Netflix’s Free Reign Star Jaylen Barron Discusses New Firsts in Her New Series Star of Netflix’s Free Reign Jaylen Barron has become the first American person of color to play the lead in a Netflix children’s original series. “Free Reign a coming of age story about a 16yr old American girl who goes to England for the summer with her mom and sister. The adventures that follow her and her new-found love Raven, black beauty of a horse, who changes her life forever are shared with new friends, foes and the cute boys of course.”

B

arron describes landing the role as her biggest accomplishment. “I am honored to have been given such a role and to be an inspiration to so many others. I’ve also been lucky enough to be featured in Netflix’s StrongBlack Leads Instagram in acknowledgment of my role.” Her list of inspirations also include strong black leads such as Halle Berry, Viola Davis, and Lupita Nyong’o, that the actress has looked up to ever since she was a little girl. Barron began her career in the entertainment industry as a model for the brand JUSTICE, “an opportunity and a side of the business I wanted to explore,” and has starred in multiple television series such as See Dad Runand Shameless, and two Disney hit series Good Luck Charlie andShake It Up. As a young actress, she has learned to “have patience and that everything happens for a reason. So, even though sometimes you might be feeling a little bit down on certain days, literally everything happens for a reason,” and if there’s any advice she could give to her younger self when pursuing her career, Barron states she wishes “to not be so in my head.” Out of all of the characters she’s played, Barron can’t choose just one that has been her favorite. “I don’t have a favorite, they each have taught me so much. Each character has taught me a new perspective and challenged me to grow as an actress. I get a lot of feedback sometimes for not acting like a certain character I play but that’s what makes being an actress so much fun! I can be so diverse in everyone I play.” All of these accomplishments before the age of 20 doesn’t come without a bit of struggle. But as a 20 year old herself, Jaylen doesn’t find it too difficult to fall into the 16 year old character. “In all honesty, there aren’t too many difficulties. It wasn’t long ago I was 16. I feel like Zoe’s outspoken and can be a little sassy, so I feel like that’s how I can relate to her. But her and I are really different in a lot of ways —I think that’s why I like to play her. Because she can be very sweet —you know, when she needs to speak up for something, she’ll be like, ‘You know what? I’ll hold my tongue right now.’ And then she’ll go about it the right way. But with me? That may not always be the case.” And at the end of the day, it can sometimes be hard for the young actress to take a step back and relax. “The hardest part for me is juggling free time with my friends and family who I am very close with,” Barron states, “I’m lowkey a homebody and love to spend my free time with my dogs, snacks and tv, preferably with a good documentary, on the couch.” But when she’s faced with setbacks, she says that they only make her stronger and give her the opportunity to strive to do better. Jaylen Barron’s main focus is her role in Free Reign, but by following her on social media, you can get updates on future projects. WAGS Miami Stars

Ashley and Darnell

Talk Overcoming Haters and How to be a Boss Mom

A

shley and Nicole might be talked about as cast members of E! Network’s hit series WAGS Miami, but the reality show stars have made their own name for themselves over the past few years. After graduating from prestigious universities and earning their degrees, the two dove into making a life for themselves on their own. Ashley graduated from the Tuskegee University with a degree in animal science, and although she does not plan on furthering her veterinary degree, she doesn’t deny her love for animals and wants to get more involved with community shelters. Darnell is looking forward to putting her degree towards something she loves, too. “I still keep my skills sharp andwrite very often. I’m really interested in writing a cookbook and adding some stories from my childhood.” The pair have also taken a turn from their passions and have turned other interests into careers. Ashley started a successful hair care line called Ashè Hair Care. “I wanted to bring hair care back to the basics and focus more on the essential ingredients that ALL hair types need, in hopes of making healthy hair goals less stressful and more attainable for everyone.” On the other hand, Darnell is pursuing a career in acting. Ashley and Darnell became best friends through mutual friends when both of their boyfriends were playing for the Miami Dolphins at the time, but the pair didn’t connect instantly like most BFFs do. “I was doing my best to fit in and make new friends with the players wives/gfs but Darnell was so turned off,” Ashley joked. But they

bonded and formed a relationship that would soon lead them to being selected for WAGS Miami. They had a few fallouts on the show, but Darnell describes their friendship as one “where we can cuss each other out and keep it pushing.” And when WAGS Miami got cancelled, Ashley and Darnell decided on ANOTHER boss career move that felt like the “right step”: YouTube. Fans of the show wanted to see more of the pair, and Ashley explained that this was because “our viewers see themselves in the both of us and connected with us on such a personal level because unlike most reality TV, we were so raw with our emotion and true to who we were in every situation.” On top of theses amazing successes, they’re both raising children as well! The boss moms told us a few secrets on how they manage such busy schedules and growing careers while running after their kids. “With a lot of prayer and patience lol! When you have a busy schedule like ours, you don’t even think about it...you just do it” (Darnell). Ashley added that balancing motherhood and her career can sometimes be a constant battle, but she leans on her husband when life gets a little busy. But an abundance of success can also come with struggles and dealing with haters. Ashley elaborated on what she does to overcome them, usually ignoring them because her followers end up taking up for her. And while haters think they’ve affected Darnell, she proves them wrong while also giving the “best clap backs” says Ashley. “I literally have a mute button. I can read a negative comment, block them and go on about my day like nothing happened” (Darnell). Both Ashley and Darnell have proven that you can be a mom while also managing a booming career, and wishes to give readers advice. Ashley’s advice includes not being so hard on yourself, and to

never be too prideful to ask for help. “I’m so blessed to have accomplished so much and it really proves that you can’t put a cap on what God has for you. You just gotta be ready to go when he says go.” Darnell adds that you might be filled with stress and pain, but to keep pushing and never look back! Arrow Actress Emily Bett Rickards Talks On Screen Chemistry and Her Acting Career

