TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT METRO STATION / SOCIAL HUB JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA IN URBAN PLANNING, A TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT IS A TYPE OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT THAT MAXIMIZES THE AMOUNT OF RESIDENTIAL, BUSINESS AND LEISURE SPACE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT. IN DOING SO, TOD AIMS TO INCREASE PUBLIC TRANSPORT RIDERSHIP BY REDUCING THE USE OF PRIVATE CARS AND BY PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE URBAN GROWTH. A TOD TYPICALLY INCLUDES A CENTRAL TRANSIT STOP (SUCH AS A TRAIN STATION, OR LIGHT RAIL OR BUS STOP) SURROUNDED BY A HIGH-DENSITY MIXED-USE AREA, WITH LOWER-DENSITY AREAS SPREADING OUT FROM THIS CENTER. A TOD IS ALSO TYPICALLY DESIGNED TO BE MORE WALKABLE THAN OTHER BUILT-UP AREAS, THROUGH USING SMALLER BLOCK SIZES AND REDUCING THE LAND AREA DEDICATED TO AUTOMOBILES

HUD INNOVATION COMPETITION 2019 RESEARCH / PROJECT LAWRENCE, KS, UNITED STATES THE HUD INNOVATION IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPETITION HAPPENS EVERY YEAR AND THE GOAL OF THIS COMPETITION IS TO CREATE AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPLEX AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO SHOW THAT IT COULD BE ACHIEVED. MY GROUP AND I RECIEVED SEMI-FINALIST STAGE AND CREATED A HOUSING COMPLEX THAT HAD A UNIVERSITY RESEARCH SPACE THAT RENTED OUT PART OF THE COMPLEX AND WOULD FUND THE OVERALL HOUSING PROJECT. WITH THIS CONCEPT IN MIND WE WOULD WORK IN TANDOM WITH THE RESEARCH GROUP AND CREAT UNIT THAT HAD SMART TECHNOLOGY AND APPLY FLOOR SENSORS SO RESEARCHERS CAN USE THIS INFORMATION IN THEIR STUDIES.

HOUSING LAB PROTOTYPE RESEARCH / PROJECT LAWRENCE, KS, UNITED STATES THIS PROJECT IS PART OF GRADUATE RESEARCH STUDY THAT LOOKS TO CREATE A HOUSING PROTOYPE TO GATHER INFORMATION AND STUDY HOW GAIT ANALYSIS SENSORS CAN BE USED TO ANALYZE EARLY SIGNS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE AND OR TREMORS. DURING THIS SEMESTER WE WORKED ON THE ADDITION OF SMART TECHNONOGY TO THE HOUSING UNIT AND WE DID THIS BY WORKING WITH A COMPANY CALLED HOMEBASE WHO SPECIALIZE IN CREATING AN ECOSYSTEM OF TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN BE CONTROLLED THROUGH A PHONE APP. IN COLLABORATION WE ARE WORKING ON CREATING AN INTERFACE THAT CAN BE USED IN SENIOR HOUSING TO CREATE A SAFER ENVIROMENT FOR SENIOR THAT MAY LIVE BY THEMSELVES.

OTOLARYNGOLOGY HOSPITAL LARGE-SCALE (120 BED) JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA THE TASK WAS TO DESIGN A LARGE-SCALE OTOLARYNGOLOGY HOSPITAL WITH ITS FACILITIES. THE LOCATION OF THE PROJECT IS IN JEDDAH, THE WEST COAST OF SAUDI ARABIA. THE MAIN FOCUS OF THIS PROJECT IS RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CONNECTION AND THE RELATION BETWEEN THE DEFFERINT SPACES INSIDE A HOSPITAL. ALSO, KNOWING MORE ABOUT THE DEFFFERENT FUNCTIONS FOR EACH SECTION IN A HOSPITAL AND THE CIRCULATION BETWEEN THEM, WHICH WOULD GIVE A SOLID CLEARITY WHILE MAKING ANY ARCHITECTURAL DECISION. THE HOSPITAL HAS 120 BED IN IT, WITH CLININCS, ER, LABS, AND ICU. THE STYLE OF THE HOSPITAL MATCHES THE LOCAL STYLE AT THE OLD HISTORICAL CITY IN JEDDAH

