letter from the president of the board of trustees Fairfield Country Day, she has earned the deep respect of her colleagues, parents and students. It is her guidance — and the support of newly elevated Associate Head of School Maureen Bartolomeo and Director of Health Services Julie Seymour — that has made it possible for a successful, full-time opening this fall.
Dear FCDS community, The last several months have been a remarkable time at Fairfield Country Day School and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through the pandemic. Despite many challenges, we remain undeterred and committed to our mission. We distinguished our School during the pandemic. Our faculty sacrificed their spring break to build an engaging and rigorous Remote Learning Program from the ground up, reinforcing our commitment to relational learning — an ethos which simply does not exist in other quarters of education. Lab experiments, public speaking presentations, ukulele lessons, physical fitness challenges, and watercolor paintings carried on through the spring from the safety of each boy’s home. The Class of 2020 graduates were celebrated, received their diplomas in the Loop, and were recognized for their accomplishments, resilience, and leadership. Our faculty didn’t stop there. Teachers and the FCDS administration spent the entire summer innovating and planning to make sure our School opened this September in a safe and productive manner. The boys are thrilled to be back on Blair Field and in the classrooms, and the faculty and staff are equally happy to see our families participating in the School’s safety protocols with a positive attitude. This has been an enormously difficult year, but we are all so lucky that Fairfield Country Day School can be a bright spot in all of our lives. We are also extraordinarily fortunate to have Margot Pearce as our 12th Head of School. Margot was installed in the position in June of this year after demonstrating impressive leadership throughout her tenure at the School. Over her fourteen years at
Our goal for this school year is simple: provide our boys with a safe and productive education on campus or remotely, if it becomes necessary, and preserve what is uniquely FCDS. Our community, led by our dedicated faculty, has risen to the challenge. Fairfield Country Day School has enormous momentum right now and I thank each of you for your support and contributions. As you turn to the pages ahead, you will see that for the fifth consecutive year, the Annual Fund has benefited from 100% participation from parents, faculty and staff, and trustees. It is your dedication and generous spirit that has a direct influence on life at FCDS. Thank you for your continued partnership with Fairfield Country Day School. We look forward to seeing where Margot and our faculty lead us next. Lastly, as I step down as President, I am thrilled to pass the baton to Rob Russo as our new President of the Board or Trustees. As many of you know, Rob is a product of our FCDS program: an alumnus, successful attorney, and parent of two boys in the third grade. If you ever wonder what relational learning is, look no further. It is directed, customized education that creates productive citizens who love our School. I will remain in the far wings, but Rob’s thoughtful leadership will be instrumental in our next steps. On we go, Country Day! With gratitude,

the bronson society While every gift made to Fairfield Country Day School celebrates a spirit of generosity, the members of our leadership giving circles, The Bronson Society, exemplify a unique passion and commitment to the mission and vision of our School. In recognition of our top donors, The Bronson Society is our most prestigious donor recognition category, honoring the leadership and extraordinary support of those who give an annual gift of $5,000 or more. FCDS gratefully applauds these benefactors at our annual November celebration, The Bronson Society Reception.

bronson award recipients
the 2019 bronson award Leadership, involvement, and personal resources distinguish each Bronson Award recipient and like those recipients honored in years past, Annie Zimmerli-Haskel and Jim Haskel show their dedication to our School daily. The Haskels joined the FCDS community in 2009 when their son Sam ’19 started Kindergarten. Annie joined the Board of Trustees in 2016 and has served on the Wellness, Governance, and Marketing committees and became Secretary of the Board in 2019. Over the past 11 years, Annie has helped to foster FCDS’ wellness initiative by using her expertise as a child psychologist to host meetings for parents on childhood development. In addition to the time and talent that the Haskels have given to FCDS, they were generous supporters of the 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign, the John R. Munro, Jr. Scholarship Fund, and the Annual Fund. “The Haskels have always leaned into and believed in the Fairfield Country Day experience,” explains Patrick Shaw, Board President. We thank Annie and Jim for their commitment to FCDS and their unwavering support.

paige ’62 legacy fund The Paige ’62 Legacy Fund is an endowed fund that provides financial resources to allow our faculty and staff to take advantage of a wide range of professional development opportunities. The fund is named after retired Head of Upper School and FCDS alum Cliff Paige. This fund celebrates our graduates and recognizes the legacy that they leave behind. For this reason, it is tradition for the parents of the ninth grade class to make their Annual Fund contribution to the Paige ’62 Legacy Fund.

2020 fundraiser This year’s tailgate was a true touchdown! It was a night of cornhole competitions, leaderboards, and school spirit. Over 150 parents, faculty, and fans of Fairfield Country Day School huddled at the Patterson Country Club on February 1 for the Super Blue Saturday — Tailgate & Dinner Party fundraiser hosted by the Parents’ Association. The big win was quarterbacked by committee chairs Trish Block and Kim Meier with the help of their awesome varsity volunteer team. The positive energy translated into a significant score for FCDS with net proceeds reaching over $151,000. The paddle raise portion of the evening generated over $34,000. Thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, bid, and attended! Your all-star support of FCDS is a true testament to our community. GO BLUE! FCDS | 2019-2020 | With Gratitude 15
