Acts of Faith
JAN 2019
We are a family of faith, sharing God’s love in a spirit of hope.
2019 Theme: WELCOME Welcome to our World was our theme for Advent as we prepared to welcome the Christ child into our hearts and lives, which was just the beginning of a year-long journey to welcome all those around us to join with us. Our theme for 2019 will be “Welcome” and each month we will focus on a particular group or idea to welcome. January’s emphasis is Welcome Home.
Coming Home to Faith We will welcome back those who have been absent from our fellowship, making certain that all our members are welcome in their home church, at a special service and catered lunch on Sunday, January 27. We will have printed invitations available starting Sunday, January 6, for you to hand out so start thinking about who you want to personally invite. Look for more information about this exciting event as it gets closer!
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activities will begin on Saturday, January 19, with a breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The featured speaker is Pam McMichael, a leader of the KY Poor People’s Campaign. Faith has reserved a table for the breakfast. If you would like to attend, contact Sharon Felton as soon as possible. The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children. On Monday, January 21, the MLK Day march will begin on College Street at 4 p.m., preceded by a meet and greet in the Cralle Student Center Lounge at Georgetown College at 3:30 p.m. The program is at 5 p.m. in John L. Hill Chapel at Georgetown College, featuring Rev. Dr. Dwight Webster as the speaker. The activities are sponsored by the city and county governments, NAACP, and Georgetown College.
Words from our Interim Pastor When I was a teenager I was a part of a mission team to the Congo. Our flight was delayed and we arrived early one morning considerably behind schedule. What we discovered was a group of Congolese Christians who had waited all night to greet our mission team. We were welcomed by a Congolese choir who met our plane on the tarmac with a stirring rendition of the Hallelujah chorus performed in English. We were deeply moved by the extraordinary expression of hospitality. The theme our church staff has adopted for 2019 is “Welcome.” The Scriptures are clear in their call for the church to extend hospitality to those around us. Paul appeals to the Roman church, “Practice hospitality.” Peter echoes, “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling” and the Hebrews writer encourages, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” And Jesus stressed, “I was a stranger and you invited me in.” The God In Christ who has welcomed us all in His love and grace has called His church to be a welcoming people. We are to be God’s “Welcome” sign to the world!

Mark January 27 on your calendar. On this Sunday we will have a day to welcome home our church family. Our worship time will be followed with a catered fellowship meal and a time to share together as brothers and sisters in Christ. We want to give a special welcome back to all of our Faith family as we begin a new year together. It will be a kind of “homecoming” for folks with Faith connections. Thankful for this opportunity to journey with you!

Thank You from the Staff
We will kick off the new year with our monthly Senior Adult Lunch on Monday, January 21, at 11 a.m. -- come hungry! Continuing our food theme, please join us on Friday, January 25, as we head to Sapporo in Georgetown. We will gather around the grill to watch the chef prepare our lunch as he twirls his utensils and launches shrimp into his hat (a skill Chef Dale has not yet mastered). It has been an inspiration to see everyone gather around those who are suffering, in mourning, or fighting illness and in true Faith fashion and Christ-like hope, loving, supporting, and helping them. —Dale
Thank you so very much for the generous and thoughtful Christmas gifts! It is such a privilege and blessing to serve alongside each one of you. We look forward to all that God has in store for our church in the coming year as we welcome our community to celebrate Christ with us!
Church Directory Distribution We have been working on updating our church directory and it is finally ready for distribution! This process took much longer than we anticipated and we appreciate your patience as we checked (and double-checked!) everything to make sure we have correct information and respect your sharing preferences. We will be sending the directory electronically, using proper security measures, in the first few weeks of January. If you would like a hard copy of the directory, please contact Angela in the office at 502-863-1537 or Angela@familfyoffaith.net. We would like to say a special thanks to Pat Blackburn, who has gone above and beyond to help with this project!
