Fun filled sessions of singing and music for both parents and children under 5 years. As a professional singer and children’s entertainer, Snow White loves to sing and perform with the children and parents. Successful stage/TV actor and entertainer Peter Robertson and his talented team have continually dazzled, surprised and amazed hosts and guests in all sorts of ways.

www.netbuddy.org.uk is a website for parents and carers of people with learning disabilities, which offers hundreds of simple, yet ingenious solutions to everyday issues – from bed wetting to challenging behaviour. The tips are contributed daily by other parents, carers, teachers and therapists, and organised by subject. There’s also an interactive forum for people to solve specific practical issues. The site’s creator, Deborah Gundle, herself has a son with profound learning disabilities. “When Zach was small, I spent so much time and energy solving daily problems, and I knew other people were doing the same,” she said. “I set up www.netbuddy.org.uk so we didn’t need to keep re-inventing the wheel.”

The Guildford Youth Theatre are very excited to be staging Les Miserables School Edition and the last few places remain. Places are capped to ensure that every participant receives a lead role. 1. Control your urges to stock up and spend madly by planning for the Christmas season. Remember most shops will be open apart from that one day.

2. Remember portion size - if you are serving a starter, main course and dessert, portions should be smaller than your everyday one course meal. It would be impossible to eat vast quantities and much will be wasted.

3. Choose the food your family is likely to eat. It is pointless offering the traditional

Brussels sprouts and red cabbage if it will not be eaten. It makes more sense to choose popular vegetables and cook them in a slightly different way such as panfried with garlic and bacon. pies are often on promotion, which encourage us to stock up and buy more than we need. We all have them lingering in our cupboard past Christmas time. It makes sense to have some pastry in the freezer and mincemeat in a jar and make homemade mince pies if you feel you might run out!

5. Freeze the carcass of the turkey if you feel that making stock involves too much

work and make it at a later date. It is wonderful for flavouring soups and risottos.

Even as I was composing this article in my head it occurred to me, did we have fun today? Did I make them laugh at all today? There was dinner to cook, laundry to fold, floors to be swept, homework to be done, but was there any fun? The beauty of it is that it’s so simple to have fun together, to laugh together. I once read somewhere about a woman who made it all very clear for me, she said it wasn’t about having quality time together with a specific pre-planned activity involving money or toys. Rather, making the time together that we have everyday, at the dinner table, getting dressed, on the way to school, making these times fun and enjoyable. I suppose you could say enjoying the journey instead of focusing on the destination.

Living a simple life, in search of truth and beauty, these are my goals. The reason why I have these goals is ...simple. I want us to enjoy our lives together. We can do this by having fun, simple fun. We do have fun, but sometimes I’m so caught up in my daily tasks that I forget this very simple and life-affirming principle. When we dance around like crazy people, when we tickle and tumble and blow raspberries on little tummies, when we play ‘can’t catch me!’ or hide and seek or when we play snap and cheat outrageously, this is fun, this is me connecting with my children, this is life. In his book, ‘The Hurried Child’, David Elkind writes about the pressures put on children in the modern world, to perform at school, to be engaged in several extra-curricular activities. Indeed, these things are important, but so is the need for children to have fun and play. He sums it up beautifully, “A playful childhood is the most basic right of childhood.” I want my children to have a fun and happy childhood, I want that 60
