Meditation and Its Psyhiological Young, SN (2011). Affects on the Brain "Biologic effects of mindfulness meditation: growing insights into neurobiologic aspects of the prevention of depression".
Oxytocin often called the "Love Hormone" Scientists found that the hormone oxytocin was released into the blood stream when you hold a friend close. This lowers blood pressure, reduces stress and anxiety and can even improve your memory. Oxytocin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, is primarily known for increasing bonding, social behaviour and closeness between parents, children and couples." Brain activity in the amygdala, cingulate, and frontal cortex areas seems to suggest that meditation has an impact on mood and emotion as previously discussed. Clinical studies have attempted to deploy this effect to treat emotional disorders and several studies have showed significant success in using mindfulness meditation to treat depression.[19][20] These studies demonstrated that meditation was statistically effective at combating depression as well as preventing it. Another similar study cited success in reducing depression

relapse, especially in patients that have relapsed three or more times.[21] Reviews of these findings, and others, are more skeptical and offer other explanations for the observed results.[22] Across the board, reviews voice a need for more studies before meditation can backed scientifically as a therapy for depression. Meditation and its effect on the central nervous system has become a focus of collaborative research in neuroscience, psychology and neurobiology during the latter 20th century. Research on meditation sought to define and characterize various practices. Meditation’s effect on the brain can be broken up into two categories: state changes and trait changes, respectively alterations in brain activities during
the act of meditating and changes For instance, one study by Richard Davidson and Jon Kabat-Zinn showed that eight weeks of mindfulness-based meditation produced ignificant increases in left-sided anterior brain activity, which is associated with positive emotional states.[11] Positive emotion may be a skill which can be achieved with training similar to learning to ride a bike or play the piano.[12]

Love
After
Love
The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the others welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life. -Derek

Journal of Visionary Culture volume 4: Alex Grey
On St. Albert’s shoulder blade is a portrait of Paracelsus, the Alchemist of Basel, 500 years ago, who is credited with founding modern Chemistry, yet his alchemical goal was to discover the Philosopher’s Stone. Alchemy was the art and science of the transmutation of the elements, like turning lead into gold and the identification of the soul of the alchemist with the chemical transformations as a metaphor of their journey ti enlightenment. Modern Chemistry took the psyche and mystery out of the material weighed and measured world, reducing the world to a heap of atoms. LSD brought psyche back, front and center to the chemical material world.
Alex Grey- Painting of Dr. Hofman LSD Revelation That is partly why I believe that LSD is the Philosopher’s Stone, the discovery of which, also in the town of Basel, is the result of an alchemical process put in motion by the great Paracelsus. In the portrait, I painted a lot of LSD personalities and symbolism in the aura of Dr. Hofmann. Some of these people were Dr Hofmann’s friends, like Aldous Huxley, Gordon Wasson, Maria Sabina and Richard Evans Schultes. Each of these people had a special connection to psychedelics. Huxley wrote fearlessly about the psychedelic experience in The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell, which also talks about Visionary states
and works of art.’‘In my portrait of Dr. Hofmann, the eye of transcendental spirit in the upper left hand corner of the painting releases spiralic streams of primordial rainbow spheres of potential, one of which becomes a compassionate alchemical angel, whose tears drip down to anoint or ‘create’ the LSD molecule that the doctor holds in his hands. LSD opens a visionary gateway to the heart, as shown by the spiral of fractally infinitizing eyes resembling the stripey eye-spheres of the molecule, swirling into the center of the chest.

A Statement of Urgency From Earh
The future perils to humanity as a result of the 2011 Fukushima Dai-Chi nuclear disaster, which occurred in the wake of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami, continue to emerge. New reports indicate that a wealth of new radioactive materials has been spewed into the atmosphere causing concern that It’s spreading globally. Nuclear radiation is for Arvol Looking Horse, who is widely recognized as a chief and the spiritual leader of all three branches of the Sioux tribe – Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota – delivered a statement at the United Nations on Thursday, November 14. Looking Horse is the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, the youngest ever. The Council Statement he presented “reflects the wisdom of the Spiritual People of the Earth, of North and South America, working in unity to restore peace, harmony and balance for our collective future and for all living beings.” T h e Creator created the People of the Earth into the Land at the beginning of Creation
and gave us a way of life. This way of life has been passed down generation-to-generation since the beginning. We have not honored this way of life through our own actions and we must live these original instructions in order to restore universal balance and harmony. We are a part of Creation; thus, if we break the Laws of Creation, we destroy ourselves. We, the Original Caretakers of Mother Earth,
have no choice but to follow and uphold the Original Instructions, which sustains the continuity of Life. We recognize our umbilical connection to Mother Earth and understand that she is the source of life, not a resource to be exploited. We speak on behalf of all Creation today, to communicate an urgent message that man has gone too far, placing us in the state of survival. We warned that one day you would not be