MIXED-USE BUILDING RESIDENTIAL / COMMERCIAL LAWRENCE, KS, UNITED STATES THE BUILDING IS PART OF A HUGE URBN DEVELOPMENT NEAR LAWRENCE RIVER. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BUILDING COMES FROM ITS LOCATION. IT IS THE FIRST BUILDING YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU GO THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN THE RETAIL AREA AND THE RESIDENTIAL AREA. THEREFORE, THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDING HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO BE AS A GATE FOR THE RESIDENTIAL AREA, AND TO GIVE THE USERS, EITHER THE RESIDENTS OR THE OTHER USERS, A DECENT VIEW BY FACING THE LAWRENCE RIVER.

ZERO-NET ENERGY BUILDING COMPANY HEADQUARTER JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA DESPITE THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF SOLAR ENERGY ALL OVER SAUDI ARABIA, THIS VALUABLE SOURCE HAS BEEN ABANDONED FOR A LONG TIME . THEREFORE, THE AIM OF THIS TASK WAS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THE ZERO-NET ENERGY BUILDINGS, AND TO USE THIS KNOWLEDGE TO GUIDE US DESIGNING A ZERO-NET ENERGY BUILDING AS A HEADQUARTER OF A LOCAL COMPANY. SEVERAL ENERGY SOURCES HAVE BEEN APPLIED IN THE PROJECT TO ACHIEVE THE ZERO-NET ENERGY BUILDING CONCEPT AMONG THE WIND POWER AND THE SOLAR POWER.

PASSIVE COOLING TECHNIQUES THESE DIAGRAMS ON THE PLAN AND THE SECTION TO SHOW THE AIR CIRCULATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT SPACES INSIDE THE BUILDING. AT THE BEGINING, THE AIR WILL BE DRAGGED FROM OUTSIDE THE BUILDING BY USING WIND CATCHERS. THEN, IT WILL GO THROUGH COOLING PROCESS UNTIL IT REACHS A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE. AFTER THAT, THE COLD AIR WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FROM THE CORE OF THE BUILDING TO ALL THE OTHER SPACES BY HUGE FANS. AFTER THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AIR CHANGE AND BECOME WARM, THE AIR WILL BE PUSHED AWAY THROUGH THE AIR DUCT TO THE OUTSIDE AND REUSE IT AGAIN.

COMPLEX BUILDING RESIDENTIAL / COMMERCIAL JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN THIS PROJECT WAS TO DEAL WITH THE BUILDING REGULATIONS THAT DOES NOT ALLOW TO HAVE WINDOWS OR ANY OPENINGS ON THE SIDES OF THE BUILDING. THEREFORE, AS AN ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THIS CASE, AN OPENING ATRIUM AT THE CENTER OF THE BUILDING AND SHAFTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BUILDING WERE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE NATURAL LIGHTING AND AIR VENTILATION. ALSO, DUE TO THE BUILDING REGULATIONS IN THE AREA, THE BUILDING WAS RESTRICTED TO HAVE ONLY ONE ELEVATION. THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNED TO HAVE TWO RESIDENTIAL UNITS : APARTMENT, TWO-LEVEL VILLA, AND A SMALL SHOP IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING.

HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTER THERAPISTS & HEALTH COACHES LAWRENCE, KS, UNITED STATES THE TASK WAS TO DESIGN A HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER WITH ITS FACILITIES. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS BUILDING COMES FROM ITS LOCATION AS A CORNER SITE. IT IS SIGNIFICANT LOCATION AS PART OF THE STREET LEVEL EXPERIENCE. THEREFORE, THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDING HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO CREATE A GATEWAY FOR DOWNTOWN LAWRENCE THROUGH THE HIERARCHY OF THE HEIGHTS OF THE BUILDINGS LOCATED ON MASS STREET, AND REINFORCING THE VALUE OF THE HISTORICAL BUILDINGS BY ORIENTING THE ROOF OF THE BUILDING TO BE REACHING OUT TO THEM DIRECTLY.
