The half moon dome

the design of the dome was simplified from the previous phase to be a partial spheric form, in order to remove the need for the leg- like supports. The dome is 8’ in diameter, 4’ in hieght, large enough to fit a view persons sitting inside it .

2

The dimension of the unfolded pattern was 27’ x 6 1/2 “ x 15’5”. The pattern was broken into separate modules with overlaps, so that it could be fabricated using 24”x 47”.030 thick polypropylene sheets and be assembled together with double- sided tapes. Atotsl of 62 polypropylene sheets were used.

Air Capturing Air capturing \ Distributing

The Passive and active system are very related in the project. The building is acting as an emburella, but instade of dispose of te water to the outside, it drain it to the inside as waterfal through the building. The fresh air are been reflected from the elevated garden and captured from the roof where all the air handelers located. The main ducks or the shaft duckets transfare the air to the distrubuted ducks, and the to the sub-ducks which sent it to the rooms and spaces inside the hotel;. Wall Section:

the main goal of the studio will be to unpack and provide alternatives to traditional street activations with graffiti remediation processes in order to evoke a form of community and togetherness in the immediately adjacent Pico Union neighborhood. three design interventions will be installed in the Pico Union neighborhood, along the streets of Magnolia, Arapahoe, and Elden, all of which terminate at Pico Boulevard. Over the course of this fastpaced studio, students will research, design, fabricate, and install full-scale street furniture for each site.

THE 24 H LIBRARY The 24 hour library considers the social supervision as the main ruler for systematic organization of form, functions and spaces. In order to achieve this goal we are attempting to create a certain level of horizontal transparency to provide the possibility of constant human supervision in the whole secure, urban and complex space. The horizontal transparency is being achieved by designing our spaces as an ambiguous cloud somewhere between the ground and the sky. As a result, we wanted to redefine the word library, from a place where people can only come to read or web search, to a place where people can come to for social interaction amongst one another. Meanwhile transforming the 24 hour library for the community into a sanctuary for learning through providing physical books, E books, Interactive projection technology, music rooms, auditoriums, study rooms, and digital fabrication labs. Through the floating major program, the structural challenge is an attempt in defining a giant hanging space which would serve as the main connective member of the collection, the heart of the building. By using the reflective material, this hanging structure would imply a buoyant interaction between visitors of the site and the fifth facade of our complex which is considered as the bottom of the floating buildings. Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Portrait of Art Dealer Amboise Vollard, we have introduced our passage, connective ramps and circulation stairs among cracks/gaps between the buildings. The cracks which were initially conceived through developing the available axis of the site would also bring light in the main ground level common plaza. The central floated object tries to provide the sense of unity by fastening a vast range of special qualities as you circulate through the building.

Studio 3a - Project description : Through a critical analysis and comparison of the historical, contemporary, and multi-cultural evolution of house and housing, the studio addresses form and meaning of the dwelling with a discussion that juxtaposes interior vs. exterior space, public vs. private space, community vs. the individual, and traditional vs. non-traditional families. The studio focus is divided between the single-family dwelling and multiple-unit housing typologies. The course includes a sustainable materials and systems component that includes lectures and written research assignments.

decade of the 20th century, in the ear of silent movies, Edendale was widely known as the home of most major movies studios on the West Coast. Amongits many claims, it was home to the Keystone Kops, and the site of manymovie firsts, including Charlie Chapline’s first movie, the first feature-lengthcomedy, and the first pie-in-the-face. The Edendale movie studios were mostlyconcentrated in a four-block stretch of Allesandro Street, between Berkeley Ave and Duane st. Allesandro St was later renamed Glendale blvd (and a smaller nearby street took on the name Allesandro).

Design

Massing The building is conceptually designed to pay respect to the past rich

history of the Edandale neighborhood (Sunset blvd with Alvrado blvd) , by layering three slabs of varying sizes of apartment units. The neighborhood is an ideal location for the conditions of the concept. It is comprised of three principles; inside and outside, private versus public, as well as how light works within the building. The circulation is primarily performed through the three towers that are holding the slabs up vertically to be rising from the ground and also providing opportunities for horizontally traveling through the building. The reason for implementing these three principles is because the neighborhood is very busy and active which allows the elevated building to be separated from 32

the ground, resulting in a more private space above.

Studio 2b - Project description : Natural and urban site orders are explored and analyzed using writing, photography, mapping and sectional studies to develop site planning and building and design with a special emphasis given to the relationship between program and external context. Projects focus on influences of adjacencies and environment, through the development of clear systems of movement, space, structure, energy efficiency and daylight.

Pleating is to fold (something flexible and relatively flat) over on itself so that one part of it covers another or arranges a fold of definite. First the original contours were manipulated using the pleating strategy creating a certain geometry. Then the contours were re-manipulated in a way to enhance the role of the building’s exterior by extending the interior to give the space more depth. The topography provides an open-air swimming pool and an indoor basketball court. The park allows and encourages sport, from walking to running, biking, skating and a series of performance and relaxation areas through a network of paths or activity zones. N
