CINEMA JA N UA RY 2017
BO’NESS
CINEMA WITH WARM WELCO “As we step into the new year, the Academy Awards will soon be upon us – the glamorous highlight of the film calendar (after HippFest of course), when the great and the good vote on whose excellence should be rewarded with a small gold statuette and the peerless kudos of being an Oscar-winner. During the so-called ‘Oscar corridor’ – the five weeks or so between the day the nominations are announced and the Awards ceremony itself – excitement builds around the key nominees’ films, and you can see one of the most hotly tipped titles: ‘La La Land’, here at the Hippodrome at the end of this month. This musical love story, set in L.A., pays tribute to the glory of Hollywood and has already won the hearts of audiences and critics across the world. If you’re still trying to make sense of political developments Stateside you might want to take a look at Anthony Baxter’s follow-up to ‘You’ve Been Trumped’… an account of Donald Trump’s on-going battle with Aberdeenshire residents over a golf course. The film extrapolates a vision of what the U.S. could look like under Trump. Apparently this is the film Trump doesn’t want you to see… all the more reason to check it out for yourself! This month’s special event is your chance to journey back to a time when travelling by rail was comfortable, punctual and even a tad elegant! Join our special guest, film curator and transport film specialist Steven Foxon who will be introducing the sparkling programme of archive treasures on 28th January. We look forward to welcoming you soon.” Alison Strauss, Arts Development Officer (Film and Media)