The Spiritual PeopLes of The able to control what you have created. That day is here. Not heeding warnings from both Nature and the People of the Earth keeps us on the path of self-destruction. This self-destructive path has led to the Fukushima nuclear crisis, the Gulf oil spill, tar sands devastation, pipeline failures, impacts of carbon dioxide emissions and the
destruction of ground water through hydraulic fracking, just to name a few. In addition, these activities and development continue to cause the deterioration and destruction of sacred places and sacred waters that are vital for Life. Powerful technologies are out of control and are threatening the future of all life. The Fukushima nuclear

crisis alone is a threat to the future of humanity. Yet, our concern goes far beyond this single threat. Our concern is with the cumulative and compounding devastation that is being wrought by the actions of human beings around the world. It is the combination of resource extraction, genetically modified organisms, moral failures, pollution, introduction of invasive species and much, much more that are threatening the future of life on Earth. The compounding of bad decisions and their corresponding actions are extremely shortsighted. They do not consider the future generations and they do not respect or honor the Creator’s Natural Law. We strongly urge for the governmental authorities to respond with an open invitation to work and consult with us to solve the world’s problems, without war. We must stop waging war against Mother Earth, and ourselves. We acknowledge that all of these devastating ity to acknowledge that we have created a path to self-destruction. We must restore the Original Instructions in our lives to halt this devastation. The sanctity of the Original Instructions has been violated.

We, the Original Caretakers of Mother Earth, offer our spiritual insight, wisdom and vision to the global community to help guide the actions needed to overcome the current threats to all life. We only have to look at our own bodies to recognize the sacred purpose of water on Mother Earth. We respect and honor our spiritual relationship with the lifeblood of Mother Earth. One does not sell or contaminate their mother’s blood. These capitalistic actions must stop and we must recover our sacred relationship with the Spirit of Water The People of the Earth understand that the Fukushima nuclear crisis continues to threaten the future of all life. We understand the full implications of this crisis even with the suppression of information and the filtering of truth by the corporate owned media and Nation States. We strongly urge the media, corporations and Nation States
to acknowledge and convey the true facts that threaten us, so that the international community may work together to resolve this crisis, based on the foundation of Truth.

As a result, the Spiritual People of the Earth were called ceremonially to come together at the home of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle. These Spiritual Leaders and those that carry great responsibility for their people from both North and South America came together with the sacred fire for four days at the end of September 2013 to fulfill their sacred responsibilities. During this time it was revealed that the spirit of destruction gained its’ strength by our spiritually disconnected actions. We are all responsible in varying degrees for calling forth this spirit of destruction, thus we are all bound to begin restoring what we have damaged by helping one another recover our sacred responsibility to the Earth.

I
’m a Catholic, but I used to love going to Vacation Bible School with my fundamentalist friends.” – Paul Begala I’ve been writing these blogs for a few months now, trying to drum up some enthusiasm for a national Humanist Retreat Center. To be honest, I’m not getting a whole lot of response. I’ve written
about it being my dream and I’ve written about who I envision sharing the dream with. But is it just me? Maybe other Humanists don’t share
the dream or want to share it. Other Humanists I know (mostly in Arizona, because that is where I have lived in recent years, but also in South
Carolina where I have family members in the Humanist community), seem agreed that the Humanist movement needs to be advanced, to be more visible, to be more…… human …… in the public arena.
To advance, more of us need to come out publicly as Humanists, just as our LGBT friends and relatives (and some of us are part of that community as well) have been coming out. More and more the people who are coming out as LGBT are not really surprising or shocking the public (for example the sitcom actor, Jim Parsons, who came out this week) and I take that as a major sign of it being more acceptable than it once was to be out as LGBT. As more of us come out as Atheists, hopefully that will become more acceptable as well, to our religious family, friends and neighbors. So if we’re advancing, why retreat? We need to take time to retreat occasionally from the day-to-day religiously infused world, to have some time to think alone and/or to interact with others who are on the same page we are (or one close by8 ists and Freethinkers need to retreat… for a weekend, a week, a month… even longer. Sometimes we need to retreat in order to advance. So who’s with me?
