BOUNCING BACK TO BUSINESS
It’s been a busy first quarter for the centre with the opening of the highly anticipated Fairfield City HQ (FCHQ) at the old library site, and the return of Wonderful Wednesday and other street activation programs for 2022. FCHQ is open for business, providing business start ups, entrepreneurs and established small to medium sized businesses with access to affordable office space and resources. The facility is fitted out with topof-the-line green screen and video/sound production technology; making producing a quality promotional video, or recording an ad or podcast in the studio possible. In addition to this, FCHQ provides ongoing business events like mentoring, workshops, and onsite business advisory services, as well as opportunities for like-minded business people to collaborate and learn from each other. Head to fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/FCHQ to learn more. March was NSW Small Business Month, and to celebrate, FCHQ hosted a series of events to support, upskill and connect our small business community. I hope you had the chance to drop in and learn about the services and possibilities at this great facility. February saw the return of the Wonderful Wednesday street activation program for 2022 and Mrs Bunny will be making an appearance at Ware, Spencer and Smart streets, including Thomas Ware Plaza on Thursday 14 April between 11.30am – 1.30pm ahead of Easter. In May we celebrate Mother’s Day as well as the city centre’s major event Culinary Carnival – a three-week long multicultural food bonanza attracting visitation to the centre, so mark your calendars! Lastly, we’re excited to announce that Fairfield City Centre has launched on Instagram. Be sure to follow us @fairfieldcitycentre for the latest news from our business community, upcoming events, and important projects happening around the centre.

Experience What’s On in Fairfield City Centre
GETTING ON WITH IT Fairfield City Council will strategically tackle the challenges the city centre faces in a post COVID-19 world. For decades our city centre has been the nucleus of productivity and investment; as well as cultural connection and providing the best shopping experiences.
The goal to drive economic vibrancy day and night. The Fairfield Place team will aim to lure back customers with a combination of energising experiences, to awaken community activity, culture and entertainment with the goal to drive economic vibrancy day and night. “Ultimately, people want the city centre to be a place that meets their essential human desire to connect. That’s why Wonderful Wednesday is a major platform in our overall revitalisation strategy as well as other get up and go programs. “Also the opening of the Fairfield City HQ in Kenyon Street, Fairfield will support businesses with a range of services, it will be the go to point for the City’s entrepreneurs; the facilities are world class.
“Now, it is up to everyone with a stake in our city centre - consumers, business, building owners, retailers and restaurateurs to come together. It’s time to trial, test and experiment and to turn places of business into centres of experience.
KEYS TO SUCCESS When it comes to locksmiths murphy’s law plays its part, a broken lock will always work when demonstrated for the locksmith! Darren McLean of Thunderbolt Locksmiths in Nelson Street has had the master key since 1991 and that has earned him the Fairfield City Lifetime Business Award. “Being a locksmith is not a glamorous job but I love the work and my customers,” Darren said. “To receive this recognition proves that hard work and dedication is appreciated.

“I am honoured to join the who’s who of Fairfield that have been presented with this prestigious award, such as Lionel Lee of Bing Lee.” The Fairfield City Lifetime Business Award is bestowed upon businesses that have been operating for 25 years or more. “There’s no doubt that Darren has the keys to success and his customers have respect and faith in him, a combination that has unlocked many doors.
A HOLY FAIRFIELD EASTER For Fairfield’s large Christian community, Easter is the holiest season on the calendar and the city centre’s Easter parade will be held on Thursday 14 April 2022, an event that brings people together. This is a hopeful event and the Easter egg symbolises new life. “Jesus’ resurrection is the promise of eternal life and that’s what the Easter egg is all about,” Mrs Tsioutsias owner of Ritz Cafe said. Another must see event is the centre’s Mother’s Day tribute on Friday 6 May between 11am-1pm.
Jesus’ resurrection is the promise of eternal life and that’s what the Easter egg is all about. Mums will be serenaded by the popular musical duo Ross Maio and James Zappia. Proving life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother.
FOOD AND FIREWORKS AT CULINARY CARNIVAL Visitors are invited to explore the array of cuisines on offer while supporting local business.
For the first time Culinary Carnival will go off with a bang, culminating with a fireworks extravaganza. The epic food festival gets underway on Saturday 28 May at 11am in Spencer and Ware streets. Fairfield residents and Sydneysiders alike will be counting down the minutes to 6pm when a spectacular fireworks show will close the iconic event. Mayor Frank Carbone says Culinary Carnival will send a message to all. “Council is proud to be able to bring Culinary Carnival back to the city centre. Visitors are invited to explore the array of cuisines on offer while supporting local business,” he said. Once again a well class menu combined with headline entertainment will be the main fare. Culinary Carnival is a major economic driver to revitalise the city centre. If you want to promote your café or restaurant with food tasting or lift the profile of your business during this festival, contact events@fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au or 9725 0288.
