Family and MWR Enjoy A Family Seoul Land Adventure! Seoul Land theme park is located in Gyeonggi-do just outside of Seoul at Seoul Grand Park. Seoul Land was Korea’s first theme park and opened in 1988 just before the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Seoul Land is just one of the many attractions available at Seoul Grand Park. Seoul Grand Park is a large entertainment complex nestled in the scenic natural surroundings of Mt. Cheonggyesan. In addition to the amusement park, Seoul Grand Park includes the Seoul National Zoo, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, a park and hiking trails and a botanical garden. As with most theme parks, there are the beautiful gardens, the souvenir shops and restaurants and snack shops every 25 meters. Food options includes; traditional Korean food, the burger restaurants, fried chicken, and a Turkish booth selling Kebabs and Gyro. Seoul Land is separated into 5 different sections World Plaza, Adventure Land, Fantasy Land, Tomorrow Land and Samcheon Land. Each section has its own unique characteristics and attractions. World Plaza offers the view of around the world with international structures and displays. Adventure Land hones in on the western cowboy theme and offers thrilling rides and games.

The kids will love Fantasy Land, which promises everyone’s dream will come true, is very cutesy and child size attractions. Tomorrow Land: Explore what the future holds for us with futuristic rides and attractions. Samchulli Land: takes you to the past with traditional Korean games and 3 big roller coasters, a bungee jump, free fall and a few other rides for thrill seekers. General entry to almost all rides is to the 100 cm or taller. Attractions not to be missed are the Double Loop Coaster and the 5D exhibition. Seoul Land’s website is very helpful for preplanning your trip prior to arrival. One page of the site is dedicated to recommending routes and rides to take for children, Families, couples and if the weather is rainy. The amusement park hosts seasonal festivals ranging in theme. The Water Festival is taking place until the end of August. The Water Festival’s main attraction is a stunt diving pirate show which features a water pistol battle, Water Wars, and a pirate ship. Yongsan Library Fun Facts Back to School 1. People move and change schools. This is one of the reasons curriculums are somewhat standardized, over 26% of elementary age kids change schools at least once, and 42% of 12-17 years old do. So, in order to fill in gaps, and make sure that you can switch schools without big holes in your education there are standard things taught each year. 2. 100 Percentage of public schools with Internet access. In 1995, the proportion was 50 percent. 3. 72% The percentage of U.S. residents enrolled in schools - from nursery schools to colleges. 4. Today, the largest high school in America is Morton High School in Berwyn-Cicero, Ill., a co-op with more than 8,000 students. Its East Campus alone has 6,000 students. 5. The largest college campus by enrollment is Ohio State University, which in 2008-2009 enrolled 53,715 students. 6. In the U.K., the term “public school” refers to a private academy. This seeming anomaly dates back to the Middle Ages when private charities started schools to provide education for the poor. 7. In California, about 45% of children enrolled in kindergarten through 12th speak a language other than English at home.

Children’s Biography and Reference books

8. 67% of kids like school. 9. (Not so) Fun Fact: 6% of kids age 6-11 repeat at least one grade in school. 11% of kids aged 12-17 repeat at least one grade of school. 10. This month, the Yongsan Library will have a special Back to School Display! The display an array of informative to help you get the best out of this school year.
