It has been great to see so many families enjoying this fantastic facility recreating an authentic beach experience without the long drives and expense of a beach getaway. If you haven’t already checked out what the hype is about, it’s open on weekends between September and April, as well as every day throughout the school holidays. Head to fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/Aquatopia to book online. Planning is underway for a number of exciting projects happening around the City including upgrades to a number of parks and playgrounds. Significant upgrades to Cabravale Memorial Park in Cabramatta, Avenel Street Park and Bareena Park in Canley Vale, Carrawood Park in Carramar, Endeavour Sports Park in Fairfield West, and Fairfield Heights Park are just some of the projects we can look forward to. We want each of these spaces to offer innovative and accessible features for families to enjoy that are within walking or a short drive distance. These improvements underline how important open spaces are to our community and that’s why we are investing more than $7.9 million on improvements to our open spaces over the next year. Nominations are now open for Council’s 2023 Australia Day Community Awards. If you know someone that dedicates their time and effort into making Fairfield City a better place, visit fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/australiadayawards to nominate them now.

Two signature events – Culinary Carnival and Cabramatta Moon Festival made a prepandemic style comeback this year and did not disappoint, with headline celebrated chefs and entertainment attracting thousands of visitors to our city centres. As well as showcasing our vibrant cultures and thriving food scene, our major events contribute to the liveability of our City, and add to our sense of community and belonging. Stay tuned as details of our premier New Year’s Eve event Illuminate are released in October. Later this month, we reopen Aquatopia for the 2022-2023 season. Last year we welcomed 55,000 visitors through the turnstiles. Our new 55-metre Wave Pool attraction, along with more cabanas and umbrellas brings a much-needed taste of the beach to our doorstep.
The last 18 months have been some of the busiest and most productive in our City’s history, marking the exciting return of Council’s major events program, and the delivery of high quality infrastructure and services for the community.

INVESTING IN OUR ROADS AND FOOTPATHS
Council conducts regular audits of the road network to make sure our roads are maintained and has an ongoing program of maintenance and renewal. In the next year we will also invest $4.4 million on 12.9km of new and upgraded footpaths in both business and residential areas. To see all the footpaths and roads we will be doing work on this financial year visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/footpathsandroads.
Council has a full time maintenance team that renews our roads and footpaths, but you also can let us know of any problems by visiting www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/Your-Council/Report-It or by phoning 9725 0222. Please turn the page for more Major Projects updates
We have more than 700km of roads across our city that are some of the busiest in Sydney and we want them to be as safe as possible, which is why we invest about $14 million a year into our local roads.

Upgrade works are continuing at Fairfield Golf Course Detention Basin, located between Fairfield Golf Course and Fairfield Showground in Prairiewood. Due to the current basin’s age and design, the works are essential to help ensure the community’s safety, and to protect property in the event of future flooding. Upcoming schedule of works include reconstruction of the embankment which includes: • Removal of existing vegetation, including trees • Deconstructing the existing embankment and constructing temporary flood protection works • Reconstructing embankments using re-engineered material, including installation of underground services. During extreme rain events, detention basins collect rainwater and slowly release it into our creek system, which allows them more time to empty when they are overwhelmed. The Fairfield Golf Course Detention Basin can hold up to 240,000 cubic metres of water which eventually makes its way into Prospect Creek in Canley Vale. For more information about the project contact Council on 9725 0222 or head to www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/FGC-detentionbasin-upgrade. Fairfield Golf Course Detention Basin

UntilRE-MEMBER29October 2022 re-member is an exhibition that gathers artists with ancestral threads stitched within the SWANA (South West Asia North Africa) region. Eight artists share their practices of ancestral re-membrance and embodied knowledge in a collection of newly commissioned artworks, inviting audiences to re-member alongside them. The exhibition includes experimental sound and video works, collaborations between artists and their families and communities, poetry presented as visual work, meditative drawings and sculptural installations based on the stories of the eight collaborating artists.
