Acts of Faith
2019
We are a family of faith, sharing God’s love in a spirit of hope.
KIDS’ NIGHT IN—PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT! With a four-day weekend on the calendar, plan to celebrate on Thursday, February 14! Our annual Parents’ Night Out will be that night at 6 p.m., with pick up no later than 9 p.m. We’ll be camping out (inside, of course) with an evening of pizza, a scavenger hunt, s’mores, popcorn, and a movie. Don’t miss it!
Wednesday night Children’s activities When Jesus told us to love our neighbors, he didn’t just mean the people next door. On Wednesday nights in February, we will get to know kids just like us in other countries and learn about missionaries who share God’s love around the world. On Wednesday, February 27, the children will have a CRAZY NIGHT called Glowing with Love. Wear a white shirt and we will spend our time under the blacklight playing games that glow!
J.O.Y. NEWS {February: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.} The weather outside was frightful in January, but hopefully it’s better for our senior adult lunch on Monday, February 18, at 11 a.m. Then come enjoy the warmth of fellowship, soup, and love songs on Friday, February 22, at 1 p.m. in the RA.1 Corinthians 16:14 says, "Let all that you do be done with love." That is what the JOY group does, every day, as we love and support those who are sick, grieving, and hurting, with open arms and helping hearts. —Dale
YOUTH NEWS We’ll have an all-youth lunch at MOD pizza after church on Sunday, February 10. Bring money! Parents, we will need help caravanning over. Then on February 23 we’re going to Perfect North! The cost depends on tubing or skiing. Parents, we need adult chaperones to make the trip! Contact Sharon to sign up! Mark your calendars for Extreme Build! On June 9-15 we will take a group to help build a house for a family in need in McCreary County. See Sharon for details.
We had a great day of fellowship and celebration on Sunday, January 27 at our special service and lunch! It was wonderful to see so many members and friends gathered together at our church home! We're very appreciative of the help provided by members and staff to prepare for the day and make it happen!
February: Welcome the WorlD In 2019, we want to be intentional about welcoming everyone around us to join us in welcoming Christ into our hearts and lives, so we have adopted WELCOME as our theme for the year. Each month we will focus on a particular group or idea to welcome. February’s emphasis is WELCOME THE WORLD. How can we embrace and care for all of God’s children, no matter their geographical location, culture, or belief system? What can we do to better understand global issues so we can be the hands and feet of Christ to everyone?
Update on Church Benevolence Cooperative with Transform Scott County After six months of our Benevolence Cooperative with other churches, we have been able to serve 154 people! In those numbers we have helped 90 families with children, which makes the number of children we have helped 227! We have helped people with rent, utilities, hotel rooms, gas for their vehicles, food and childcare. Every person is met with dignity and respect, every person is encouraged to meet with a mentor or new friend, and every person is shown the love of Christ in every encounter with our volunteers. Currently, we are scheduling appointments with people during the day on Wednesday and Thursday. If you have an hour or more that you could serve, please contact Sharon Felton. We need more female volunteers, but all are welcome! Every penny that you give to our monthly benevolence offering, collected on the first Sunday of the month, goes to help people in our community in need. Thank you for having the faith to help launch this new ministry in our community, and thank you for faithfully giving of your time and your money.

CBFKY Disaster response opportunities
pre-Extreme build volunteers needed
CBFKY is coordinating two upcoming disaster response opportunities. Calvary Baptist in Lexington is leading a team to North Carolina on February 17-22 to help families devastated by hurricane Florence. Then on March 3, CBFKY is offering basic disaster response training from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist in Frankfort. If you are interested in either of these opportunities, contact the church office.
On June 10-15, CBFKY will bring volunteers of all skill levels together to build a home for a family in need in McCreary County. Before the Extreme Build, however, is a pre-build for a smaller group of volunteers with construction and/or painting experience, as well as cooks. Faith is looking for 2-4 volunteers to participate in the prebuild on June 5-8. Contact the church office for more information.
Baptist Women in Ministry day Since 2007, Baptist Women In Ministry has promoted the Martha Stearns Marshall women’s month of preaching in February. This national emphasis is designed to provide congregations the opportunity to experience the gifts and talents of female preachers. Faith Baptist Church is a long-time participant in this effort, with the added benefit of tying this opportunity to our partnership with the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. This year, we welcome Scarlette Jasper into our pulpit on February 24. Scarlette is a student at BSK and serves as CBF Field Personnel in southeastern Kentucky in areas of persistent poverty.
