#CaptureFairfield

WELCOME TO THE INAUGURAL FAIRFIELD CITY #CAPTUREFAIRFIELD PHOTOBOOK Fairfield City Council launched the inaugural #CaptureFairfield photography competition in May 2017 to encourage residents and visitors to Fairfield City to capture the essence of our diverse City and show off their photography talents. Fairfield City invited entrants from all over Australia in four categories: primary school student, secondary school student, amateur and professional photographer. Budding photographers were encouraged to enter their photographs and also upload them on Instagram using the hashtag #CaptureFairfield. More than 100 photographs were submitted, with many more posted on Instagram using the hashtag #CaptureFairfield. This year, the themes for the photography competition matched the Local Government Week 2017 themes of Diversity, Discovery and Democracy. The winning photographs and a select number of entries were displayed in this photobook and during Local Government Week (31 July - 6 August 2017) at Council’s mobile offices, Fairfield City Libraries and on the screen at The Crescent Plaza, Fairfield. Thank you to everyone who entered our inaugural #CaptureFairfield photography competition. We have been ecstatic with the response and look forward to many more entries in future years.

Message from the Mayor Fairfield City is a region with wonderful facilities for families to enjoy. The launch of Council’s inaugural photography competition, #CaptureFairfield, has inspired many people to discover some of our hidden gems. In only its first year, we received a large number of entries, including 31 from local primary school children at Old Guildford Public School. I am impressed by the quality of the entries and would like to thank everyone who entered the competition. As I looked through each submission, I felt great pride for our City and people. I hope you enjoy this year’s entries displayed in this book and I am sure it will encourage you to get involved next year.

Photo Entries

The following pages showcase many of the entries from the inaugural Fairfield City #CaptureFairfield photography competition, held in 2017. Our three judges came together in July to determine the winning photographs, which were assessed on their technical process as well as their strong visual appeal. The judges were extremely impressed by the creativity and diversity expressed by many entries and look forward to #CaptureFairfield continuing and growing in years to come. At the Council meeting on Tuesday 25 July 2017, the winners were presented with certificates and prizes by Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone. They were congratulated at the meeting in front of Fairfield City Councillors, Council staff, the media and community members. Council has endeavoured to include in this book a variety of the entries in each of the three themes and four groups, including the winners and highly commended entries.
