Anna-Maria Aksan, PhD, associate professor of economics, published a blog post with Cambridge University Press related to her recent publication on sex selection and demographic change in India. Nazli Sila Alan, PhD, assistant professor of finance, had her paper “Firm-Level Cybersecurity Risk and Idiosyncratic Volatility,” with coauthors Ahmet K. Karagozoglu and Tianpeng Zhou of Hofstra University, accepted for publication in the Journal of Portfolio Management. Dr. Alan also wrote a feature for WalletHub on credit card consolidation.

Bardos, PhD, had their research featured on The FinReg Blog published by Duke University School of Law Global Financial Markets Center, and also on The World Economic Forum. Their paper “CEO-toEmployee Pay Ratio and CEO Diversity” was also accepted for publication in Managerial Finance. The paper is co-authored with Natalya Y. Shelkova.

Katsiaryna Salavei Bardos, PhD,

associate professor of finance, published an article in Canadian Business Journal titled “Corporate Social Responsibility: Improving Firm Value Through Enhanced Brand Value.” The article is co-authored with Mine Ertugrul and Lucia Gao.

Dr. Bardos, Steven Kozlowski, PhD,

and Michael Puleo, PhD, published a post entitled “Entrenchment or Efficiency? CEO-to-Employee Pay Ratio and the Cost of Debt” on Columbia Law School’s Blog on Corporations and the Capital Markets.

Paul Caster, PhD, CPA, published the article “An Exploration of Bank Confirmation Process Automation: A Longitudinal Study,” in the Journal of Information Systems, with coauthors Randy Elder and Diane Janvrin.

Michael P. Coyne, PhD, CPA, MBA,

associate professor of accounting, had his paper “Comparing and Contrasting the History of the Euro with the History of Accounting Convergence” accepted for publication in the Journal of Accounting and Finance. Ahmed Ebrahim, PhD, CPA, CMA, associate professor of accounting, published his research paper “The Substance and Form of Islamic Finance Instruments: An Accounting Perspective“ in the Journal of Islamic Accounting and Business Research.

Helena Glebocki Keefe, PhD, assistant professor of economics, published her article titled “The Transmission of Global Monetary and Credit Shocks on Exchange Market Pressure in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies” in the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions, and Money. Steven Kozlowski, PhD, assistant professor of finance, had his paper “Discretionary Loan Loss Provisioning and Bank Stock Returns: The Role of Economic Booms and Busts” accepted for publication in the Journal of Banking & Finance. The paper is coauthored with Shantaram Hegde.

Dr. Kozlowski and Michael Puleo,

PhD, had their paper “Cryptocurrency Return Reversals” accepted for publication in Applied Economics Letters. The paper is coauthored with Jizhou Zhou. Drs. Kozlowski and Puleo also published their articles “Financial Distress, Corporate Takeovers, and the Distress Anomaly” and “Asymmetric Information and Opportunism in Insider Share-Pledging” in Managerial Finance. Mark LeClair, PhD, professor of economics, had his article entitled, “For College Finances, There’s No ‘Return to Normal’” published in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Joan Lee, PhD, CPA, CGMA, professor of accounting, published, “The Theranos Whistleblower: An Interview with Tyler Shultz,” with co-authors Ann Skeet of Markkula Center of Santa Clara University and Sarah Cabral of Boston College as part of the Jesuit Global Case Series. Dr. Lee also received the American Accounting Association Public Interest Section Outstanding Service Award at the section’s annual meeting. Additionally, she published “A New Paradigm for Introductory Accounting Education at Jesuit Business Schools” in Journal of Jesuit Business Education.

Dr. Lee and Dawn W. Massey, PhD,

had their chapter, “Putting Ethical Dilemmas on Students’ ‘RADAR’” published in Accounting Ethics Education: Making Ethics Real. Valeria Martinez, PhD, associate professor of finance, had her paper “The Impact of the Change in USDA Announcement Release Procedures on Agricultural Commodity Futures,” with co-authors Ivan Indriawan and Yiuman Tse, accepted for publication in Journal of Commodity Markets.

