivates you?

You’ll spend up to six months working with different teams in the main areas of our business. You’ll build your skills, your knowledge and your network and after two years we’ll work together to find a role that’s the perfect fit for you.
