Choosing a Tutor for your Child

By Kate Hilpern

Primary School League Tables Explained

In the past, parents might employ a tutor, discreetly, to help their child keep up at school. Now tutoring is higher profile and focuses on making students more academically competitive – getting ahead, not just keeping up. So if your child needs a tutor, how do you choose one?

Improving your Child’s Working Memory

Children use working memory all the time: to remember what they read in the previous paragraph of a book, when doing mental maths and to follow directions with lots of steps. The good news is that, if your child’s working memory seems poor, it can be improved with practice. By Annabel Gray

There are many factors to consider when choosing a school for your child – often including how well the school is performing. A useful tool to reference is the school annual league tables. Unfortunately though, these can sometimes seem a little complicated.

Cultivating happiness at Yateley Manor School

For many parents, raising happy children is a key goal and signifies parenting success. However, too often we think happiness is about those fleeting moments of getting what we want. Lasting happiness is actually much more complicated, but much more rewarding.

There are ways to teach children to develop happiness. Once survival, safety and basic comforts are assured, external circumstance does not affect our happiness levels much. Happiness depends on three habits to thrive: How we perceive our experiences; Certain actions that we take regularly; And character traits such as self-control, fairness, empathy, courage, leadership and honesty.

The old saying that laughter is the best medicine turns out to be true. The more we laugh, the happier we are. It actually changes our body chemistry. Schools should be happy places. Staff should also model strong relationships. Research shows that people who are happiest have more people in their lives, and deeper relationships with those people. Children should be taught

Virtual Open Morning Friday 27 November Register your place here that while relationships take effort, they are worth it.

A high quality education should place a child at the centre of their education. With an abundance of opportunities to develop character traits which will bolster a child’s confidence and allow them to find themselves, they will lead happy lives not only at school but into adulthood.

Yateley Manor are preparing children for successful adult lives. They know that, beyond the need to be as successful as they can be academically, children need to experience success and immerse themselves in opportunities which will develop them as a person. They want children to be happy too.