Dawn W. Massey, PhD, CPA, CGMA,

professor of accounting, published a peerreviewed chapter, “Exposing the Political Chameleon: Insights Into Canadian Taxpayers’ Perceptions of Tax Fairness” in Who Pays for Canada? Taxes and Fairness, with coauthors Jonathan Farrar and Linda Thorne. Dr. Massey also had her paper previously published in the Journal of Business Ethics, “The Association Between Vertical Equity and Presidential Voting Behavior and Taxpayers’ Compliance,” featured in “How Trump’s Tax Avoidance Ways Could be Rubbing Off on U.S. Voters,” which was published in Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. Dr. Massey’s coauthors on the research paper are Jonathan Farrar and Linda Thorne.

Philip Maymin, PhD, professor of analytics and director of the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program, was

awarded a patent for application number 16/440,382 with his co-inventor Brett McDonald, titled “System and Method for Using Artificial Intelligence to Create Live, Mobile, Betting System Offering TimeSensitive, Curated and Player-Restricted Bets on Sub-Outcomes of Sports and Esport Events.” Dr. Maymin also had his article, “Smart Kills and Worthless Deaths: eSports Analytics for League of Legends” published in the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports. He also had his paper “Cognitive Biases and Mindfulness” with Ellen Langer accepted for publication in Nature: Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, and his paper “Using Scouting Reports Text To Predict NCAA → NBA Performance” accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Analytics. Harvard Magazine also published a profile on his “Better Than Better” research with Ellen Langer, and their article was published on Thrive Global. Lastly, he had their paper “Life, Liberty, and Lockdowns” published in the peer-reviewed STEM volume “COVID-19: A Complex Systems Approach.” Sharlene McEvoy, JD, PhD, professor of business law, presented a paper entitled, “Right to Dry Laws: Protecting the Environment over Aesthetic Considerations,” at the online Annual Conference of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, Environment, Energy, and Sustainability Law section. The paper was also published in The Journal of Management and Public Policy. Dr. McEvoy also published an article entitled, “Splitting Hairs Over Hairstyles: A Form of Racial Bias or Enforceable Grooming Policies?” in the International Journal of Business and Applied Social Science. Her article “Curbing the Pollution of the Night: The Problem of Light Pollution” was also accepted for publication in the Journal of Urban Studies and Public Administration. Lastly, Dr. McEvoy published her article entitled “Using a Hypothetical Case To Teach About Supreme Court Decision-Making,” in the International Journal of Social Science and Human Research.

Kathi Mettler, CPA, director of graduate accounting programs, was featured as an industry expert on Zippia.com for the article “Predicting the Future of the Job Market.” Michael Puleo, PhD, assistant professor of finance, was featured in a Bloomberg article showcasing his research focus, “Implosion of High-Flying Billionaire Trio Shows Pledging Risks.” He also published his article entitled, “Corporate Social Media Engagement and Stock Volatility” in Empirical Economics Letters.

Rajasree Rajamma, PhD, associate professor of marketing, along with her co-authors Dr. Qin Sun and Dr. Deborah Heisley, presented their paper “Exploring Scarcity in Mobile Promotion and Immediate Purchase Intention” at the 2020 Global Marketing Conference in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Rajamma also had her paper “Flipping the Script: Consumers’ Propensity for SelfMedication,” with co-authors Audhesh K. Paswan and Lou E. Pelton, accepted for publication in Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice. David Schmidt, associate professor of management and director of the Waide Center for Applied Ethics, was interviewed for the article, “Mapping the Performance Principle: A Guide to Understanding What Makes a Leader,” in Atlantic Business magazine. Nazuk Sharma, PhD, assistant professor of marketing, had her paper “The Impact of Using Negative Versus Positive Karma Framing in Donation Appeals at Grocery Checkouts on the Facilitating Store’s Outcomes” accepted for publication in the Journal of Consumer Behavior. William Vásquez, PhD, professor of economics, in collaboration with Jessica Alicea-Planas, PhD, associate professor of public health and Jennifer Trudeau, PhD, published a research article entitled “The Value of Covid-19 Tests in Latin America” in Economics and Human Behavior.

Ying Zhang, PhD, associate professor of finance, had his paper “The Asymmetric Online Talk Effect” accepted by Review of Behavioral Finance. Fairfield University’s Charles F.
