COMPETITION

WELCOME TO THE FAIRFIELD CITY #CAPTUREFAIRFIELD PHOTOBOOK Fairfield City Council’s #CaptureFairfield 2018 competition saw more than 230 photographs entered, almost double the amount than last year. Among these entries, Fairfield City residents and visitors captured the essence of our diverse City and showed off their photography talents. Photographers were encouraged to enter their photographs and also upload them on Instagram using the hashtag #CaptureFairfield. Four categories were set for entrants including primary school students, secondary school students, amateur and professional photographers. A big thank you goes to Fairvale High School who hosted the launch this year. It was great to see our local secondary schools involved, with secondary students having the highest number of entries from the four entry categories. This year, the theme for the photography competition was aligned with Local Government Week’s 2018 theme The Power of Community: Conservation, Celebration and Commitment. The winning photographs, highly commended and a select number of entries were displayed in this photobook and during Local Government Week (30 July - 5 August 2018) at Council’s mobile offices, Whitlam Library and on the screen at The Crescent Plaza, Fairfield. Thank you to everyone who entered our #CaptureFairfield photography competition, and congratulations to our winners. We have enjoyed exploring Fairfield City through your lenses and look forward to even more entries in next year’s competition!

Photo Entries

The following pages showcase many of the entries from the 2018 Fairfield City #CaptureFairfield photography competition. Our two judges came together in July to determine the winning photographs, which were assessed on their technical process as well as their strong visual appeal. The judges were impressed by the creativity and diversity expressed by many entries and look forward to #CaptureFairfield continuing and growing in years to come. At the Council meeting on Tuesday 24 July 2018, the winners were presented with certificates and prizes by Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone. They were congratulated at the meeting in front of Fairfield City Councillors, Council staff, the media and community. Council has endeavoured to include in this book a variety of the entries in each of the three themes and four categories, including the winners and highly commended entries.