I

f you would’ve asked Emily Bett Rickards if she was looking forward to filming her seventh season of Arrowsix years ago, you’d probably elicit a laugh from the young actress. She was originally supposed to be a one episode guest star, but soon landed a role as a recurring character. “On my first day of shooting we completed the two scenes of episode 3 season 1 and that was supposed to be it... Little did I know I would get called a week later to do another episode and then another and another continuing up until season 2 where Felicity would be made an integral part of the show. I was ecstatic, mind boggled, and excited.” Emily’s had her heart set on her career choice since a young age and describes it as a natural experience. “I always loved stories and storytelling... that didn’t have an occupational label at a young age but when I discovered that acting could be that path it was a natural progression.” She grew up training at Vancouver Film School and describes the experience as “a beginners crash course in the world I was about to dive into. I met my numero uno mentor there Andrew McIlroy -the first time I was in his class I knew I was finally in the place I was supposed to be.” When asked if she could do anything other than acting, Emily lightheartedly joked she’d “probably go to the pound and do dramatic readings of Air Budto the dogs.” In her extra time she likes to sing as well, but is “not sure where that will lead.”The talented actress has been nominated for multiple awards for her work, and you may most likely know her from her role as Felicity in CW’s Arrow. The series’ seventh season premiered October 10, 2018, and Emily’s excited to continue to portray a character that’s very similar to her. “She’s very driven like I am. She gets frustrated when what she really poured her energy into doesn’t work. She’s much more organized

than I am, though.” And her on screen chemistry with fellow cast member Stephen Amell doesn’t go by unnoticed, even going as far as being nominated for multiple awards together such as Choice TV Ship and twice as Choice TV Lip lock at the Teen Choice Awards. Emily describes their chemistry as “natural” and that they “were meant to be friends,” and she’s very close with the rest of her cast as well. “We are tight knit over here -miss one another when story lines take us apart.” Emily has been in the industry nearly all of her life, yet a new character she’s recently portrayed has been her favorite to date. “Recently finished a production of REBORNING written by play writer Zayd Dohrn. The character I played, Kelly, is very special to me. Another fun lady I played years ago was Genevieve Kreme in the web series Paranormal Solutions Inc. ... where she at? would love to bring her back.” In the near future, you can expect to see Emily in “more theatre and dabbling into some behind the camera work,” and a new indie film she’s been working on has also made its way onto the screen. “An indie film FUNNY STORY I did is making the festival rounds right now and I’m so thrilled, honoured and appreciative at the response it is getting.” As for as Arrow’s concerned, Emily tells readers they can expect “something different” from the new season. To see more of Emily, be sure to watch Arrowat 8/7c on The CW Television Network. To connect with Emily, follow her socials @emilybett Written by Amya Mitchell

Mollee Gray

Discusses Her Start in High School Musical & Her New Film A Night to Remember!

Actress and dancer Mollee Gray is no stranger to the stage, and she proves that in her new feature film A Night to Regret. Although her first role was No Strings Attached at the age of 18, the entertainer got her start dancing and acting in Disney’s blockbuster trilogy High School Musical, and she gives the movies credit to starting her career. “I experienced first hand being onset with one of the greatest directors for my first major job! I had no other choice but to know the discipline and protocol for being onset. It was the most magical few years of my life! Kenny Ortega got me my very first agent and my manager, Beverly Strong, discovered me on that set. So absolutely, High School Musical changed my life!” Mollee’s always loved performing, whether it be dancing or acting, but her interests didn’t stop just there. “I have absolutely loved to perform since I was three, and still do to this day, so it was always a dream of mine! I remember sitting at my dad’s apartment in Utah, when I was younger, searching on Google, “TV show auditions near me,’” but I also was wanting to be a lawyer. I had a dream of going to NYU or Harvard and pursuing a career in the justice field! As I think about where I am now, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else for the rest of my life. I absolutely love creating art in any way possible... It’s my passion!”Mollee’s recent film, A Night to Remember, is much darker than her roles in the past, the plot consisting of a stalker and how he’d stop at nothing to have the character to himself. But in spite of the dark story, Mollee finds it easy to relate to her character, and was attracted to the role because of her character’s story. “Crazy enough, Chelsea was going to school for law but her passion was film making! I thought that was incredibly ironic, and knew it was a “meant to be project.” I am similar to Chelsea because she is a person to go after her dreams, no matter what it takes.” She also states that even though her life isn’t as traumatic as Chelsea’s, she’s the character that she relates to the most. Mollee’s constantly preparing to take on new roles, but her wife, Jeka, always knows how to disperse the tension and add a bit of fun. “We dance together all the time, and it’s awesome! It’s great to do something you love with the person you love the most. We are actually currently starting to create more content together because we are starting a YouTube page, which is going to be so fun! Jeka helps me with my prep for auditions! She will run lines with me until I feel completely comfortable.” Recent projects for Mollee includes The Favorite, released September 7th, and the actress hopes to one day be featured in a Marvel film. “I would love to play a Marvel or DC character. I feel like my background in dance and gymnastics would come in handy with such an action packed film!” Her advice for anyone pursuing a career in entertaining is to remember why you started. “Don’t forget how much you love what you do, especially when the struggle feels overwhelming. Believe in yourself more than anyone else can believe in you! My biggest achievement is not giving up! A lot of us tend to share all of the positives so people don’t understand the hard work. Even though I have incredible accomplishments, I have been rejected as well. So I am proud of myself for continuing to push beyond my limits, and always believe in myself.” To see Mollee’s plans for the future, you can connect with her on her social media pages.
