MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH We are a family of faith, sharing God’s love in a spirit of hope.

FALL FESTIVAL

WEBSITE

We’re heading out to the Tudor’s farm again this year for our Fall Festival at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 27! We will spend time together having fun with a hot dog dinner, bonfire, s’mores, hayride, and crafts! Bring a pumpkin for pumpkin decorating! You won’t want to miss being out in God’s beautiful creation and enjoying a wondrous fall sunset. The farm is located at 880 Duvall Station Road.

The wait is over. Our redesigned website has launched! Go to familyoffiaith.net and see how great it looks. The website is a great tool for finding information about the church, giving online, seeing recent newsletters, and so much more. Also, stay tuned throughout the year as we roll out new features to better enhance our communication.

Not sure how to get there? Meet at the church at 4:30 p.m. and we’ll caravan to the farm. We will also be taking the bus for those who don’t want to drive.

CHILDREN THERE’S NO PLANET B! The children are talking about Creation Care this fall. We are learning why we should be good stewards of the earth (because God said “It is good”) and what are actions we can take (e.g. don’t use plastic spoons!). The children have created their own big, paper mache earths and are making art structures out of recyclable materials.

STAFF & MINISTRIES

CELEBRATING SUCCESSES It’s time to celebrate our “Top Wins” as a church family over the past 60 days as we welcomed and embraced our new pastor at Faith. You, the family of Faith, not only supported William but you enthusiastically joined together with him to continue traditions and begin new endeavors to extend our reach into the community—and more importantly, this list is just the beginning. Please take a few minutes to reflect upon these activities, take pride in the work you have been a part of, and consider joining in with some of these projects in the future.

church and there are increased numbers of visitors including college students. New faces have joined or rejoined the choir. Overall our Sunday morning attendance has increased to approximately 170 each week. Different people are making dinner for the Wednesday night meals. There is a new excitement and energy among members in the church.

PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

 Our full staff are back working together which

allows for opportunities for collaboration and creativity, but also allows staff members to fully focus on their individual ministries.  William has met with the JOY group where they explored the unique strengths and challenges of Faith; furthermore, William and Dale have visited several of our members who are shut-in or hospitalized.  There has been continued success with our current ministries in the youth and children’s programs with good attendance and energy.  The quilt ministry and backpack ministry continue to provide support and care to those in need.

WORSHIP  A worship team has been developed to

enrich our worship services with new ideas.  Our worship services continue to portray a diverse array of voices.  Parts of worship are highlighted and explained in the service or bulletin.  Our music in worship continues to showcase a variety of talents and gifts.

connecting to different church groups in meaningful ways has flourished through our focus on the Angela Project. Many members at Faith attended the worship service for the Angela Project. A partnership with Club David has been established which provides an opportunity to build relationships in the community. The reading camp with Southern Elementary School continues to thrive. William has been invited to preach at a revival at the Ed Davis Learning Center involving the Boston neighborhood in town.

These “Top Wins” were identified by a new Transition Team established by the Pastor Search Committee to support William in his first year at Faith. Transition Team members are Hollis Dudgeon, Kathy Fraley, Regan Lookadoo, William Reilly, Jonathan Sands Wise, & Eric Shaffer. If you have “Top Wins” that are not listed above, please share them with the Transition Team.

YOUTH

JOY NEWS

We’ve had a great start to our fall semester in September! We decorated Georgetown Middle School for Kindness Week and started our small groups. We had a great Middle School Retreat where we talked about how meeting Jesus changes us and calls us to shine the light of Christ in the world.

