Wildcat kittens born at The British Wildlife Centre
The Scottish Wildcat is Britain’s last remaining wildcat species and one of the UK’s rarest species. The fierce and independent Scottish wildcat is the only wild animal to be totally untameable, even if hand-reared from a kitten. Weight for weight this super-predator is the most aggressive cat species in the world, earning it the welldeserved nickname, ‘Highland Tiger’.

The British Wildlife Centre is part of a conservation programme to try and save these beautiful mammals from extinction. It’s been a wonderful year at the Centre for new-borns; wildcat mums, Kendra and Hilda have both given birth to a litter of two kittens. Hilda is a first-time mum and she’s done a wonderful job, the kittens are thriving and growing fast. Wildcat kittens are born with gorgeous bright blue eyes which slowly turn green as they grow older. Of course, the cute kittens been a huge hit with visitors over the summer! www.britishwildlifecentre.co.uk
Playtime with Dad May Improve Self-control
Children whose fathers make time to play with them from a very young age may find it easier to control their behaviour and emotions as they grow up, according to new research. The study carried out by Cambridge University and the LEGO Foundation looked at how mothers and fathers play with children ages 0 to 3 and how it affects child development. Although there are similarities, it found that fathers tend to engage in more physical play like tickling, chasing, and piggy-back rides, which researchers claim appears to help children to learn to control their feelings.
Professor Ramchandani, one of the authors of the study, said: “Physical play creates fun, exciting situations in which children have to apply self-regulation. You might have to control your strength, learn when things have gone too far – or maybe your father steps on your toe by accident and you feel cross.”
