MAYOR’S MESSAGE Frank Carbone It’s only March and already we have seen one of the busiest starts to the year in our City’s history. The People’s Globe tribute to our City’s diversity at Fairfield Showground
In the last three months, we have completed works on the four-lane upgrade to Smithfield Road, the People’s Globe tribute to our City’s diversity at Fairfield Showground, and the new 1,000 square metre Fairfield Library at 1-3 Hamilton Road. At the same time we have continued work on delivering our City’s first all abilities playground at Deerbush Park, a new multi-level car park at Hughes Street in Cabramatta, and a new 55-metre wave pool at Aquatopia. Planning is also continuing for a new 1000-seat pavilion and our City’s largest off-leash dog park at Fairfield Showground, a new Community Business Hub at the former Fairfield Library site at Kenyon Street, and an upgrade to Cabravale Leisure Centre to add health and wellbeing services for the elderly, people with disabilities and those recovering from illness. We will also continue with millions of dollars in improvements to parks, playgrounds and sportsfields across our City.
The Showground’s new pavilion will provide additional capacity for spectators
These projects are an investment into what matters to you and will bring benefits to every resident in Fairfield City, and strengthen our City’s reputation as a great place to live, work, play and raise a family. We will also continue to improve the high-quality services you rely on. We will make an important change to the kerbside pick-up system that will allow you to book two FREE clean-ups a year when you want them. We are continuing to improve and upgrade local roads, footpaths and car parking across the City; plant trees to improve the local environment; and invest in our libraries and leisure centres. As your Mayor, I am excited by what we delivered in 2020 and am looking forward to opening even more exciting projects in 2021 for you and your family.

NEW FAIRFIELD LIBRARY Come and use Council’s exciting new $6 million state-of-the-art Fairfield Library at 1-3 Hamilton Road to meet friends, play, study, learn or read. At a huge 1000 square metres, it is more than five times the size of the average Sydney home and almost double the size of the previous Fairfield Library. With more space, desks, computers, magazines and books, and access to all our online collections, the new library is everything that residents would expect of a flagship library, which was constructed with funding assistance from the State Library of NSW. There are plenty of quiet spaces, but also spaces for residents to chat together and a gaming room with the latest technology. Other spaces include a meeting room with a whiteboard wall and a soundproof central meeting space for larger gatherings. You will also be able to grab a coffee and a bite to eat at the on-site modern café once a provider has been chosen. To keep children enthralled, there is a large dedicated area with books, play and craft and a Lego wall, so no matter what age you are the new Fairfield Library has something for all ages. And it’s all free. Meanwhile, Council is converting the previous Fairfield Library site at Kenyon Street into a Community Business Hub which will open later this year. Watch this space!