Crisp air, bright colors, hot donuts—-it must be October! Enjoy a delicious meal and great fellowship at our senior adult lunch on Monday, October 21, at 11 a.m. in the RA. Then on Friday, October 25, we will take a scenic drive to Paris to the historic Cane Ridge Meeting House, Kentucky's largest one-room log church building, followed by lunch at one of the local restaurants. We’ll leave from the church at 9 a.m. Get more information about Cane Ridge and sign up on the JOY bulletin board. Our to-do list this month: wait patiently, have faith, pray, think of others, trust in God, give thanks. —Dale

FACILITY UPDATES Small groups continue in October with a break on October 6 for Fall Break. Our high schoolers will meet together on Saturday, October 26, at 9:15 a.m. and head to Wild Thyme in Lexington for a cooking challenge and brunch. Look for information in the coming weeks about a joint project with Georgetown Baptist and Focus Wesleyan. Sign up now for the High School Fall Retreat, November 8-10! The cost is $75. We’ll be staying near Nancy, KY, and will be spending the weekend experiencing God in creation and taking time to renew our minds and bodies.

It’s time to sign up for Passport 2020! We will head to Greensboro, NC, for Passport Choices on July 12-17. Please contact Sharon to sign up and pay your $75 deposit. The total cost will be determined by fundraising projects.

At the business meeting, we approved the trustees' proposal to begin several buildingrelated projects. In the month since then, they have already accomplished several items on their list. Anyone who has been to church in the last few weeks surely has noticed the newly sealed and painted parking lots that look awesome. Noticeably visible is also the freshly power washed gym exterior and new wood chips for the playground. They have also completed most of the much-needed door and window replacement projects. A lot of progress has also been made on the youth room remodel including fresh paint and new carpet. Furniture is being ordered to complete the room, and it should be completely refurbished soon. Next on the schedule is redoing the audio and projection system in the RA. Trustees are currently soliciting bids and considering options. The work the trustees have accomplished since the business meeting is incredible. Thank you for your diligent work on all these projects!

Quarterly Business Meeting & Potluck: Sunday, November 17 Make plans to attend our next quarterly business meeting and potluck immediately following worship. This is a particularly important meeting as we will be voting on the 2020 budget.

WORDS FROM WILLIAM In my role as pastor I have the opportunity to hear stories and testimonies that provide a glimpse of how Faith Baptist is a family of faith sharing God's love in a spirit of hope. As the members of Faith Baptist who are actually sharing that love and spreading that hope I figured it was only right that you hear them as well. The following are some of the things I have heard in the past month. A gentleman told me that even though he could not hear the words spoken in worship (we've been able to somewhat remedy that) it didn't matter because he could feel the presence of God. He knows God is in worship with us so he doesn’t need to hear the exact words. A reading camp volunteer told me that reading camp was the most meaningful part of their week. The volunteer knows that reading camp is transformational for the student, but it also happens to be transforming their life as well. A guest shared about Wednesday yoga, "I experienced true healing and restoration. I can't wait for next Wednesday." We referred a man to Transform Scott County for employment assistance. After his meeting with them, he came back to the church because he wanted to share how excited he was about it. He said, "I am so excited I just had to tell somebody. I don't know many people, but I know y'all." Someone connected to our church was given a cookie bouquet after a hard day and said, "I am going to cry. This is the nicest thing ever. I don't think I would have made it through today without your love and encouragement." We truly are a family of faith sharing God's love in a spirit of hope and Georgetown is better because of it. Thank you for the way that you love God and love your neighbor. It is a pleasure to serve as your pastor and hear these wonderful stories.

MINISTRY PARTNER EVENT We will have a Faith table for the Transform Scott County Banquet on Tuesday, October 15, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person and proceeds go to support the ministry of TSC. Please let William know if you would like a spot. If we have more than eight, we will secure another table. Thank you for supporting our partners in ministry.

ANGELA PROJECT MEETING The next meeting on racial reconciliation is on Tuesday, October 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford Christian Church (2785 Oxford Village Lane). All are welcome.

ED DAVIS REVIVAL At 6 p.m. on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5, there will be a community revival at Ed Davis Learning Center. William will preach on Friday. Ed Maynard will preach on Saturday.
