Birds of Fairfield

Las aves de Fairfield

Foreword

T

his list of birds was compiled from observations of the Fairfield University’s Ornithology class over the past two decades and includes resident and migrant birds seen on campus and those likely to migrate through when class is not in session. Anne Panos ’22 assembled the list and prepared the guide. The Fairfield University campus is located in an area with abundant and diverse bird life. Birds such as the Osprey and migrating Common Loon are sometimes seen overhead even though they are likely rarely physically on campus. Many birds on the list are seen less frequently on campus than they once were, such as the Brown Thrasher, due to changing patterns of land use on campus and brush clearing that removed habitat. We must all recognize the role of habitat and do what we can to be good stewards to keep our local birds that we share the area with from being lost. L
