FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FAIRWAY MARKET IN WESTBURY TO HELP FEED THE HUNGRY PARTNERSHIP WITH LONG ISLAND CARES DURING OPENING WEEK WILL BRING FOOD AND MONETARY DONATIONS TO ONE OF THE AREA’S MOST COMPREHENSIVE HUNGER ACTION ORGANIZATIONS (August, 2012) Fairway Market (www.fairwaymarket.com) and Long Island Cares,(www.licares.org) the hunger action organization, will partner through Fairway’s newest store opening to benefit the thousands of area residents who have been devastated by the hard economic downturn and now find themselves in need of food and services. Beginning on opening day, Wednesday, August 22, 2012, and through the end of Fairway Market’s first week in Westbury, shoppers can purchase specific items that will be scanned at the register and designated for delivery to Long Island Care’s headquarters. In addition, outside Fairway Market on August 22nd there will be volunteers selling T-shirts decorated by a graffiti artist for $5.50 each. All the proceeds will go to Long Island Cares, which supports more than 540 member agencies. Charles Santoro, Chairman of Fairway Market, said that supporting causes and organizations that make a difference in the lives of area residents has always been integral to Fairway Market’s mission. Fairway Market is renowned for its incredible selection of traditional, organic and specialty foods as well as for its commitment to giving back to the communities it serves. “We have been involved with Long Island Cares since we opened our Plainview store in 2001 and this opening week partnership with the Westbury Fairway Market provides another opportunity to demonstrate how much we value our neighbors,” said Santoro. “We will continue to donate thousands of pounds of food each year to local food banks through this outstanding organization.” “Long Island Cares is very proud to partner with Fairway Market and we’re very excited to join them in celebrating the opening of their newest location in Westbury,” said Paule Pachter, Executive Director. “Fairway has been a very generous supporter of Long Island’s regional food bank and their support has enabled us to help the nearly 320,000 Long Islanders who are impacted by hunger and food insecurity. I look forward to joining them on August 22nd and at the grand opening celebration in Westbury and know that the community will join us to support their neighbors in need.”
