Through
Belonging we Thrive
Our Individuality
Our Strengths Lie in Our Differences
Fairfield University believes that when people feel valued, respected, and empowered, they work together for the common good. When each unique point of view is heard, honored, and celebrated, true learning begins.
in·di·vid·u·al·i·ty (noun) in-d - vi-j - wa-l -té
The quality or character of a person that distinguishes them from others.
Who We Are As a modern Jesuit Catholic University, Fairfield was built on the principles of outreach and social justice and a 500-year tradition dedicated to the life-transforming power of education. Following a call and mission to serve, Jesuits often established academic institutions in under-served communities that were otherwise ostracized and denied access to education. In 1942, Fairfield’s founding allowed the Jesuits to better serve the growing immigrant population in Connecticut’s urban centers. Today, we remember this call and hold fast to our mission to serve all members of our community.
Do More. Learn More. Share More.
We are listening. We are learning. We are the change.
Our Community
Creating a Culture of Belonging
Fairfield empowers students to work together to build community, lead ethically, and value differences in one another. Whether on or off campus, we always strive to integrate intellect with action for justice.
On Campus The Office of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs collaborates with faculty and student organizations to develop programs, services, and activities that embrace multiculturalism, inspire social justice, and foster an inclusive living and learning community for everyone. The Center for Social Impact utilizes community engaged learning and research to connect our campus with the broader world. The Humanitarian Action Immersion Program is composed of internships, co-curricular activities, student led groups, and immersion trips created to raise awareness and take compassionate action.

Our Charge
When we inquire, debate, and discern what is both common and different, we become wiser, stronger, and better prepared for the world.
Fairfield University has many programs and resources that support students of every background, and yet our work in this area continues to grow. Below are just a few examples of the way our students and faculty have already broken down barriers by creating real change.
Presidential Working Group on Inclusive Excellence Made up of more than 15 faculty and staff members representing multiple campus departments, the Presidential Working Group was founded by University President Mark R. Nemec, PhD, to support and provide radical hospitality to diverse populations through teaching, learning, scholarship, and service.
Alumni of Color Network This dedicated network of alumni hosts a variety of educational, professional, and social programs throughout the year with the goal of supporting and cultivating personal and professional connections for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Stags during and after their time at Fairfield.
Pathways to Education As a Jesuit Catholic institution, Fairfield University is committed to providing under-represented students with pathways to higher learning, especially those from diverse communities and those who may be the first in their families to attend college. Through a variety of learning, mentoring, and service opportunities, we continue to develop innovative pathways that empower students with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to achieve their aspirations and become individuals of purpose.
Diversity and Inclusion is not just an office, it is a philosophy and a priority.
Diversity in Action How does Fairfield University demonstrate its commitment to #StagDiversityInAction? By encouraging dialogue, communication, community partnerships, and a culture of understanding.
