OUR STORY Our life-long dream has been to create clothing for life's great moments: the ones spent by the water, around a bonfire, catching waves or watching sunrises. Growing up as kids in a small beach town, we couldn't find high quality clothing that reflected our casual lifestyle. We paid our dues working necessary jobs (Mike in design and Alex in finance) to gain the valuable experience needed to create the clothing company we always wanted. In 2013, we officially founded our namesake brand and are proud to offer the highest quality products, including men's and women's clothing, eco-friendly swimwear, blankets, and unique accessories. We design clothing made from premium materials with a focus on unwavering craftsmanship & strive to develop close personal relationships with our manufacturers to craft high quality goods.

Mia Woolrich, an Aussie native, Rockaway dweller, and friendly face that you may recognize from our website. She was our first model ever and quickly became a good friend. Paul Schmidt, Mia's boyfriend, an amazing surfboard shaper (check out his brand Paul Surf), and friend we've somehow coerced into modeling for us with the promise of awesome surf spots. Kathryn Everett, a dear friend who spearheads all fundraising and operations at APJ. She seamlessly planned our trip and showed us the unfaltering spirit and strength of the local community. OUR TRIP TO

Inspired by the work of APJ and allured by the beauty of Haiti, we spent five days exploring the country. After landing in dusty and hot Port-auPrince, we visited Cité Soleil, where over 300,000 people live without running water or electricity, and St. Luke's Hospital, where families desperately and patiently seek basic health care services. While at St. Luke's, we met Father Rick Franchette, who is both a doctor and a priest, and who runs secondary schools, orphanages, and the hospital. As he spoke to us about the daily challenges of simply surviving in Haiti, he stressed the need to educate our hearts, not just our minds. The mystery of life is quite simple, he sighed with a smile, “we must give what we get.”

Haiti, in one word, is complex. Two extremes exist at once: profound hope and beauty alongside poverty and corruption. Kerry (Alex's wife and Brand President) had visited Haiti twice before with her dear friend Kathryn Everett, who helps run Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ), an organization that operates the largest free high school in Haiti. With over 2,800 students, most of whom come from the poorest slum in Haiti, the school itself is a beacon of light. APJ also runs the Ciné Institute, a school that offers film and audio workshops to local Haitians seeking to use their art to create change.

paradise, to explore Haiti's amazing treasures. We visited Bassin Bleu, a beautiful turquoise lagoon at the base of a waterfall, surfed with local kids from Surf Haiti, explored Hotel Florita, an almost-haunted colonial hotel known for its strong rum sours, and enjoyed a home cooked meal of grilled lobster and fish around a bonfire. We left the trip tired, motivated, and grateful. Though companies do not have hearts, the people who run them do. Faherty is a clothing company, but we’re also a family. Mike is passionate about the design of fabric and prints; Alex loves the challenge of running the business; Kerry focuses on people and partnerships; and our mom Ninie seeks to create beautiful spaces for our stores. Our end goal, however, is not only to make clothes, but to create experiences that make us more alive, more mindful, and more connected. And in doing so, we seek to infuse integrity into every aspect of our business, whether it be from the source and sustainability of the fabrics, the caliber of our manufacturing partners, or the ways we give back.
