MAYOR’S MESSAGE Frank Carbone
Fairfield Showground has been a vital centre for COVID testing
We all face the ongoing challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and I know many in the community are doing it particularly tough. I’m thankful to our residents for following the Public Health Orders, getting tested and getting vaccinated. Your good work has helped start to turn the corner in our City where COVID was threatening to overwhelm us. Over the past few months, I have lobbied for more testing clinics and vaccination hubs in our City and for more choice of COVID-19 vaccines. I wrote to the State Government pushing for a targeted support package for businesses in our City who have borne the brunt of all the restrictions for a long time. I’m proud of how Council has adapted quickly to provide support to our community. Council has redeployed staff to cook and deliver meals to families in need, delivered library items to households and kept our outdoor open spaces maintained for people to stay healthy during lockdowns. While attending to the crisis at hand, Council has also been continuing its innovative program of works to ensure we meet the future needs of our community. This financial year Council is investing more than $60 million on infrastructure, including major works on sporting and recreation facilities, footpaths and play equipment throughout the City.
The Wave Pool at Aquatopia has been filled with water
Upcoming highlights include bringing the beach and surf to residents with a new 55-metre wave pool at Aquatopia, a new pavilion as part of the Fairfield Showground redevelopment, a fitness super park at Canley Heights and significant open space upgrades at Carrawood Park, Bareena Park, and Fairfield Heights Park. We are doing this and a lot more while keeping rates among the lowest in Sydney. The challenge of COVID is still with us, but I’m committed to getting on with the job of making Fairfield City a great place to live, work and raise a family, while supporting local families and the economy. I will not stop advocating for our City. We have all done a great job in suppressing the virus in our community. Council has also set up the Mayor’s Wellbeing Register to support the community during this difficult time. I encourage residents to register themselves, or someone they know who is vulnerable, isolated or in need of physical or mental support by calling Council on 9725 0222 or visiting www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/MayorsWellbeingRegister. Together we will get through this.

Endeavour Sports Park
1.
There is no doubt that following the significant upgrade of sporting facilities at Fairfield Showground and other locations across the City, our community expects the best sporting fields. Council has begun planning on upgrading the popular and well used Endeavour Sports Park in Fairfield West to make it a high level grass roots sports precinct. The upgrade will mean there is something for everyone with a wider range of sporting activities able to take place as well as ensuring existing users also benefit from improved facilities. In addition to upgrading the grassed playing areas and netball courts, Council is considering investment in features such as a synthetic football pitch, multi-purpose sport courts, upgrade of the amenities building and clubhouse and improved lighting. The improvements could also include upgrades to the car park, outdoor gym equipment and bicycle and walking paths.
