Acts of Faith
SEPT 2019
We are a family of faith, sharing God’s love in a spirit of hope.
Children: Creation Care On Wednesday nights in September and October, the children will be focusing on Creation Care. Through art, play, and Bible stories, they will learn about God’s creation and what they can do to care for the Earth and its people.

September 13-14 will be our Middle School Retreat! Our theme is “Shine your Light.” Bring friends! We’ll have Bible study and games at Faith, a scavenger hunt adventure, and end up at Malibu Jacks. The cost is $30. Sign up with Sharon. We’re going to lunch after worship on September 15! Bring money to eat at Mi Casita. Parents, we’ll need help carpooling after church. Let Sharon know if you can help.
Words from William Conversations on LGBTQIA inclusion have been taking place throughout Christian churches and at Faith for several years. A few years ago Faith passed a resolution stating that all, no matter what sexual orientation or gender identity, were welcome in worship. This was a significant step in hospitality that showed all voices were welcome at the table. However, the church is still undecided on the question of the use of the church for LGBTQIA weddings and if the ministers have individual autonomy to perform LGBTQIA weddings. These questions came to the forefront in June with my hire, making it clear that we need to have a conversation about it. While this conversation can become divisive, Faith has a long history of thoughtful dialogue that strives for oneness, not just sameness. Whether it be ordaining women, accepting African Americans and Africans, or welcoming divorcees, Faith has time and again shown we can handle tough conversations. Since June, several of you have expressed uncertainty on how you feel. People are asking lots of good questions. To begin helping us process these questions, we have compiled a resource list comprised of books, blogs, podcasts, and videos. These resources offer a variety of opinions and perspectives and are meant to help you begin to process different views about the church and LGBTQIA inclusion. They will not answer all of your questions, but might help us begin to approach them thoughtfully. These resources help us work toward the ultimate goal of grasping for a faith that can accommodate a variety of theological positions on this topic, acknowledging that Christians might disagree on these matters, but still be Christians and part of the same family. To clarify, there has not been a request for a wedding and a vote on this is not imminent. I merely hope that we can begin thoughtful prayer and study so that we are ready when the time comes to discuss and vote. This conversation should not be our only focus, but it also cannot be ignored. We must approach this question as a family, with Godly love and a hopeful spirit. I am confident that, just like in the past, having this conversation will only make us stronger.

I am heading for the state of oHIo. I’m gonna leave Kentucky “y’all,” and go with “you guys” – or the Kentucky Cardinals for the oHIo Buckeyes. I will be with Daughter Dana Dale, while considering Assisted Living – keeping my condo until a decision is reached. Thanks to each one receiving this for all your help and kindnesses to me all these years. You are loved!
